Final Fantasy XV TGS 2016 Trailer

Why you believe this? They were showing pc footage for every trailer till last time who stops them now from keep using that pc ver or even pro version for their marketing materials?
Ben Moore from Easy Allies:
I'll add the tweets to this quote.

The TGS footage looked great, save for the really short shadow distance for small bushes and trees. It's a minor gripe, but I hope SE will be able to improve it on the PRO.

Are you fucking kidding me. After waiting as long as we did for the game there's another paywall to get the version that Square Enix has obviously been wanting to target?

It's no secret that the visuals have been leaving people wanting. Especially on the IQ front, the Luminous engine has not been kind to the consoles that we've ended up getting. I'm really hating this sentiment that "now THIS is what FFXV really is!" after all this time, for a marginally better console that costs another $400.

Nah. I'm not gonna play this game with Sony. I'm just gonna wait for the PC version of FFXV and start moving my way to PC exclusivity. I'm anticipating FFXV a lot and the last thing I want is have to play a shitty gimped version because their engine isn't up to snuff.

Or ya know, just buy the normal PS4 version.

The PS4 version in the Dengeki stream didn't look this good. Maybe it will later or does internally, but that's not what's being played at TGS.

This isn't the Pro either, though.

Did he say anything about the trailer though?
You're gonna have to tweet him and ask.

Sony explicitly highlighted every single PS4 Pro footage with a caption during the PS Meeting.

I can't imagine SE would just show Pro footage without any disclaimer or mention.

Well, the reason why people don't give S-E the benefit of the doubt is that they have no problems using bullshots or development PC footage for their trailers.

Sony's involvement in marketing the Pro would deter SE from using Pro footage without any disclaimer, since the backlash over false marketing would ensnare Sony/PSPro as well.

Until further clarifications come forward from Sony/SE/journalists, I'll assume that the significant improvements being reported from TGS on stock PS4 are representative of what we saw in this TGS Trailer.

Would be pretty stupid to show off a PS Pro Version or any other version after the outcry during Gamescom. It's in their interest to show us what the Game looks like when it hits in November.
Furthermore, if a PS-Pro version exist that looks significally better, bad voices might say that was the reason the game got delayed to November.

I sure wonder who the villain is!

maybe they left some clues in the recent trailers, uh-uh

In the FF series the real antagonist is never the obvious one that's introduced first (except in FF2, although the official FF2 novelization actually has Satan destroy the Emperor in hell after his death and taking over his empire on Earth)...

This thread has annoyed me for bringing up something I am getting tired of seeing. Why can't a badly implemented character just be a badly implemented character? Why does their gender have to mean anything? Yeah, Luna is a girl, Luna also appears to be a bad character. Yeah, Cindy's only "character trait" is that she calls herself a grease monkey and is a good mechanic. Why do they have to be seen as a gender and not a bad character. Then suddenly being male wouldn't make them any more bland. Don't get me wrong, I love well done female characters more than anyone. Celes's big scene in the latter part of FFVI is my favorite moment in gaming, and if given the choice, I almost always go for female over male(and not to look at their body, I personally prefer more concealed clothing since I myself hate the feeling of wind on my skin) so would I have liked female characters on the party? Yeah, but that doesn't mean I am going to complain about the ones we get. Let's just face the facts, this is a Japanese game. When it comes to sexualization and what constitutes as a "strong female" a term that is easily becoming one of my least favorite(especially when generic characters like the chick in Horizon is concerned). Japan is more lax on sexuality, they always have been, Japan sees different traits as cool, and more importantly, Japan likes everything to be cuter than we do. We shouldn't be looking at it with western eyes and complaining for not fitting our own definition. Do I think Luna looks strong? No, I hated her in Kingsglaive and in all honestly all she has appeared to have done is cause kid prompto to be the creepiest character in final fantasy history, but I don't really care.
For all we know, this is what Tabata feels is a stron character, we still have seen practically nothing of her, hell, we didn't even know what she sounded like for the longest time. She isn't the main focus of the game, she is part of the story, but it isn't her story. There is nothing wrong with a character serving as a means for another character to developers of it is that other character's story.

And for the whole Stella was better debate, we knew very little about that character. I don't even believe Nomura really liked her that much, that comment was probably just him trying to hype the game. Yes Stella appeared to be on equal footing with Noct, but we don't know the context or the outcome of that scene. Maybe they never actually fought in that story. Maybe Noct refuses to fight her, and escapes, maybe someone intervened. It's pointless speculating what it could have been, it won't change anything. Though if I'm being honest, Stella looked much better than Luna, even her outfit was better, both girls look like Barbie dolls though.

