Martial arts expert and actor Jackie Chan will receive a lifetime achievement Oscar, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday.

Chan, 62, the Hong Kong-born star of Hollywood movies such as "Kung Fu Panda," "The Karate Kid" and the "Rush Hour" franchise, will join documentary maker Frederick Wiseman, British film editor Anne V. Coates and casting director Lynn Stalmaster as recipients of the 2016 Governors Awards.

Actor Jackie Chan poses for the cameras at the announcement of the beginning of production for the science fiction action film 'Bleeding Steel', which has been billed by producers as the biggest budget Chinese film ever shot in Australia, in Sydney, Australia July 28, 2016.

Each will get an honorary Oscar statuette recognizing their lifetime contribution to film at a gala in Los Angeles in November.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs in a statement called them all "true pioneers and legends in their crafts."

Chan made his movie debut at the age of 8, and has acted and sometimes written and directed more than 30 martial arts movies in Hong Kong. He has never won an Oscar.

In August, he was ranked the second-highest paid actor in the world by Forbes with estimated 2016 earnings of $61 million, just below "Fast and Furious" star Dwayne Johnson.

Absolutely deserves it, especially since his contributions to action cinema are really under-appreciated by the general western film going public.

And yes, about damn time.

Congratulations. His movies were a huge part of my childhood in the 80s, then again in the 90s with Rush Hour. Literally put his life on the line for the craft and entertaining the fans.

Oscars are a joke, but I'm glad he's getting the acknowledgement. Now how long before someone pops in to tell us how awful of a person he is?

Don't know why but I'm tearing up a little. Love the man.

Will he be able to give a speech at the Oscars or anything?

Definitely deserves it. Very meh on his politics, but there's no way anyone can deny the mark he's left on the artform.

I'm down with this. Great person and martial artist.

Rumble in the Bronx, Drunken Master 2 and Who Am I were a huge part of my youth.

He might have some questionable personal issues, but the guy is one of the top 3 entertainers ever. Well deserved.

Bravo. It's a damn shame there is no Oscar for best stunts or best action especially since action scenes and spectacle are some of the most defining parts of Hollywood and film making in general. The man has put life and limb on the line and it's much deserved.

Project A is still my personal favorite Jackie Chan movie. But all his work is so great.

Absolutely deserved in every possible way.
