That's what I'm going with.

Pearl offered to show him how to activate Rose's Armory and I assume that meant she could do it herself. You don't even have to be a Gem, a Robonoid was able to activate the Kindergarten on its own by just imitating a hand.

It remains to be seen if a human can use those panels.

Somehow I'd assumed the hand plates were generic door switches that just require a humanoid hand with five fingers to press down.

By wanting to hook up with someone whole reminds her of Rose physically. Right.
She thought she got rejected by her and didn't seem so broken up by it at the end, I think that shows a lot of progress.

How has she lived this long and not figured out what a phone number is by the way?

The title "Last One Out Of Beach City" had me expecting something very different.

Really awkward episode. Pearl going for a human just seems off to me. The human being a "mystery woman" with zero dialogue doesn't help either.

Also, what was the episode an homage to? I could tell it was pretty clearly parodying something, but I don't know what.

episode itself seems to mimic those late '90s/early '00s roadtrip films where the protags spend the entire movie trying to make some show or catch up to some person before it's too late.

Phone numbers have existed for only 100 or so years, that's minutes to someone who has lived 5000

She calls Steven's cellphone his "communication device". Pearl is very selective about what human conveniences she exposes herself to, I guess. I suppose she's never had a need or reason to call anyone that wasn't a Gem since the invention of the telephone.

I really liked both of the previous episodes.

Future Boy Zoltron got a bad reaction here, but I really liked it as soon as Mr Frowny entered the picture.

And Last One Out of Beach City was just awesome. Pearl keeps getting the best episodes.

Pilot Pearl just looks wrong with that nose and that... Skirt? What the hell is that orange thing?

Wait, people didn't like Future Boy Zoltron? Huh. I thought it was hilarious! It seems like it might work pretty well as an episode to show people to introduce them to the show's humor, since it's so standalone and only really spoils the stuff about future vision.

I didn't like Say Uncle at all but I'm fine with Ronaldo.

EDIT:

This isn't something like "Read Only Memories" where every single couple is gay because "diversity".

Saw this, and... that's a weird complaint to make, to me? Don't really wanna argue about this, but that game has such diverse characters because that reflects the creators. The devs run GaymerX, even! It was the most casually inclusive game I've ever played, which was a really nice experience. I'm not sure how that kind of thing is a negative.

No, see, if any given media property doesn't point out how gay it is, it's just checking boxes.

I mean don't get me wrong I liked the game enough (although I felt it was missing... actual gameplay) But every single couple in the game, or hell every single duo of characters ends up being gay. When everyone is "diverse", nobody is. It felt by the end that the game was trying to make too much of a point about it, it wasn't subtle, it wasn't helping the problem it was just going to the other extreme.

That's how it felt to me anyway. The game was great in a lot of other ways, but that one aspect bugged me.

I mean don't get me wrong I like roughly 98% of media enough (although I felt it was missing... actual gays) But every single couple in it, or hell every single duo of characters ends up being straight. When everyone is "diverse", nobody is. It felt by the end that the game was trying to make too much of a point about it, it wasn't subtle, it wasn't helping the problem it was just going to the other extreme.

Your mocking needs work. 90% doesn't even apply to what you're saying you're just copying it to try and demean me as a person rather than actually react to my argument. And even then, I very clearly said it was my own opinion. There's absolutely no need to be a jerk about it.

I'm gay myself, and when I'm presented with a media that prides itself on being "progressive" and then find out that it's just subverting everything (like you attempted to do with my post) that's not helping. Being progressive means advocating progress. Progress isn't some future world where everybody couple is gay and every single person is their own unique snowflake of quirks and kinks.

This game does a great job of handling the idea of personal identity, but it fails overall (in my opinion) in depicting a truly progressive, realistic setting.

Anything else said on the topic should probably done via pm's or a ROM thread if one exists.

it's still a real shame that the likely last episode of 2016 will be an onion episode :/

preview clip really didn't give me much hope for it either.

gonna suck if the worst episode of the summer of steven was the last one.

maybe I will just pretend like it doesn't exist... treat last one out of beach city as the last episode of 2016 and watch this episode when the show returns.

I think Onion Gang is the episode which has a big curveball coming. Not only am I suspicious because it's the last episode before hiatus, but seeing that clips it looks like it's a nicely animated episode and the cinematography is surprisingly well done in that small clip with kind of darker colors for Steven's home than we usually see that set a weird mood. I feel the episode wouldn't be that immaculately made if it was just an Onion episode without something deeper going on. Not to mention Onion and Steven seem to be alone at Steven's home, but this episode is about Onion's "secret friends." While most people would assume his friends would be members of Beach City, maybe there's something more going on there.

Just caught up on the last 6 or so episodes. There's been a lot of boring filler-type episodes since S3 ended. I did enjoy "The Last One Out of Beach City" a lot.

I think they dropped the ball with Mindful Education. Steven reveals his internal strife and seemingly comes to terms with it over the space of 30 seconds. The episode would have been much better if the fusion had failed and they simply got saved or something. Hopefully they explore this further.

I'd go for Mr. Greg personally.
yep, definitely Mr. Greg.

He hasn't come to terms with it. It's clear that he was trying to push everything away and not think about it, but by the end of the episode he learns he has to acknowledge it before he can start to move on. He's completed that first step, but he still has to actually deal with it.

Sure, but the episode clearly tried to have some resolution happen without really putting in any effort for it to make sense. It comes off as lazy.

And the way he learned it was just having Connie yell at him just what he already heard from Garnet. They trivialized the whole thing.

see while we have discussions on what character is the worst and people like Lars and Ranaldo pop up, for me onion is by far the worst... so bad that I often block him from my memory to even include him from the worst character rankings @_@

Onion is a horrible person and a psychopath, but as a character he is incredibly entertaining, and he provided the only thing i laughed about in Zoltron.

Ronaldo is as much a psychopath as Onion, but he's also incredibly annoying as a character.

You're actually in the same boat as mine, Onion is my least favorite character of the cast. I actually like Lars, and Renaldo would be my second least favorite but I think he's alright. He has some funny moments and scenes. I don't hate Onion, and there's some amusing scenes with him, but I like him more when he only appears briefly for sight gags than in episodes where he's a bigger focus and gets more screentime.

But I do think this episode has a curveball coming.
