Dead Rising |OT| Chop Till You Drop Remastered

God damn this game is so fun. Even having to redo an hour of gameplay cause I stupidly didn't save often enough.. still had a blast repeating all of it.
It's also inadvertently hilarious at times. I saved David (the guy with the bad leg on the north side of the mall) which was like a 20 minute process, both the Japanese tourists died along the way and he and I both only made it to the security office with a sliver of health and David goes, "This place is kinda out of the way huh?" Brother, you have no idea!

How do I deal with the jeep in DR1 can't save anybody because I don't have a key for the maintenance hallways

I don't think you get the key for the tunnels until day 2 or 3.
----

On the technical side, I was noticing some framedrops/microstutter when attacking zombies with AOE weapons (like those big sheets of plywood), but only after having alt-tabbed out in fullscreen. Guess the game doesn't like that so much.

Also hoping someone figures out how to increase the zombie draw distance. Seeing them pop in (even when its kinda far away) is a bummer.

My biggest memories from this game are going under the mall getting the car and just raking up kills. I know sooner or later you get something cool from doing it - isn't it the Megman buster or something? Made all the bossfights a lot easier

Are you unable to read the subtitles unless you have a 4K TV?

Still bitter over that shit from 2006. I had to go buy a VGA cable and play it on my computer monitor to get the proper experience.

I had no idea this was coming out. I remember loving the demo on the 360 but I never got around to actually buying the game. Time to fix that.

Still a surprising amount of aliasing at 1440P and 8x MSAA and the text/icons(especially the guide marker) don't scale well which is disappointing but 144FPS is grand.

Crazy replaying it after all these years, I remember just being blown aware by the scale when it came out and now I'm thinking "Which there wasn't so much enemy pop-in", lol.

how is it i still remember the feeling of dread from the jeep music its been at least 7 years since i've played this
I remember the first time playing this and walking through the park again after killing the dudes. "why the hell is the music playing again.... OH GOD THEY'RE BACK!"

Is there a comparison between the Xbox and Ps4 version? I usually buy Ps4 but I kinda associate the series to Xbox. Wouldn't mind buying them there if they are even.

I was in the same boat - I must say, as a small slice, being left unchecked to roam around the mall to wreak havoc felt refreshing and made the demo highly replayable and enjoyable in small bursts. Having played a few hours of the full game for the first time, I personally don't feel like it pads out that experience in a satisfying way. The actual objectives are monotonous, and the save system/ lack of checkpoints just makes the already tedious tasks that much more of a chore to get through. I see many others that enjoy that sort of 'unforgiving' experience, but it's not really for me.

That being said, ploughing through massive waves of zombies to get from point A to B is still ridiculously fun, so I'll stick through it for one play through atleast.

Wow this is like, legitimately the first time a Steam game has ever unlocked early for me (5 hours, no less!)

Has 144hz support and can turn off motion blur, yay!

Anyone know if PC version has ultrawide support?

It does. Own the game and while the cutscenes are still 16:9 the actual gameplay is at 21:9. Port seems good so far.

I bought a 360 for this game and I have never regretted it. The save system is great, but not for everyone. Keeps the stakes high and makes the game more tense.
Protip: mixing drinks in a blender is highly recommended.

I would love to pick this up on PC right now, but it wouldn't be responsible with my ridiculous backlog... I'll just wait for DR4...

So on Steam is this the "Triple" and "Collectors" packs? They aren't specified as remasters or anything so kind of hard to tell from the mobile app, which doesn't display release dates on some things.

Should be. There are no new releases of dr2 and otr. DR1 remaster only came out today, so the pack with the three games contains the only pc versions of the 3 games.

DR2 and OTR on Steam are the same on PC as they always were (well, at least after they removed GFWL a few months ago) I think.. Dead Rising is only just now appearing on PC though.

Is the only way to get this on PS4 to buy the triple bundle?

Also - i know this is sacrilege but... did they add an option for a free-run/explore/timer-free sort of mode to any of the games? I love the mechanic but i'd also love to just go in the world and dick around on my time.

But you can do this anyway. Just ignore the missions.

I had so much fun with the first game on 360 yet haven't played any of the other offerings from last gen, just a bit of DR3 on the 'bone. I'd like to get this but I just know I won't have the time anymore. It's hard enough juggling one game now. Curse you middle age crisis!

Beat that dumb clown with handguns no problem, but leading the dumbass survivors is severely testing my patience. The AI needs a serious overhaul.

Some things were better off left in 2006.

But doesnt stuff happen and lock you out of certain areas and such then? I cant remember... it's been AGES! I just remember getting burned out and wanting to turn the timer off lol.

Certain events unlock certain things, yes. I'll normally play through Case 1 just to unlock the entrance hallway area, for example, but think of the areas you won't see on the first play through as incentive for the second play through.

It's a 6 hour first playthrough if you just focus on surviving. Which survivors die, who cares. You're just learning the layout, which side quests are worth doing and when they open up, that sort of thing, and levelling up Frank. You'll have a lot more fun first time through if you're just treating the whole thing as a sandbox for six hours than if you're trying to do everything in one go starting with a Level 1 Frank.

Then you'll have a replay with a bunch of new content to see.

I've played the game before, but I'm still going to do a B ending first playthrough before I do an overtime ending play through. And like I said, the B ending playthrough is one of the better endings.

Yes, this is true. I can't remember which areas though, I'm going to play this game for the first time since 2006, lol. Ten years...and I still remember almost everything. This game is good.

Ton on whether to pick these up on Xbox One or PS4. I've got a 20% off coupon I gotta use before October on PS4, and it's definitely my preferred platform (heck of a lot easier to grab screens and video, anyway), but it's tempting to keep the whole series together on Xbox One.

Off the Record specifically has a Sand Box mode that lets you just run around, timer and survivor free (well, some of them are repurposed as enemies). Not sure if any areas are locked off, though.

Which game is considered the best?

I haven't played OTR so I'm assuming that has the most features?

I only really wanna buy one and I know I enjoyed 1 more than 2.

Oh shit! I was just about to pull the trigger on DR1 but this may sway me to get Off the Record instead.

Does OTR also support online co-op?

This is weird to hear, the game had very good iq on 360, and was only 720p and msaa4x.

Looking around online and it looks like it does? I never tried it myself, but I'm pretty sure player 2 runs around as Chuck Greene.

I'm in a weird boat in that I never played Dead Rising 2 proper, so the (apparently) much goofier OTR was a hoot. Just watch out for those jump scares they added, though.

I just played one and never finished. Kinda want it now. But I want to buy just one and wait the other on sales as capcom often does

Which one should I go with ?

Can't wait to get off work and finally jump back into this bad boy. I picked it up on PC but I might get another copy on PS4 just to have a physical version.

Dammit you're not making this any easier.

On one hand I only played DR1 for about 2 hours on 360 so it'll be pretty much a fresh experience for me starting where the franchise kicked off.

On the other hand OTR is the more refined and fun experience with added sandbox and online co-op stuff.

.... grrrrr. Sod it I'll grab DR1 and if it grips me I'll get OTR next week. Phew! These first world problems are killers.