All I see is people trying to make a jrpg not s jrpg. Everyone is overly sexy, and nobody is ever all that well written. Even the best of characters usually are substandard in other story mediums. Especially with anything Gust, Compile Heart, NIS, or Idea Factory throws out. I would have loved a game that finally ditches the stupid anime stereotypes that plague modern Shin Megami and Final Fantasy games, but that is most definitely not the case here. Either way, complaining about characters that appear to be minor is just a waste of your and everyone else's time.

I thought I'd also repost this reply to the FFXV female characters thread to shift the discussion over there, so it doesn't derail this one too much. I hope that's okay, Let'sGoTenjiku? I did want to reply here first, as it wouldn't make sense replying to a comment over there. Gotta go back to being a bit more productive for now (you're a sneaky time sink, GAF), but will try to catch up on the thread later.

This thread has annoyed me for bringing up something I am getting tired of seeing. Why can't a badly implemented character just be a badly implemented character? Why does their gender have to mean anything?

I guess the gender of a character means something because it does? Which is a very useless reply, I know. FF, whilst not perfect, has a solid history with its female characters. The problem with FFXV is that the female supporting cast is quite light on in leading roles, and being the only female lead, poor Luna has so many expectations on her at once. That's why it's so incredibly important to have diverse casts in any medium, because then creators are given more freedom in the characters they can create. If there were more women in lead roles throughout FFXV, I honestly don't think there would be nearly as much discussion on the matter, even with the changes from Stella -> Luna. Luna could just be Luna. If Gladio had been a woman, or Ardyn/Ravus/Iedolas/Regis, etc, less would ride on how Luna is represented. I have a love-hate relationship with Game of Thrones, but it's a great example of how having a large female cast gives you freedom in where you take your characters. Catelyn is a loving mother that is not without her own emotional baggage. Cersei is a horrible, complicated, traumatised human being. Daenerys is a loving mother and vengeful conqueror in one. Yara is a practical, no-bullshit seafaring captain. Margery is manipulative and earnest, but adores her family. The Queen of Thorns hilariously steals ever scene she's in, because she's the Queen of Goddamn Thorns. The Sand Snakes... are a thing. Because the amount of female characters on the show is changing and vast, nothing rides on any of these women in regards to female representation. These women are noble, cowardly, power-hungry, brave, wise, naive, desperate, weak, and powerful. Some are physically capable, some are not. Because there are so many of them, it doesn't matter if the characters embody both negative and positive traits. They can just be compelling characters.

When it comes to sexualization and what constitutes as a "strong female" a term that is easily becoming one of my least favorite(especially when generic characters like the chick in Horizon is concerned).

I do absolutely agree that 'strong female character' is a frustrating, useless term, because it doesn't really mean anything. It's more important to have well-written female characters, characters with their own arcs and motivations outside of the male lead, their own strengths and flaws. Strong Female Character has just understandably become an easy blanket term. Hollywood is always happy to throw it around in interviews in regards to their female leads, and inevitably these characters still end up being prized supporting props in the background. I can see why people are quite wary of hearing 'strong female lead' over and over in regards to Luna.

That Aloy shade, though! It's refreshing to have a bit of a generic female lead, doesn't happen very often.

There absolutely isn't anything wrong with one character supporting another characters story, it's just that FFXV has ended up in a place where all the important characters outside of Luna are all men. Noctis and co, Regis, Ravus, Niflheim/Ardyn. This isn't an issue that's new to the franchise, but on top of this, Luna's motivations are tied heavily centred around Noctis. In comparison, Lenna/Faris, Terra/Celes, Aerith, Rinoa (50/50), Garnet, Yuna, and Ashe all have their main plot motivations very independent of the male leads. To make the issue even more dodgy, in FFXV, we've only got Luna as the advertised female lead, and in the supporting cast we have Sexy Bikini Mechanic, Sexy Metal Sports-Bra Mercenary, Mysterious Assistant, and Lil' Sis with a crush. It's a bit of a step back even after FFXIII, where we had Lightning, Fang, and Vanille in lead roles, Serah in a supporting role, and Jihl as the most anti-climatic villain ever. (Also, Etro, I guess, ha.) I'm obviously only judging the women of FFXV from what we've seen in the advertising, and I'm absolutely assuming there will be more to them than that! I don't entirely dump the blame on Tabata for the issues with women in FFXV, either, as under Nomura Versus XIII was lacking in women from the very beginning. Whilst I do think having an all-male permanent party is a missed opportunity for some interesting dynamics, it would have been considerably less of an issue if there were more female characters in prominent supporting and/or antagonist roles. Ardyn, Ravus, Cor, anyone. Instead, all the expectations - both in-game and out - ride on poor Luna.

