[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

I saw the movie. I think there might have been an OK film in there somewhere. But man, that editing. The worst I have ever seen. Did they literally just take clips at random and stitch them together? And some scenes were so jarringly cut short, remember that Joker + Harley scene with that other criminal? And that constant pop song cycling, when it didn't fit at all for most scenes!

I watched this again yesterday and it's still bad.

The Squad was activated immediately after Incubus showed up and destroyed that subway. The military people wanted the guy who aims good, a psycho girl with a baseball bat, a human crocodile, a guy who throws boomerangs, and fire dude to take this metahuman out. This wasn't supposed to be some black ops thing: they were meant to kill other metahumans. Now, when they actually get assembled, Waller tells them that they are meant to rescue HVT-1 and that's it. Side note: Waller says that she's the only person that matters in that city in front of her subordinates.

So, on one hand, we see that the military people want to use the Squad to kill metahumans, but then almost immediately after that, Waller says another thing. The audience is given two different objectives from two different groups and it's never really acknowledged. It's confusing.

When Flag rescues Waller in the office building and right before she murders her team, she tells Flag that he wouldn't have made it that far without their help, but the movie shows it differently. Up until then, the Squad isn't doing anything that the military couldn't. Harley is killing those putties with her baseball bat. Boomerang is kicking them and slicing them with his boomerangs. Waller even says that those putties can take a headshot and keep going, but we see those putties get headshot and die. Flag does it to one and that's the basis of Deadshot's big action moment. The first time a helicopter got shot down, we don't see who did it, but I think it's safe to assume that the putties did it. The putties are shown to be using guns. What's stupid is that not all of them do so we can still get some melee action. Speaking of the action, it's bland and forgettable.

Now that I've seen the Joker again, I definitely don't like him. He's still superfluous to the movie and Leto's performance seems like he's took Ledger's performance and turned it up a notch. I still think that the Suicide Squad is pretty much unnecessary given the threat. The main villains are defeated with bombs. They needed a covert, black-ops type of thing for this group, not a powerful witch.

I did miss some things on my first go, namely the reason why the putties were taking Flag. It's because the Enchantress was afraid of him. Why they don't kill him instead of trying to kidnap him, I don't know. Again, what the people say and what we see is vastly different. I like Diablo a lot more. I didn't pick up that the house he walked out of in his introduction is the house he burned his family in. Still, him calling the Squad his family is too much of a stretch. It was not earned at all. Katana is still useless and her last minute backstory was hilarious. Boomerang coming back (because he's a boomerang) was completely unmotivated and unacknowledged.

When the Enchantress shows the Squad what they really want, Deadshot really wants to kill Batman. That doesn't really fit his arc. He wants to be with his daughter and wants her to know that he's not a piece of shit. That's the whole reason why he wants to continue through with the mission, but what he really wants is to kill Batman? Come on.

i just stopped reading after the first paragraph, NO, THEY DIDNT SEND THE SQUAD TO TAKE OUT ENCHANTRESS

they went to rescue waller, thats was their mission. after incubus took down the chooper where waller was the squad find out about enchantress and then decided to took her down.

Why would you watch it again if you didn't like it the first time?!
Because I hate myself.

The military Argus dudes immediately activate Task Force X once Incubus shows up. They were going to send them to deal with Incubus.

so? their mission was to rescue waller

It sends a confusing message to the audience. There were many in this thread and elsewhere confused as to whether the squad was meant to stop Incubus/Enchantress or just save Waller and it turns out to be both and neither.

Like the Argus dudes didn't say: "Waller's trapped in that city, we need the squad to go save her." Instead, they said, "Hey, there's a metahuman terrorizing the city, send the squad after them." And then we get Waller saying, "No, come save me."

Yes but I think due to editing we were to believe that they were going after Enchantress and Incubus.
I totally remember that scene where the government people were watching Enchantress make her trash circle in the sky and they called Waller to activate Task Force X.

that's the twist, it seems that waller is commanding the mission from a safe place but it turns out she is in the middle of the mess, and the argus guys know it, but since it's a twist, they dont openly said "send the squad to rescue waller"

i do think they messed up that bit, when they are briefing the squad, they are told they are going to retrieve HTV 1, and thats when deadshot says: and for those who dont talk good guy?, and waller instead of saying that "its a rescue mission" she just says: "this is the most important person, yada yada yada", so the message that the is a rescue mission got lost on the joke about not talking good guy

LOL, no, that's not in there to maintain the twist. They literally activate Task Force X because Midway city was under attack.

