No.

New patrol area
New social hub
New raid
New arena
New story missions
New strikes
New gear

It absolutely compares to the previous expansions in terms of price.

Not quiet as much as TTK, but considerably more than the first two expansions.
As much as I am looking forward to ROI, your post is making the content situation look way better than it actually is. Bungie takes an awful amount of time to come up with rather low amount of content. It's not a new patrol area, it's the same cosmodrome with some 2 sections added to it, it's not new strikes, it's just one new strike and 2 remixed version of old strike that play pretty much exactly the same. 5 new story missions, one new PvP mode, and 2-3 maps.

Basically it took them one whole year to come up with ROI and it costs $30 on top of the money they make off microtransactios (which was suppose to provide us with free content regularly or atleast big content at once). But most importantly, this is suppose to last 1 year (no I don't expect them to add much for April update..much like this year). In comparison TTK was $10 more BUT at a time without microtransactios and launched with:

-4 new strikes
-2-3 reworked strikes
-8 story missions
-an actual new patrol area
-3 new subclasses
-3 new PvP game mode
-one raid
-9 new PvP maps
-the usual gear and quests which are more than ROI as well.

In short despite only being $10 less and while having a microtransactios system in place, the content we are getting is more like 50-60% of what came with TTK which had no microtransactios at launch.

Now I know you are going to say that it's because most of the studio is working on Destiny 2, and you would be right. But I want to ask if it's what you want from this game i.e. the live team and DLC ream will always be short staffed because the majority is working on the sequel...all the time.

Their engine is inefficient and it takes an awful lot of time to create anything in it. It's the only reason why they had to change fromIthe original plan of two content per year to one slightly larger content per year and also delay Destiny 2 from this year to next.

I really haven't been keeping up with RoI info. Do you need to be max level to play Rise of Iron? IIRC you only needed to be 20 for TTK, and it came with a free lvl 20 boost.

My main is 40 and light level 315, and I've got it pre-ordered. My friend is only level 31 though, and wondering if he can play RoI content with me without the need to level first.

I thought microtransactions were meant to fund future content for Destiny? The price for the amount of content is a complete pisstake. I love this game but struggle to want to support their bullshit ideology of what is value for money.

That it's just extended cosmodrome? Yes it was confirmed a while ago.

That I know, but I was referring to it having two sections added to it, and I got the impression they'd be minor ones from your post.

Just checked Wikipedia, and this is what I found there:
PvE will feature a new zone on Earth called the Plaguelands, marking the first time that there will be two playable Patrol zones on one planet. There will be two Patrol nodes on Earth, one for the original Cosmodrome and one for the Plaguelands. Areas of the original Cosmodrome Patrol zone will be updated to reflect the theme of the expansion, such as weather changes, and players being able to see where the Fallen have breached the Wall.

So, it sounds a bit more than that.

Half the price of the full game? Man, I don't know about that. I think it will depend on how long and how good the raid is. On paper, this feels like a $20 DLC, at most.

True but the vast majority of hardcore Destiny players will get their money's worth. It is the folks who will only play it for a few hours that might regret the purchase but it is not a bad value proposition for the fans or any new players.

I have been playing Destiny weekly since before Dark below came out, i'm so excited for this. I'm still lacking around half of the exotic weapons and a shitload when it comes to armor, more content for Destiny is always a nice thing to see.

Still can't believe I paid $80 for this at launch for a version that was supposed to come with a season pass, and still had to drop another $60 on it to get this and TTK. Such a fudged payment model, especially considering the cost of these "expansions" is nowhere near the amount of content they come with.

Still hyped though.

It did come with a season pass. That season pass included two pieces of downloadable content, advertised, even prior to the game's release, and named as The Dark Below and House of Wolves. To my knowledge, there is no way that you could have looked at an advertisement for the game and the season pass and had a misunderstanding of what you were being sold: the game and two expansions.

Some of it looks great, other parts looks like recycled and reskinned crap.

Dunno how I feel.

For me the reskin feel far outweighs what looks good. As much as I'd like to experience Destiny's gunplay again and see some new-ish locales I think I'll just wait for the sequel. Just going to end up devouring the content in a week and moving on anyway.

