highly improbable at this point. but not impossible

truman was considered toast in '48. his opponent hardly even campaigned everybody thought he was so fucked. but yeah i don't think there's ever been a "comeback" of the magnitude trump would need

If I remember pollsters stopped releasing polls at one point in that election for awhile because they thought dewey was guaranteed to win that election. As a result they weren't able to track last minute shifts towards truman closer to the end of the election. The media during that election was also saying that it would be impossible for truman to catch up to dewey. Unless hilary pulls a dewey in the next few months you are right that trump won't become competitive again in this election.

To be fair, looking at the various polling charts, the beams are very much uncrossed and don't look like they're going to be crossed any time soon.

Danny Strong better be writing a whole 12-part miniseries based on this election.

I suggest a Trump Mode option in The Political Machine. Your final score is determined by how much you win the primary by multiplied by how much you lose the election by.

It's pretty amazing, he's replacing the campaign head because he's feeling boxed in and wanted to return to primary style of "Let Trump be Trump"? But when did he ever actually pivot? When did he actually temper his message?

He's reverting to something he never stepped away from.

Trump's turn away from Manafort is in part a reversion to how he ran his campaign in the primary with then-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. Lewandowski's mantra was "let Trump be Trump" and Trump wants to get back to that type of campaign culture, the aides said.
Well, I see someone is a fan of The West Wing! ;)

if the last few weeks was him holding back...lmao

Perfect news to wake up to.

I hate to admit it but it's become a sort of past time to read fresh daily news of how Trump has yet again put his foot in his mouth.

If this means more of those then yes please!!

He just wants to surround himself by people he will eventually put the blame on.

From 90% echo chamber to 100% echo chamber. Lol. He's so full of himself.

The only thing that sucks about having these partisan warriors by his side is expect the rhetoric to get even worse now, not to mention the accusations of rigged elections in swing states etc. These assholes will probably try going to the courts when Trump loses and he's got a far right media arm at his disposal to get the message out.

Honestly it's too late to pivot and be "presidential". I think he should ride this crazy train to its destination, he has no other choice.

Seriously, what is he going to do? Add another nickname to Hillary? Complain about Benghazi and emails? Say she founded ISIS? Routinely suggest she is a rape enabler? Talk about how she sleeps? Has to go to the bathroom? Should be in prison?

How much further right can you pivot? Just flat out calling her a bitch?

He's given a few controlled teleprompter speeches but yeah every moment outside of those nothing changed. You can only imagine how much bickering and pestering it took to get him to do those controlled policy speeches.

Still, he had to try something with his numbers plummeting. He's either so deluded that he thinks the policy speeches are what hurt him or he just decided, fuck it, I'm doubling down on what got me here and rallying as much of my base as possible.

I think, like Bernie, he may have decided he's not the candidate who can win this time but he might be able to keep his ideological movement alive. If they really are thinking about a new channel it's a bit scary.

I'll never forgive Manafort from denying Trump his dream ticket of Trump/Newt. So much missed opportunities for comedy.

How much further right can you pivot?

Trump is going to step to the right, circle around to the far left, fuse with Bernie and become Stalin reborn.

This is terrifying. His campaign hasn't spent a single penny on television ads yet. This dream team of his is going to absolutely slime the airwaves pretty soon, leaving record numbers disenchanted voters in its wake.

At this point I expect it.

I can see that dream team of his increasing the chance of a landslide win for Hilary at this point and increase voter turnout in November. His dream team won't hurt Hilary's chances of winning this election much but his own chances of winning this election.

It already was, I was curious once... So I peeked over there, just for a moment.... Oh boy, and with this news I can only imagine those boards lighting up

Bannon, in phone calls and meetings, has been urging Trump for months to not mount a fall campaign that makes Republican donors and officials comfortable, the aides said. Instead, Bannon has been telling Trump to run more fully as an outsider and an unabashed nationalist.

Trump has listened intently to Bannon and agreed with him, believing that voters will ultimately want a presidential candidate who represents disruption more than a candidate with polished appeal, the aides said.

But Bannon’s position could make any attempt to smooth relations in Washington difficult. Breitbart News has been harshly critical of House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and is seen as an antagonistic organ by congressional GOP leaders.

Trump pushingg further right, and his supporters even further right too, is not a good thing.

Wishing good luck to all minorities in America for this coming weeks.

I really wonder what will happen after this campaign now. Will the GOP split at some point? They just seem so divided and non of this will go away for many years.

I don't like this.

Trump moving out further to the right and to extremes just makes it easier for the rest of the GOP to disavow him and distance themselves.

Rather would've seen Trump go down together with the established party elements. Trump will be seen as a historically bad candidate and campaign in the future, so the further someone gets away from him now, the better. Moves like this will make it easier for the GOP to do just that, they'll be able to bounce back quicker.

Naw, it's only good news for the country. In the future we can avoid dangerous rhetoric as the GOP shifts towards the center, pushing the Democrats further to the Left.

Both parties become "better" and we have less chance of getting a populist/fascist elected.

But this will leave a certain group of people that will not except a more moderate GOP and all of this solidifies their existence. Question is just how big this group really is and what they're going to do.

Exactly. Which means he knows he's going to lose, right?
I don't know what he's thinking. But if there's anyone who could "swift boat" Hillary it would be this new alt right dream team. They're so slimy that I also anticipate lots of false accusations not only politically speaking, but legally speaking.

This is going to happen regardless. As the world changes, certain people feel left behind and lash out. The Tea Party happened because a black man became president.
