Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

the visuals are below expectations... and by quite a margin i would say... performance also looks kinda all over the place, pop in, characters animation/control looks floaty... i dont know... had very high hopes but the demos we have seen and the footage at hand... it just doesnt cut it. Lets see what the delay is going to be about.

Should have given this kid the leading role. Swagger is off the charts.

Few notes:

Gladio's VA is horrendus

Music sounds pretty damn great.

MULTIPLE BATTLE TRACKS!

Customization actually looks pretty fun

Battle dialogue is fine.

Cutscenes surrounding finding out about the invasion still lack gravitas.

Battle system looks fun.

I'm not expecting anything earth shattering, but it should be a good time.

My thoughts exactly. The voice...fits Gladiolus...but the delivery of the lines just doesnt work.

Yep,totally switching to japanese voices with english subs.
Old noct looks great and he is the spitting image of his father
(Plot twist: noct is his own father)
.
Combat looks like ass imo but the rest looks great, especially the return of hunt marks.
Also,i'm shipping noct and Iris so bad now.

Her anime girl mannerisms were so awkward in contrast with her voice. It's the XV equivalent of this:

240

I feel like everything up until the repair shop could have gone a lot smoother if it were just a CG cutscene. No awkward loading screen, no awkward, disjointed dialog during the boring car pushing, more change for interesting camera angles and shots, Stand By Me would sound not as out-of-place, we could have gotten some good, pretty zoom-ins on faces to introduce the main cast, etc.

But i feel like we're not supposed to like CG/cutscenes anymore. :/

Agree with you on this one. I was thinking XIII sort of did that and didn't turn out that great, but it was actually multiple cutscenes interrupting the game every other minute. XV is kind of making the same mistake here.

ETA: bring back the batman voice. I was always a fan of batman voice. Why did you listen to the haters SE,pls.

I'm still really shocked at the quality of both the voice-acting and the script overall, especially on a mainline FF. That being said, there are moments where it flows really well (like Prompto counting down with the door), so it kind of awkwardly stood out from the rest. Noctis does sound a lot better than he did, but it's still not great. I knew that FFXIII had some narmy dialogue, but the voice-work was still really solid from the whole cast. Cor sounded fine, though, his voice is really familiar. (It's not Matthew Mercer, is it. Thanks to McCree, I'm currently hearing Mercer in everyone. I think it's High Noon paranoia.) Iris' mo-cap was dreadful, and she definitely has the most Kingdom Hearts-esque Nomura design of the lot, but her voice was also pretty good.

Complaints aside, there is some fantastic creature design, some of the strongest from the whole series. It's amazing to see older FF series reimagined so beautifully. I love some of the other outfits for the gang, too, I don't think I'll be keeping them in their default outfits. I was also pleasantly surprised to see another villain character showing up in the Cor scene that I don't think had been previously announced? A problem XIII had was a completely lack of supporting cast, especially for the antagonists. XV feels a bit more like VII in that regard.

1 minute in. This video confirms the shitty 4chan spoilers, doesn't it? :/

This is problematic.

And
you-know-who killing you-know-who is going to be controversial as hell. You can't flippantly do that kinda stuff in 2016 without ticking off hundreds of bloggers.

Ha, yep. I swore out lout when I saw Older!Noctis and Ifrit, 'cause, shit, those 4chan spoilers. Yeah, them killing off that character was my big concern/annoyance, too, especially considering the representation of women in XV isn't great at is.

I still can't understand what triggers party attacks, it all seems so messy :/
People trashed Ep. Duscae yellow circles, but at least that way i understood what i was doing.

Also the fact that we can't customize the party AI and that they only have 1 skill at a time it's massively dissappointing.

Exactly how I feel. Except I'm pretty sure the story is gonna be real cringy. But I've been ignoring FF stories since 8.

when she started flailing around

My exact reaction!

I feel like I've done nothing but criticize this one ugly aspect plaguing both Kingsglaive and the game itself, but it's just that off-putting. I'm definitely taking advantage of the Japanese voice track if the game has it, but I doubt it'll synchronize everything perfectly. I am prepared for many, many cringe seizures.

This is the first time I'm hearing this. What I saw on video looked pretty good to me, but this does sound disappointing. With the addition of the freeze mode whatchamacallit, I was getting ready for Tale's-style combat with a handful of different AI strategies. I hope this makes up for smoother, more intuitive combat, I guess we'll see.