All I see is people trying to make a jrpg not s jrpg. Everyone is overly sexy, and nobody is ever all that well written. Even the best of characters usually are substandard in other story mediums. Especially with anything Gust, Compile Heart, NIS, or Idea Factory throws out. I mean, I really only hold up Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy for comparison, as it's such a unique beast in terms of JRPGs. Very few other RPGs have the grandiose scale, and the budget to match. I don't think expecting so little of FFXV because it is a JRPG is fair to FFXV, Final Fantasy, or JRPGs in general. Speaking of FF alone, many of the games in the series have been well-written, with interesting characters with good development. The sexualisation of female characters has never been a huge staple for the series, either. There have absolutely been characters that were designed to be more sexualised than others, but there has definitely been a huge shift from FFX-2 onwards in this direction. FFX-2, The 3rd Birthday, Type-0, Lightning Returns. I mean, Tabata or Toriyama are the common theme on each of these games, but their decisions aren't exactly being vetoed by the higher ups at Square over the years. The more noticeable difference being that FFXV is the first mainline game to really double-down on this kind of treatment with female characters in recent years, as opposed to the spin-offs.

At any rate, this is all absolutely a much, much bigger issue outside of FF, but I think FFXV currently gets the brunt of it as it's such a huge, well-known franchise with a long history and many well-written female characters. For better or worse, FFXV does seem to have issues in this department from the previous entries in the mainline series, and that's why the discussion keeps going round and round. I really like Luna, and will be over the moon (sorry) happily eating any and all crow if she turns out well.

Has it been confirmed whether the UI is fully customizable? Ie remove certain elements and keep others? Or is it a ON/OFF thing (which is pretty useless)?

From TGS demo impressions:

https://forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/2620/impressions-from-the-tgs

" The UI is highly customizable ( not just ON/OFF option ) , you can even customize layout ."

His impressions on the TGS demo:

He isn't a graphic whore but he can't really tell the difference between the TGS trailer and the game (OG PS4) , he just knows that both look good and the same to him (even if the TGS trailer is mainly made out of cutscenes ) .
Only the PS4 version is available over there .
Really smooth 30 FPS according to him , it didn't drop once during the 50 minutes he played .
The sandstorm impressed him (since it is kind of rare in games ) .
Some visual bugs ( noticeable if you are a maniac according to him ) .
Good camera outdoors but quite bad indoors (he can't imagine how they could fix that since many actions games are like that ) .

More about the visuals :
The animations and physics (for Noctis&co and the monsters) are great/amazing and the amount of battle animations is just unbelievable .
Anyone can look like a professional with those kind of animations .
He doesn't like the desert's art direction , looks uninspired according to him (a 100% realistic desert) .

What he found in the options :
The demo is locked at "easy" , the normal mode can't be turned on in the demo .
The UI is highly customizable ( not just ON/OFF option ) , you can even customize layout .
You can also change the controls (E.D controls for instance ) .

The gameplay :
Hits are more heavy than P.D's (it feels good to hit in short ) .
Noctis is really fun to control (outdoors ) .
You can't die since it is always in easy mode .
He saw people casting spells without the pokeball-aim thing (which he hates ) but he doesn't know how to do it .

The car :
Better let the AI ride at this point , it is super hand holding .
Feels cheap next to the other complex features of the game .

Conclusion :
Looking forward to the game and think it will probably be a really good game if the story and the Art Direction are good .
Only disappointed in the Car .
The visuals bugs (collision and pop-in) aren't a big deal to the overall experience .
He is really hoping for and hard mode .

PS4 pro, or regular PS4?

Dear God, I can't hear it anymore... It's in every thread on every page, multiple times. x__X

I think by now it should be clear that all footage and all gameplay videos that is shown to us is either from the Xbox One (Gamespot and Kinda Funny demoed that version) or the regular Playstation 4 (Dengeki demo). The PS4 Pro version seems to be still mostly under wraps. On TGS it was actually only Sony that showed off the Pro version of the game and other games and not Square Enix themselves. All public demos on TGS also run on the regular PS4.

If it is not especially stated otherwise (with a PS4 Pro logo or text) all footage we see of games are the regular version. That is imo the only fair and non-misleading way games should be presented to us from now on.

I counted as much as three different background music tracks.
The one at 11:09 is really pretty and I haven't heard it before.

https://youtu.be/bn5XZCpdAIU?t=11m9s

Unfortunately it doesn't last long because a fight interrupts it.

Oh man, that TGS footage looks a whole lot better. That delay seems to be working out indeed.

It seems they have ported the game relatively late/recently from the PC development environment to consoles. A month ago it looked still really rough. But the more time they now have to just optimize stuff for consoles, the better.

Not sure if it has been posted already, but Liam Edwards from RPG Site posted a video with his impressions for the TGS demo

Impressions seem mixed. He mentions technical bugs, talks about downgrades, pop-in, trouble loading textures, framerate being spotty at times. He does mention that he did not play any of the other demos since Platinum though, so to him the downgrade comes from his experience with that. He also mentions combat feeling tighter, weightier and a lot more fun.
