Civilization 6 announced, out October 21st

Gilgamesh is brotacular O_O

Aesthetically, he seems a head taller than the other leaders, he's got hams for arms, and robust beef sausages for fingers.

Mechanically, he's always there for friends when it comes to joint wars and he and allies share bonuses from fights. No war penalty when declaring war on enemies of allies seems very nice.

Edit: Here are some nice posts for building character:

UK price is showing up as £55.99

Ohhhhhh... That sucks. :( I'm in Jordan (in the Middle East), but I have a UK Paypal, so I tend to get international websites, but still only pay in pounds.

Not sure how Bundlestars treats VPNs. You could try something like VyprVPN to access the site using a US IP, but I don't want to recommend it when I haven't done it myself. :/

Arabia

Leader - Saladin

National Ability - The Last Prophet - When the next to last great prophet is claimed, they automatically receive the last one if they have not yet gotten one. This guarantees that Arabia will be able to found a religion.

Leader Ability - Righteousness of the Faith - The worship building for the Arabian faith is very cheap, and produces bonus science, faith and culture.

Unique Unit - Mamluk - A knight replacement heals at the end of every turn, despite moving or attacking. It's heavy cavalry, so it also ignores Zone of Control.

Unique Infrastructure - Madrassa - Generates more science than the university that it replaces in the Campus district, and it provides faith depending on the campus adjacency bonus.

Arabia might be my new favorite civ. Also, with the NDA breaking soon looks like we'll get the last civ this week too.

Interesting UA. I wonder if it's just straight bad in lower difficulties? Arabia seems like they would have the faith to get an early prophet and just ignore the ability. I wonder if it's better to just focus on something else and bank your faith, get the final prophet free, take what beliefs you get and use your faith bank to just get pressure and religious buildings online way earlier than some others.

Also, I continue to be very impressed by the leader models. I really hope each civ ends up with a few of them and there are a lot more civs in expansions just to see all the personalities.

Basically, as I see it, Arabia has the freedom to take their own pace re: faith. They can spend resources on, say, beakers, then ramp up faith after they get their free GP. So they'd be a war/gold/research/whatever oriented civ up until the medieval age or so, then go on a religion binge now that they get everything for cheap.

Yeah I think they'll be fun and flexible to play. Also the only Civ guaranteed to have every possible victory condition open to them?

Embargo is up 10am EST tommorrow! Quill just posted his schedule for any other fans out there. I already know what I'm doing all weekend.

So press embargo ends tomorrow and Quill will be streaming Civ 6 starting at 10 AM EDT/14 UTC. Unfortunately I will be still at work when it starts, but will definitely tune in/watch when I am back home.

I wonder if the first four DLCs would be only scenarios and maps, because I only need leaders and continents map.

Also, what?

What? Well there goes a sale from me, I don't have an account so was going to make one to purchase Civ but guessing I won't now, weird business decision

Bundlestars has Civilization VI Digital Deluxe Edition for $64. That's about £50 in Paypal converted UK monies, which is the same price as the standard edition on Steam.

It also has the standard for 20% off as well.

Never used bundlestars before, are there any issues with them?

Also, did they announce what kind of DLCs they're planning on releasing? Digital Deluxe Edition has the soundtrack and DLCs, but I have no idea whether I'm even interested in the DLCs.

I've brought a lot of bundles over the years with them and never had a problem. Although I've never spent more then like ~£10 on a single bundle so I don't know if they get weird at higher priced products.

Unless I have missed something, we don't know what the mysterious four pieces of DLC in the DigDel ed includes.

Okay, from the videos I've seen so far I am seriously loving the new tech and civics trees, hell the entire new government overhaul looks fantastic. I also love that scouts get XP for each tile they discover, that's awesome.

All the previews seem very positive. This is going to be a long month wait :( Good news is there seems to be a ton of let's play coverage to watch.

They also don't fold up and die immediately when attacked.

Previews and gameplay.

Thoughts, screenshots, streams, etc. Basically, we have their preview build on our computers at home. I can load the game up right now if I wasn't working.

My thoughts are here.
Thanks for the impressions. I like that Beyond Earth literally isn't mentioned in the article, and the previous game in the series is implied to be Civ V. :P

All the gameplay changes Ive seen seem spectacular. Hyped again.

as someone who has played over 500 hours of civ v I never even finished 1 game of beyond earth
Try Rising Tide. I have over 100 hours of BE and Vanilla -> Rising Tide feels like going Vanilla -> Brave New World in Civ V.

Wow hills seem super strong now, they are a +1 Production bonus to whatever the base terrain is. So grassland + hills is 2 Food + 1 Production, plains + hills is 1 Food + 2 Production etc.
Which is kinda crazy considering that forest can add another +1 production on top of that. You can have a base 2 Food 2 Production (Grassland, Hill, Forest) tile without any improvements or resources on it.

I suspect the base game will be good like Civ V, but I'm really curious to see what happens with 4+ players in online multiplayer.

That was Civ V's weakness for me even a long time after release. Lag would get crazy after maybe 150-200 turns, with no explanation or feedback. Sometimes commands would not register, or would register 10 seconds later. Maybe if it's 4 people on LAN it works great, but we basically had no way of knowing what was going on.

Reading through the previews, it would seem that the majority of the complaints come down to game balance. Religion maybe a bit strong, AI a bit passive at times. The core game systems, aside from maybe diplomacy, seem as strong as ever. Diplomacy doesn't even seem bad, just not as complex and fleshed out as some other systems.

isn't that how hills work before

I'm pretty sure that in V hills overwrite the base terrain and give only +2 Production.

oh wait yeah I now remember, I just realized I was thinking of 2 food due to civil service lol

glad hills is now an additional terrain modifier than an actual terrain replacement
