IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

Getting close to taking a chance on this but I wish the buttons on the right were placed differently. Power, Guide, and Volume buttons above Start/Select/L3/R3 isn't ideal placement.

Thanks, but that doesn't answer my question about refunds if the product doesn't come to be.

They were making the thing regardless of the Indiegogo campaign, this simply allowed them more time and ability to improve the device as it went on, drums up excitement and mindshare for the initial product. Your free to buy one after it ends as third party sellers will most likely have a bunch to sell, but their a trustworthy company for the most part and it would end up killing their business if they *somehow* don't end up making it which they already have prototypes out for people. Either wait or do a chargeback.

Once it is funded? No refunds.

That's how indiegogo operates, as well as KS. So I don't get why you're asking this when it is under the standard policy.

The extras as to sell more units in case people wanted to buy after the crowdfunding ended.

Thanks both. I was asking because I've never funded anything via KS or Indiegogo before.

It's my first backing but when I'm on my accent page there is a "refund " button than I can click. Won't try it though

Dear Backers.

We already send a small batch of GPD WIN prototype(Z8700 fanless version) to some Chinese gamer.
And they had done many game test, include Crysis 3,Resident Evil 6,The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and etc.
We will upload the latest game test video or some update news in our official social platform,
Here is the link:
1.YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt-jwZf54wt2UGCOW84iVKQ
2.Twitter: https://twitter.com/softwincn
3.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/4GPDWin
You can subscribe to know the latest information of GPD WIN.
Can probably find info a lot faster through the Chinese forums but having an English source is kinda nice especially since I utterly fail at using Baidu.

Also new update from the JD site.
亲爱的玩家们,大家好,本次更新电源适配器规格,由之前的5V/2A升级到5V/2.5A。谢谢大家支持。
Dear players, Hello, everyone, this update power adapter specification, upgrading from the previous 5V / 2A to 5V / 2.5A. Thank you for your support.
Sounds like a nice little upgrade albeit first you need to actually get a charger that can output 2.5a and some quality cables.

Also also new image of heatsink.
Image host credit to vcoleiro1 since my attempt at rehosting the original failed.

Between the test videos and reading up on various devices within its wheelhouse, a fair number of 360 games running at near 30 fps is feasible. Better than I expected. Plan on primarily sticking with emulators and pre 2005 games, but I'll mess with some others. I know Alpha Protocol runs well on an older laptop.

Somewhat related but I hope Intel releases this chip to the public so GPD can make a Win 2 using it even if it draws more power and battery dies quicker.
Currently it looks like the chip is just for IoT things and they aren't selling the chip by itself for computers.

It'd probably be a lot more expensive though as well as being hotter.

Getting closer and closer to launch date, I'm starting to get hyped up.

Some comparisons between the GPD WIN Prototype, PYRA and Pandora. The WIN will be 23.5mm thick while the PYRA is 32mm thick.

Nice thing about the Pyra's thickness is having stacked shoulder buttons. Not a fan of the side-by-side shoulder buttons of the New 3DS, but it's the only way to keep it thin. My ideal GPD Win would be in an Nvidia Shield package. Not something to fit in a pocket, but nearly has the comfort of an Xbox pads.

Yeah personally don't care if it doesn't stick in my pocket most handhelds I keep at home or have a bag for them anyway.

Passive vs active prototypes.
Redesigning and shoving that that fan in must not have been easy.

From staring at 2 different machine translations I think they are waiting for JD.com to release the backers money after which they will ship devices out?
I am not really sure that is correct though.
If any of you has a friend that can read Chinese that could tell us what it really says I'd be grateful.

A big album of a prototype Win taken outside at various angles.

You'll have to forgive my double post because I'm hyped to hell right now.

Test for half an hour, the fanless versions before this project was instantly reduced frequency
Anything the passive cooled protoypes can do this can do better, far far better.
Battery is very low although I will note we have no context and the battery could have been not fully charged to begin with.

Definitely will be interesting to see this when it comes out. I'm thinking Nintendo's NX is going to be crazy more powerful than this though with a Tegra x or x2.

That said, I understand this is to play Windows-based content, so very different devices. However, I usually only like to make room for one handheld in my life at a time.

If Nvidia were to make an x86/windows handheld, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. That's the appeal of this thing. You can find plenty of Android or Linux handhelds out there. Knowing I can install my pc copy of Halo CE and play it on a handheld is neat.

Just better off getting an nvidia shield instead of this.

Not really, not even remotely. I mean, if you only play it at home, the shield would probably be a better idea.

Portable wise though? This is way better, and it actually runs Windows games unlike the Shield.

So emulation, older PC games, and Capcom games.

Oh boy... If the NX wasn't around the corner, this would be an insta-purchase.

Maybe educate yourself alittle first before doing a drive by post comparing two devices while similar are very different, operating system being the obvious factor.

If it was windows I would have waited it out, something like the GPD Win is what I wanted handhelds to go for a long time, hoping more companies consider making a windows based handheld.

