Dead Rising |OT| Chop Till You Drop Remastered

Totally forgot how unforgiving 1 is. Time to relearn everything.

If I do end up getting this, I'm going to repeatedly force myself to not worry about trying to do everything/save everyone. I'm just going to take things as they come. I got all the achievements in the original game, and it was a fucking nightmare. The extremely demanding schedule management combined with the horrendous survivor AI made trying to rescue everyone a huge chore.

The first time around, it's very hard to do everything and save everyone because you're so underpowered to start. New Game + is a much better experience if you want to go for completion.

I picked up my copy on my lunch. 3 more hours till I jump back into this! Shame that I couldn't get 20% off since best buy is slow with these Capcom HD releases in my area.

What was the best level to fight adam? I don't have enough guns it seems :/

Edit: Nevermind, got him, lol. That was close. Thanks for the help, guys. I forgot about his...balloons ;)

You can fight him at a low level just fine if you take advantage of a certain trick.

You can shoot his balloons and cause some serious damage while staying far away. There are also cops around that almost always have pistols to remain far away.

I would say to take a casual approach to any DR game when you start it. You should be able to finish the story no problem, but if you want to restart it at anytime you might as well. You'll take your PP with you'll only be stronger and more capable of doing more each time.

Man, Otis has to be the brother of Roman.

I'm cool.

DR feels so freaking good at 60fps

144 fps for me. Mainly though it just adds further salt into the wound that is a lack of Case Zero. Framerate was always an issue with Case Zero on Xbox 360, and there is still no other way to play it. At least with DR2 and DR3 you have the PC versions you could brute force to decent framerates at their respective launches.

I know I should get over it, but Case Zero was awesome and I'd love a version that holds up.

Microsoft could still add it to BC list. Could potentially run at a consistent framerate.

I would have rather they did Case Zero and Case West instead of Off the record.
I'm saying this having not played Off the record though

God damn! Rushed home from work, got it installed only to find that I get the message 'unable to save for some unknown reason' when I try to save on the first couch !

I suppose we can hold out hope, even if it doesn't run consistently on the normal Xbox One, Scorpio in theory could make a difference. But a PC version would have been golden. Oh well.

Pro tip for DR1 beginners: the mannequin torso is one of the strongest weapons in the game, at least until you get access to the mini chainsaws.

Soccer balls are great for knocking over a bunch of zombies blocking a door you want to go through.

Mini chainsaws can be triple booked with entertainment, engineering (both in Paradise Plaza) and criminal biography (in Wonderland Plaza).

Every book triples the durable of a weapon and they stack. So the weapons you can double book last 9 times as long. Only the mini chainsaws and a few others can be triple booked, but they last 27 times longer than normal that way.

Okay, couple of quick questions before I decide if I'll buy the game: when you die, you respawn somewhere right and the game just keeps going, you don't have to load an earlier save? If so, what's the death penalty?

And I heard that when you finish the game in some manner (finish the story or run out of time(?) I guess), something carries over to your next new game and you start stronger. Is this true and if so, what does carry over? Does it go like, relatively weak on NG, stronger on NG+, EVEN stronger on NG++, even EVEN stronger on NG+++ etc?

I can answer the first question.... There is no quick save if I recall correctly. You always have to manually save in the toilets.

You have to load an early save if you die.

Stuff that carries over is character level and stuff that gets unlocked from achievements (mega buster for zombie genocider, beam saber for 5 day survivor etc)
You level up by getting pp which you can get from taking pictures and killing zombies. I think you get more pp if you kill them in goofy ways. Max level is 50

Mind you I would advise a restart after playing til up about lvl 10. Then you have some understanding of the mechanics and you'll be able to more effeciently play the game with 10 extra lvls.

If I buy Dead RIsing 2 on Steam now, will it be the remastered version? Because it shows the 2010 release date...

It's only "remastered" for consoles, in the sense that it's just the PC version for DR2 and OTR running on them. The first game is the only one that really needed to be remastered, as it never left the 360.

Game froze when looking at the leaderboards lol.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind

DR1 Tip I just remembered
when the power shuts off at night if you have the toy lightsaber in your inventory it glows. Don't think it needs to be equipped either

unless they've changed it for this version, after the opening sequences, if you don't leave the saferoom for the mall until after the time you're supposed to start the first quest, then the remainder of the story quests will never trigger and you've got 3 days to kill time, explore and rescue non-story survivors.

happened to me by accident the first time i played, because i was just goofing around and time passes so fast. it took like a day of game time before i realized something had gone wrong and there would be no story.

it was fun to just mess around and find how everything worked, and then start new game very powerful.

With the Olympics just recently ended, I had the idea that a Dead Rising game set in an Olympic Park/Host City. Lots of interesting opportunities to make fun of that culture and varied enough environments for different Psychopaths.

I'd really like to know if this is still the case as I'd probably do this on purpose if I can!

I really don't like the stutter when you hit zombies. People say it's "hit stop", but it really doesn't work when you're hitting lots of things in a crowd, it just feels like the game gets jittery.

Does this make most of the mall open, like the entrance plaza?

This is sandbox done right...even after ten years. I just love the "small" but dense environment. So many details!

Dat country music...just chilling in the restroom

Edit: Now I know what this music reminds me of...Banjo Kazooie, lol

Hah I died pretty quick on my play.

Runs well at 4K tho, sadly game keeps telling me every time I save that it can't due to unknown error or something :(

Oh, so you can start a new game when you die and keep your levels.

I... Kinda want to maybe try restarting every time I die? Is that an utterly stupid idea, how long is the game on average? Of course parts os subsequent runs would obviously go faster since I'm just going through the same stuff.

6 hours roughly. 2 hours per day, 3 days till the chopper picks you up.

Damn the crazy
clown
just kicked my ass.
As a general rule are firearms reliable to take down bosses or am I better off seeking good melee weapons?

only those spaces that are open by default at the start of the game. so anything that only opens as a result of story progress is locked away.

most of the wings of the mall are open, but iirc there a few places you can't go, like the entrance.

I wouldn't restart everytime you died, mostly because you shouldn't be dying too much. Your goal when you first start should be gaining levels and learning the mall, its layout and locations and items.

Oh. Yeah. Of course lmao, completely forgot about the real-time nature of the game haha.

That's a fair point! I suppose I'll decide on a death-by-death basis.

Are Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2:OTR working for you guys on ps4 ?

I can't even get to the main menu it just hangs forever at capcom intro.

Yeah gain as much levels as you can by killing zombies, rescuing survivors or killing psychos. You can also play the main story until a certain point (until it gets too hard for your taste). Don't restart every time.
And don't forget to take pictures (enemies, survivors, etc)

What the fuck, never noticed this, lol.

Lovely hands