I wonder how that would be possible, as it took me weeks to experience everything in The Dark Below and House of Wolves, and they were probably smaller expansions than this.

This was my exact thought. Looks pretty boring honestly.

I'll wait for Destiny 2.
Well it desniny gameply...so it cant be boring. D2 is probably just much more of the same stuff. I hope that it will go full open world. Will see.
Rise of iron looks great. Havent watched any gamplay i just want to be surprised. Lets gooo!!!

For the amount of hours I know I'll put into this... Definitely worth the $30.

I don't really see minor quests and activities as being necessary. Finish the story, the new strikes and raid and you've pretty much seen everything it has to offer IMO. Pretty easy to accomplish in a week or so.

i have a feeling the Raid will be a stinker.
There's basically no content in this and after the great Raid, we're due for another crota.

i still will get my money's worth playing PVP.

So I understand that Rise of Iron will contain one new strike. What does that mean for Xbox One players? Do we get two "new" strikes (with the former PS4 exclusive one), or is the new strike again exclusive for PS4?

I do, and I don't think many players can complete the raid within the first week. Especially, if it demands a higher light level from the current max. Not to mention the Siva Crisis heroic strikes.

? You must not put a decent amount of daily hours in then. TTK was the only update of some substance and that only kept me around for 2-3 weeks. Wish all of this content was originally released with day one vanilla Destiny.

Anyone know of any Destiny 2 details/rumors or what we should expect?

Only that Luke Smith is project lead.

You're going to be done collecting the content in a day. Where's the fun in that?

I did that for the past expansions and regretted it, so I've purposely not prepared as well as I did in the past. Should take me at least a week or two to collect the exotics, which means I actually get a couple of nightfalls worth of giving a crap about the rewards.

My idea of fun might be different than yours. Even after I got everything in TTK, I still play Destiny everyday.

I also run 3 toons that I want raid ready for 9/23 and the following weekend for Trials on 9/30. These engrams will help me gain LL on all my prefered PvE and PvP gear.

You know that engrams are rolled when you get them, not when you open them, right? Or are you just doing that for the cryptarch exp?

The new exotic side arm is dropping from previously held engrams after the patch on 9/8. Even IF, they drop to old stuff, it will be a quick way to gain LL thanks to the new system after the April update.. I run 3 toons and I run the raid 3x and Trails 3x every week.

I do, and I don't think many players can complete the raid within the first week. Especially, if it demands a higher light level from the current max. Not to mention the Siva Crisis heroic strikes.

TTK dropped on a Tuesday and the raid the same Friday(I beat King's Fall 4 days after TTK dropped). Three days is more than enough to get to the required LL with the new 1:1 infusion system.

The only information out there is old leaked info on what was being developed, so it's extremely spotty at best. The Kotaku articles have hit a lot of details spot on in the past though, so it's reasonable to assume some of the locations mentioned will exist in the future. A Europa location was mentioned, a new Mars location including a social space and a raid. The European Dead Zone was in there too, though I suspect maybe that was the early design for the Plaguelands. I don't think there will be anything peeped about D2 until maybe a teaser at the VGAs or PSX, with the full shebang at E3.

Maybe we can just pray for more Schreier articles?

I tend to play a couple of hours per day, from monday to thursday, and sometimes during the weekends (usually on sundays) when I have the time. It took me months to finish the TTK quests, including the previous two expansions. Even the vanilla version took me a few weeks.

I imagine I'd be soured by the game as well if I had bought all the expansions, but luckily I got them for free. So, for 100€ in total for all the content, including RoI, it feels like a bargain to me.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
This was my experience with DGAF as well. Love some of the folks there (Hawkian is THE MAN), but the threads ran so fast that I rarely was able to form a group or get my questions answered.

I'd love it if every community could have it's own separate threads so multiple discussions could go on simultaneously.

Hawkian is fantastic. He explained so much of the road to end game leveling to me. If it weren't for him, I would have given up on Vanilla Destiny much sooner than I initially did.

Agreed and same for me! And what a kind and caring guy to do all of that. He also ran some excellent Raid-ductions and hosted games that really helped me as well.