Some random details from IGG comments and Baidu.
Thanks for support.Sorry we may let your down. But as David and Alexander say,The final prototype will be finished this week or next week.then we will spend a few day for testing and debug.I think we can finish this work before early Sep. then we will start mass production. We hope can start shipping in October and arrival in November at the latest.Really hope your can understand and patiently waiting....
Thanks for support. As long as preliminary work is done,no any issue. We can produce 2K-3K a week,And I estimate it have been preordered more than 7K already....
Thanks for support. It should be around 900g weight, include GPD WIN,Product packaging and carton.
I think after all 3 worldwide crowdfunding projects ended final tally was a bit above 5800 devices so over a thousand additional preorders on third party site bodes well for the device since it hasn't even been released yet.

cpu80 degree? Top desktop cpui7-6700k Notebook double chicken also 90 gpd low power cpu80 this is not the high point of the official can not think of a way to lower and lower point temperature ah! Also hand holding the plug vents are not blocked when it?
内核温度,不是机身温度,机身温度基本不超过40度
Core temperature, not body temperature, the body temperature is basically no more than 40 degrees

We are in the final stretch, there is little chance GPD will delay getting anything to the Chinese JD.com backers at least.

Second, the delayed return (delivery) Compensation

1. After a successful fund-raising project, according to the project sponsor should ensure the timely commitment to supporters in return. As in the case of return or delay the emergence of timely delivery, the need for timely sponsors supporters were compensated according to the following criteria. Compensation shall be deducted from the deposit or other funds controlled by the sponsor of Jingdong, Jingdong issued by the sponsor on behalf of the supporters. Shortfalls sponsor should promptly make up to Jingdong money. Jingdong on behalf of the sponsors of the advance compensation, the right to recover the promoters. Supporters just enjoy sweepstakes eligibility stalls and stalls and selfless support except from the case of direct compensation insurance company supporters.
2. Jingdong and supporters agree on compensation matters and complete the payment, the sponsor has been regarded as supporters of full compliance with the obligation to compensate.
Jingdong days late delivery compensation standards (with valid purchase order)
X≤10 day every single 5 yuan
10 days <X≤ 20 days a single 10 yuan
20 days <X≤30 single 15 yuan per day
Bit gibberishy but JD has some steep penalties for delays per day.
A month over and I think they refund money although I'm not clear on that.

I wonder how using one of these for visual novels will be. I already own a W10 tablet that runs most of the ones I own, which a bigger screen. Since the genre doesn't require complex input, I think a tablet will still do a better job for that.

I'd imagine it'd be very similar to playing a visual novel on the Vita or any other handheld device once the buttons are properly mapped. Only difference is that the font size and UI may not be ideal for a small screen depending on the game.

I'm tempted to snatch one with Nexdock for university:
NexDock.jpg

You won't play x86 games on Nvidia Shield.

I thought the Nexdock was a cool idea so when I researched more about it I stumbled upon the Moto Atrix Lapdock and scored one for $20 ^_^ though I'm not sure how I'm gonna connect it to the GPD...

Anyone else buying accessories to prepare for the GPD?

Would I be correct in assuming that this thing would be a great fit for Steam In-Home Streaming?

I've got a monster gaming rig, but it's upstairs in my den. It'd be great to have a portal gaming device that could access my Steam library via streaming to play downstairs in the living room while my wife watches TV.

Ive been contemplating getting this for my nephew's 3rd birthday for auite some time now lol
I may recommend it for my brother so he can play his psx games that we have on psn on the go

It probably would require some fiddling around and fine tuning for various games or emulators for someone so young.

Ain't smooth, but for a game in the last five years Dishonored is playable.

Fanless GPD WIN so the final one should help alittle with some resolution tweaks, I got a ton of games im going to try out, maybe overestimated the device alittle considering some of the games I have prepared...

Whats everyone going to play on this thing BTW?
The games I have prepared and happy to try out for everyone are:

Adventures Of Pip, Angry Video Game Nerd 2, Metroid 2 Remake, Shovel Knight, Castle In The Darkness, Nuclear Throne, Pewdiepie Legend Of The Brofist, Streets Of Rage Remake, Ziggurat, Warhammer Space Marine, Trails Evolution, Titan Souls, Deadly Towers Of Monsters, The Darkness 2, Chronicles Of Riddick Assault, The Cave, Banner Saga 2, SteamWorld Heist, Stealth Inc 2, South Park the Stick of Truth, Sonic and All Stars Racing, Song of The Deep, Skullgirls, Singularity, Shantae and The Pirates Curse, Shank, Shank 2, Shadow Complex Remasterd, Rogue Legacy, Rocket League, Pshychonauts, Portal, Overlord, Orcs Must Die 2, Never Alone, Metal Slug Collection, Left 4 Dead 2, Jotun, Half Life 2, Guacarmelee, Grim Dawn, Ghostbusters The Video Game, Gauntlet, Fable The Lost Chapters, F.E.A.R 2, Dust An Elysian Tale, Dungeons And Dragons Chronicles, Ducktales Remaster, Double Dragon Neon, Deathspank Trilogy, Dead Space, Dead Space , Day Of the Tentacle, Crysis 2, Brothers A Tale Of Two Sons, Broforce, Braid, Bioshock 1, Alan Wake, A Boy And His Blob, Tembo The Badass Elephant, Mark Of The Ninja, Dark Sector, Rayman Origins, Bullstorm.

Maaaaaybe too many on hand but I want to test as many games as I have.

Waay too many games from humble bundles and a bunch of visual novels if text is readable, a bunch of anime I need to catch up on and possibly world of warships if I can get a decent framerate.
There seem to be quite a few of us with large stockpiles of games that we haven't had time to play before.
Once it comes out are we getting a OT or just gonna continue using this thread?

OP Said He/She would make another thread when it launches, if they still want to.
