What in good fuck is happening in here?
With the way Nintendo has all but gone on hiatus this last year anyone would be forgiven for thinking that Nintendo doesn't even have a marketing team. The plan to get Mario into the Rio closing ceremony was unexpected but it's still not enough. What Nintendo really needs is a workable strategy, to promote the company every month. Rather then vanishing from the world, only to suddenly reappear at Rio.
Uukhh. It is like talking to a brick wall. And another thing here i want to told u here which probably will make u surprise here.
The mass people don't know what is NX or even it's existence. The main target of this ads is to make people remember that Mario is still a huge thing.
The short tem effect of this promotion would be those casual people going to look for Mario experience and they can still get Mario from 3DS/2DS or Wii U so it is not like Nintendo don't had any consoles to sold here.
However, the most important will be the long term effect. As more people will remember Mario, the NX will be position on much better position vs when Wii U is launched(Wii is long dead and there is little hype for Nintendo product.) This time, Nintendo name is in rises. So, i totally can't fathom how u said this is a bad move.
Nintendo is a mistake. E3 is bigger than Olympic. Everyone and their grandpa is waiting for NX. Nintendo had no consoles/handheld to sold to mass at all right now so they are doing all the wrong thing in wasting money for this promotion.
All in all, Nintendo is fcking DOOMED. DOOOMEEDDDDDDDD.

You really have no idea how brand marketing and awareness works. You're probably one of those people who can't see beyond short-term plans if their lives depend on it. I wouldn't be surprised if the furthest you can think about is what's for tonight's dinner.

WoW! that was pretty darn cool. I wish people would just learn to relax and enjoy things again.
As I said earlier in this thread, Nintendo's core brand is fundamentally damaged. The failure of the WiiU has eroded Nintendo's market share and good will with the public. Until Nintendo finally reveals the NX and gives gamers something tangible to think about any publicity stunt they cook-up will fall flat. Because right now there's no new product that Nintendo can connect to Mario at Rio.

Nintendo doesn't benefit that much from Pokémon GO. If anything, they'd stand to benefit more from Animal Crossing & Fire Emblem.
Did you see the Pokemon X and Y sales? Nintendo does nothing but profit from Pokemon Go at this point.

I meant directly from the game itself, which was something that Nintendo had to say to their investors. They indirectly benefit from getting sales for X/Y & OR/AS.

In the eyes of the general public Pokemon is Nintendo's baby. As long as they are associated with pokemon, the brand awareness will take care of itself.

Yes, & it's funny how their most successful mobile game so far is the one where Nintendo had the least amount of involvement on. Though to be fair, Pokémon is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. And as stated earlier, sales for the mainline games have gone up despite the 3DS being on its way out.

The fact that the Mario pipe remained the centerpiece of Japan's presentation puts a tear to my eye. And it just ends with it being part of the tokyo landscape.
Nintendo 3DS had also been rising though like in UK and many other countries here though.

By now you really shouldn't be surprised that Nintendo receives criticism from all corners, even in a thread like this. As a company Nintendo faces a lot of problems at the moment, having Mario appear at Rio doesn't mean that people should forget all the mistakes that lead Nintendo to this point.
