Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

Why does Noctis throw a Pokeball to use magic and why doesn't a Pokemon come out when he does this?

(Are there still magic rings?)
Magic (for the most part) are items. Hence: poke balls.

I can see mixing magics being a bit tedious when you want a bunch of the same magic item :P hopefully you can have recipe lists where we can just tap a button to make a magic

Noctis gets ring magic but we haven't seen it or have any idea of what it does.

I don't even think Cidney is going to be in the game that much....plus the other female designs are varied in their own right.

She's officially a party member.

Looking at how this game is performing, I feel confident there will be a Neo version next year. Unfortunately, any game with 10 years of development is going to have really high expectations; impossible expectations to live up to.

I watched the first 12 minutes released online. Could you tell me if it's related to the
magics we see at the start of the movie? Protect, Vanish and etc?

The movie explains exactly what the king's ring is, why people want it, why Noctis needs it, and what it can do.

As for what it means for the game... I'm guessing
it will represent FFXV's version of a limit break/trace mode.

Oh, thanks for the answer. I'll watch the movie to find out all of this.

You think the ring is connected to Armiger?

EDIT: Like, Phantom Swords. I don't think it's connected to that...at least I hope it's not.

Well, I don't want to spoil the movie or anything, so I'm not sure if you actually want to know what I mean by that, or if you're just wondering aloud.

I'll watch the movie anyway lol. Just spoil it to me. I'm saying that I don't think it's Armiger because in Episode Duscae, they were activated by just getting the Phantom Weapons. Like for example, the Armiger shield that Noctis had in 2006 you can just use by getting a Phantom Weapon. This also adds on to the Armiger/Limit Break system in place.

So, it HAS to be something else. There's another weapon slot just for the ring in the camp menu, after all.

Kingsglaive spoilers!

The ability to wield the phantom swords, to teleport, and to use magic are all part of the royal bloodline. So those basic abilities are not directly related to the ring. But the ring is the conduit that allows the wearer to communicate with the Old Kings of Lucis, to bargain for great power at a cost. For normal mortals this usually means death or outright rejection of those not worthy.

For royalty it probably means.... Trace Mode where all your abilities are heightened and you have unlimited cooldowns for a while. That's my guess.

The ring is
the secret power of Lucis, basically a collective power of summons and knowledge of kings that will only bestow great magical power to those they deem worthy which is first and foremost must be royal blood
(Kingsglaive big spoiler).

Looking at PS Access preview, no matter how much she's telling me it's awesome I'm just not feeling it. Towns feel empty, backgrounds in general lack detail, open world... we've seen much better this year, even TPP looks more consistent and detailed in that regard, and it's a cross gen. Lightning is constantly lacking... There's no soul to anything except for occasional sparkle when you're auto-driving or battling monsters (soundtrack is epic as expected, as well as animations). I'm sorry but there's not even a grand CGI opening. I don't see a glorious high budget Square Enix FF entry. Say what you like about XIII but that game looked beautiful and meticulously detailed (poor Nier should've get some of that budget). Also, again being such a downer, I'm not feeling any of design choices actually click: route 66 then it's suddenly Venice-like coast just behind the corner, they're J-pop band in a world with no true identity. Stuff like Chocobo races and fishing feels like filler content at best, obligatory markers. I feel the only way to be truly bold with this game was to scrap the Versus aspects entirely and start from scratch with Tabata-only vision; as it looks right now FFXV is a mish mash of ideas that don't play well with each other most of the time.

FWiw there is CGI during the opening but they cut it from this showing.

Good to know that. Jaw dropping kickass opening goes a long way. Although, admittedly, the car pulling low key sequence before the logo is great. You either go with just that (me being pro originality) or with that plus grand CGI intro before. Short scene before was poorly done, out of context, no sense of orientation, badly edited.

I absolutely don't like how in the span of the first 3 chapters you're commissioned errands by four different characters (Cindy, the guy in Galdin Quay, Cor and the little Falk-kid). Hope the main quests gets much, much tighter in terms of activities going forward, otherwise it would be a big no-no for me.

Aslso, i'm really curious to see to what degree we'll be able to customize Noctis and the Party combat styles, until now it almost feels like there's very little variation in playstyles.

Btw, i bet Shimomura had the time of her life composing this game's soundtrack, such a wide variety of genres!

Yeah I think storytelling via following a bunch of errands is terrible, especially since this is the start, you would expect something more natural yet exciting to kickstart the story. I still think the encounter with Stella and the whole escape sequence out of Lucis from Versus XIII would have made a better start than chapter 0 and chapter 1. And yes I still think finding out the invasion of Niflheim through newspaper is uninteresting and anticlimactic.

Looks like a mess tbh. 10 years of ideas cobbled together within an engine that is at breaking point. With horribly mismatched voice acting on top of story and animation laced with anime tropes.

I get you're other points, but outside of Gladio's sister what the hell do you mean by the bolded?

Which anime tropes are there besides the fanservice character?

She's Luna's attendant and does appear in Brotherhood. I guess it'd have been nice to see a cameo in Kingsglaive during
the Altissia Luna segments

Also googling Gentiana dropped this

Wew.

I must have missed something but...
what Altissia Luna segments? The movie ends before she ever gets there...

I just watched Brotherhood 1-3 and it turns out that it's very helpful in explaining several things which are completely taken for granted that the player knows about in those 50 minutes we've seen of FFXV proper.

They are really pulling a Halo here, breaking out various bits of background story from the game and putting it in these shorts. I think it's safe to guess that there's a lot of important stuff in Kingsglaive which is also left completely out of FFXV but you better know about it too or the story won't make sense to you.

In unrelated news, I greatly prefer the JP voice work just from hearing the main four in Brotherhood alone.

Also, it's hilarious that Insomnia is depicted in Brotherhood 2 as literally Japan with some really high walls around it. They apparently had absolutely no interest in making Insomnia look like a fictional city in a fictional world, I mean it's a 12-minutes short so fuck it, let's just draw the school and the city like it's Japan.

Well, tbh, so far we've had the tomboy-mechanic-in-tight-pants, the cool-sexy-dragoon-with-exposed-armor, and the cute-little-sister. It's not exactly just one thing...

Are those actually anime tropes or just descriptions of characters with a certain design.

I mean..cute little sister, she's not nanako, she's the sister of a protagonist...and a soldier lady with weird armor.

I guess i'm wondering how having a younger sister, a dragoon solider with a certain design and a tomboy mechanic are actually 'tropes' that come from anime media.

Sorry, meant
Tenebrae
Where Ravus puts her in a room and tells her to stay put.

Oh, well based on Kingsglaive, I'm just assuming that
Luna gets sent backup or meets more allies once she gets to Altissia, and that's when she gets an attendant for her Oracle quest.

I don't have bittorrent installed so can someone upload the gamersyde file onto mega or something?

Nomura always wanted all of the locations to vaguely resemble modern world locations while having a fictional presence around them, from the beginning of Versus's conception. Insomnia in particular was supposed to be based on Shinjuku in Japan.

Hence the term 'a fantasy based on reality'