Nope. It immediately goes from Incubus destroying the subway to Argus activating Task Force X to Deadshot and Harley and the others getting outfitted with neck bombs.

what? no it doesnt, there is a scene where june and flagg are on the subway underneath incubus

edit: i think they activated task force x because they have enchantress on their side on that point, and after she escapes, then they send deadshot and the others to rescue waller

That comes AFTER Deadshot and all of them get the neck bombs.

EDIT for your edit: It literally goes from Incubus destroying the subway to Agus activating Task Force X to Dead shot and all of them getting neck boms and then some point after that, Enchantress escapes.

The other one landed behind them and everyone exited both helicopters normally.

Outside of that rope guy, nobody really died in this movie but a lot of people were considered dead briefly.

Outside of all those crashes, Harley was pretend shot and Enchantress died but was immediately reborn.

I think maybe Scott Eastwood permanently died after he set off a bomb in his own face, but they probably just cut his resurrection scene.
unless I'm missing something El Diablo died too

how could you forget el diablo ;-;

well they could switch the scenes.

incubus attack, they send enchantress to stop him, she escapes, then they send the belle reve people to rescue waller

because as far as i remember, enchantress was the whole point of task force x, she would have be the big guns, but she escaped and they were left with the leftovers

incubus attack, they send enchantress to stop him, she escapes, then they send the belle reve people to rescue waller

If they did it like that, it would have been better. Just move the scenes around and it would have been more coherent.

i do think Enchantress was the point of Task Force X, because even at the dinner at the beginning they mock Waller because she wants to use people that arent really that powerful to face meta human threats, and thats when she talks about Enchantress, a really powerful meta-human, i guess plans didnt go according to her desires

This movie was pretty sexist, right? Misogynist, maybe? A bit racist on top of all that?

Rope Guy punched a woman in the face, said, 'She had a mouth' as an excuse and I think I was supposed to laugh. Batman knocks Harley out with a punch to the face for another laugh.

Everyone called Harley a "girl" despite her having to have been almost 30 or older.

Deadshot told Flagg to smack his girl on the ass to get her back in line or something?

Quinn asked Waller if she was the devil when all she had done was walk into the room.

El Diablo was a complete stereotype from beginning to end and I think his introduction was a guard telling him to "put down the burrito".

I'm sure there were more instances.

sexist would have been not punched them because they are women

No one cared that Boomerang punched a guy

I don't think you were supposed to laugh when Slipknot punched the woman. Also, if I remember correctly he is a rapist. (Which was not made into this cut) So this was the very least expected from him.

As for Batman, I mean what else would you have done in that situation? I admit I laughed at that part though.

If Slipknot punched a guy for having a mouth, it would be okay?
sexist would have been not punched them because they are women

heh. that feels like a dodge.

*shrug* My theater laughed.

Oh it does

Oh, ok.

I can't tell if this post is suppose to be taken seriously or not

Does that matter?

Yes, I would think so. Within the context that thecouncil brought up I think it does. Boomerang jumped out and started flaying, he's a crazy dude, he punched anyone close.
Rope guy punched a women cause "she had a mouth", the two are not comparable.

If one of the people Boomerang punched was a women, I don't think it would've even been brought up, I at least wouldn't have thought about it twice, but rope guys punch was made for comedic effect, with the butt of the joke being "women talked, she got smacked". And as with thecouncil, people also laughed at my theater.
I'd say it would be pretty disingenuous to suggest it was not the purpose of the filmmakers to make it off as a "joke".

...They're bad guys.

And thecouncil also had a problem with Batman punching Harley.

I'm not saying rope guy is a sexist and he should be ashamed. He's a fucking dick, he's a bad guy, we know he's a shit person, not my point.
I'm agreeing with thecouncil on this matter, that it was played of as a part the audience should laugh at, by the filmmakers with "she had a mouth". The other points, I did not mentioned so I will not defend those.
I particularly did not see the major issue with Bats punching Harley in that segment, same as I mentioned earlier I wouldn't have had a problem with Boomerang if one of the guards he punched was a women, a guard is a guard, nothing sexist about it.

The answer is no.

Eh. The world keeps on turning, I guess.

...They're bad guys.

I had a lot less of a problem with the Harley situation given that she was actively trying to stab Batman. I just thought it was kinda funny that she too was directly punched in the face for a laugh.

Paganmoon pretty much covered the problem with it though.