Stand by Me in a FF game?
That groans at the beginning when they were in flames...
The tough guys voice and their recording sounds so off when they were talking around the car. It doesn't fit in to the environment.
Wtf is this game. this is not a FF anymore lol.

As some other member said in an earlier post FFXV feels like prentending to be a western game but fails in every way.

What is it called when the hair texture has the effect of looking like you're seeing it through uh.. IDK like a chain linked fence? I noticed every FF since FF13 has done that. I never see it in other games, and it's really offputting.

This is a Final Fantasy game in pretty much every way.

Blindside attacks + proximity to Noctis trigger them.

About 38 minutes into the video, really liking what I've seen so far with a few complaints. Looking forward to really getting in there and learning the battle system.

Oh, and the music is amazing too. At least there will be one aspect of this game that will be universally loved.

Just started watching it and I'm just gonna throw it out there after seeing the opening:

The FFXV opening sequence (both the battle and car pushing) might be the weakest of the mainline games in the entire series, yes including the 2D ones.

FF games start with a boss battle are II, IX and XIII. From the story telling perspective, all three games provided *context* of the enemy and gave us a reason to fight: In II Emperor burnt down our village, in IX the dragon head man attacked us first so we fought back, and in XIII we escaped the train so the robot was hunting us down. Now we have XV, the thing just sits there, we walk up and then start to attack. Let me just ask this: WHY??

From the game design aspect of the "starting the game with a boss battle" idea, besides visually showing off the battle system,it serves as a *TUTORIAL*. II, IX and XIII all let us learn by going through the battle. In XV, we walk up, control for 2 sec (No UI) , cutscene, flash back to car pushing. What's the takeaway? Certainly no tutorial to me.

Then we have the car pushing. It is supposed to be a sequence to introduce the characters. As not all of the players would have watched the CGI movie before playing the game, it is our first time properly seeing these characters (technically the second time but the guys in the fighting sequence all look different. And it was too short and with all the flashy visual effects, at least I didn't have enough time to register those guys). They talked a bit and then started to push the car. Then the effing EMOTIONAL theme song kicked in, supposedly to highlight the bond between the four. BUT, as a player, without any proper character introduction or development or buildup, WHY THE HELL SHOULD WE CARE??? I couldn't help but LOL while watching.....

So, unless there are parts they didn't show us, from both story telling and game design aspects, the opening of XV is weak and pointless.

Just watched.

Cons:

something seemed a little off with some of the textures or loading. Looked great in places and odd in others (e.g., chocobo race, when first pulling into Lestallum).

hard to get a good sense of game flow given the choppy excerpting, but it seems a bit macguffiny in what they've shown.

Pros:

-Music is great
-Bestiary is awesome -- loved that Zu encounter
-Caves/tombs look varied and great
-Battle system looks like a lot of fun w/ the full slate of party interaction and magic
-New weapons! Loved the FF6 Edgar callouts w/ Prompto's bioblaster and autocrossbow and Noct's chainsaw attack. Also, seems there will be a lot of variety in phantom weapons and we get to equip them all
-Engine weapons are their own category too, curious to see more about those.
-Cor is a badass, love his sword style
-Side quests seem varied
-Maybe most importantly from my perspective, the character interaction was mostly pretty good. Could really get a sense of the guys' dynamic with each other and didn't seem super forced. Liked the faux date w/ Iris too, suggests a light touch w/ lots of varied character-centered events.

Overall, I'm pleased. Seems like it really could deliver an epic adventure w/ engaging systems.

Visually it's certainly spotty in certain ways w/ what they showed here. But that's not all that important to me.

Monster design and music are off the charts. Gameplay looks pretty varied, more so than some of the earlier games. Wait mode seems to provide that more tactical edge I was hoping for.
Graphics and performance need a lot of work. I would be willing to wait till 2017 for a graphical touch up and solid 30fps. Hoping a lot of these cutscenes were spliced together, because plot flow seemed pretty off.
Excited to play the finished product. Hoping they can get a lot done in two months visually, for sure.

yall are right i think this Final Fantasy series that features characters like Cloud, a dude with spiky hair and a 10-foot sword, is starting to get out of touch