Thanks again Hawk for all that you did/do!
Holy crap, thanks a ton you guys <3

The OTs can definitely be a real task to try and keep up with. But the community can still be super valuable even if you don't keep up and just stop by to ask a question now and then or look for a group. I do hope anyone who hasn't checked DGAF out yet will at least stop by. I do weekly newbie raids of the older ones, which especially with all the new stuff coming out that will preoccupy everybody can be a great way to experience some of the awesome legacy content in the game in a stress-free way.

We also have a Discord now, which, while it can be equally hard to "keep up with" as the thread if you're really trying, is really great for the immediacy if you have a quick question, want to find a group or just chill with some good folks and shoot the breeze.

If anyone reading wants a Discord invite or any new players have any questions heading into RoI, feel free to PM me!

Love how New Social Area is always put as a selling point.

No one socializes in these points, and they are completely pointless, majority of the npcs are also shared between "social" spaces. They are a waste of development and really are a pain when you have to between missions fly to two different social hubs to turn in a quest via the long flying load screens.

I'll admit. I haven't been happy with changes as of late including Bloom, Ghost Bullets, and ridiculous amount of nerfs to high skill such as ShortGaze and now 1-shotting supers with 1000 Yard Stare, but I still love the hell out of the game. Preordered it for both XBox and PS4 and looking forward to seeing what this expansion is all about.

Also, I wish there were more maps for PvP and sad nothing new came out in Year 2 and Year 2 maps were all designed with Rift in mind. There needs to be more maps with 3s or 4s in mind. And 4's should DEFINITELY be in modes because it's perfect.

I have a dozen exotic engrams, 150 in mark bounties and 200 marks saved up so I'll get a decent start. Sad that they took away the Iron Banner weekly completed bounties though on last week's 2.4 patch.

Hoping the raid is fun and that supremacy will actually be fun.

More than anything, I'm looking forward to playing with my DGAF buddies, the best community ever!

I find this absolutely confounding as well. Why the fuck is there more than one space, and why isn't that space useful in any way? They need to just focus all their resources on the tower and not keeping cranking out these shitty, pointless areas. They need to just start at square 1 with this idea altogether. Every minute spent working on this area was a waste that could have been spent on something to actually make the game better.

They have a pricing problem dating back to TDB. The only new zone that was included in either of those was a social space, and so they should have been $15 instead of $20. You can't price RoI at $20 because there is a new zone and a new social space, but at the same time there definitely isn't half the content of the base game. There should be at least one more strike, preferably two. Hopefully the live team drops a decent update a la the April update early next year and RoI is required as an "access key" for it.

$40 for TTK was the only time they nailed the price/content ratio.

Agreed. It would be better to expand the Tower, instead of making new ones.

I actually just asked Jason on Twitter about the European Dead Zone and if it's been re-purposed as the plaguelands. He thinks no, but has nothing concrete on that.

There are a couple of PvP maps that take place in the European Dead Zone- it's pretty visually distinct from anything else in the game IMO.

This would have a lot of interesting implications. It was also suggested from an article that Rise of Iron started development in the beginning of 2016, so if they were able to whip up the whole expansion, including the new location and new assets in only 9 months, the scale of D2 with all that extra time could be pretty big. That being said, I will keep my expectations in check!

The ROI team is very small, while hundreds of people (and several studios) are working on D2. I expect D2 to be pretty huge.

I mean, Destiny 2 pretty much needs to have the same amount of stuff as Vanilla Destiny did and then some, otherwise it's going to receive some very heavy criticism.

I'm talking

4 Desinations
10 PvP Maps
6 Strikes
20+ Missions
20+ Exotics

Like, all that stuff is basically a minimum, because we've already got the quality of life stuff. We've already got 3 subclasses (I doubt we'll get a 4th), though we may get a new class.

New class is a given I think. Wonder what niche it will fill though.

I think the bigger question is how much stuff from D1 will be carried over? I wouldn't be surprised to see entirely new classes.

Emblems are the most likely class of gear to be carried over. Shaders would be nice too. Armor would be surprisingly awesome. I'd say the chance of weapons carrying over is slim. We can barely even use year 1 weapons in Destiny 1 right now!

btw keep up the good work :)
