I'm surprised there aren't more cockpit based games for this thing. I'm all for games that try to expand the VR experience and try to solve inherent issues (locomotion), but cockpits seem like a great fit given the current state of the tech.

I've tried Vive (in a controlled environment). It's cool, but not something I'd call "no compromises". A ton of cables dragging behind you is weird and distracting, and my face got very sweaty after less than 10 minutes of using it - in an air conditioned room. Tracking quality and experience was mostly great though (I had two controller tracking misbehaviours in that short time using it, but it corrected itself quickly as I kept moving hands around).

I think the price difference is too big between PSVR and Vive to justify something that's still not where it needs to be for pleasant, comfortable use. That's my only justification for leaning towards PSVR - and also the fact that I can return it worry-free to Best Buy if I don't like it.

Do you not see the ton fo wires coming out of/into this thing?

PSVR isn't going to be much better in that regard, and it's MUCH worse in terms of accurately tracking both your headset and your controllers. Not to mention the better IQ and performance you're going to get on a PC.

You get what you pay for, basically.

Two of the biggest launch games which are cockpit based are still embargoed which is a bit odd, Rigs and driveclub. Those are two of the best looking be games as well so no idea why Sony doesn't want them front and centre at reveal.

But:
- PSVR is much less expensive so if it has same issues with cables, it's easier to forgive. Also, PSVR seem to have just one cable coming out of a headset, not a whole bunch, like Vive.
- Games are generally not designed to walk around the room so I won't keep tripping over cables. Headset tracking by almost all accounts seem very good unless you turn around, which I wouldn't want to do much anyway because of lack of space and tangly cables.
- Everyone keeps saying your face doesn't sweat nearly as much with this (this seriously weirded me out how quickly my face was sweating with Vive, it was an air conditioned room, and I generally sweat very little)
- I can easily return it for a full refund if I don't like it. It's a total hassle free money back.

Vive is a lot of money for something that still has some pretty notable issues. PSVR hopefully does away with one of those big issues, has some other issues, but it's also far cheaper making compromises easier to swallow. Also, personally I have to play Rez in VR, so there's that.

I sold my Vive. The tech is impressive, but there's just too many things holding VR back at the moment for me. Maybe in a generation or two the problems will be ironed out, the line up won't consist of shallow experiences and the headset will be smaller.

PSVR looks to be more of the same, only with less impressive technology and tied to a closed system. Definitely not what I am looking for.

Yeah, granted, I haven't tried any VR headsets yet but if I would get one right now it would probably be a Vive just cause I don't have a PS4 and do have a VR capable PC. But the PSVR stuff looks a lot like the early Oculus and Vive tech demo stuff with a slightly nicer layer of polish on it. At the very least on something like the Vive, you have a lot more smaller indie games where you have developers figuring stuff out- all the weird shenanigans in RecRoom or a shooter like Onward. That's mostly why I'll probably wait for the second gen Vive- get better hardware and probably developers have figured out some best practices for certain types of games by then.

They should just play Rec Room.

There's a cigar on the table, that's what you're supposed to use the lighter with.
You can light the cigar and that's it, really, and it's the most reasonable thing to do in that situation.
I'd argue not wanting to feel immersed and doing dumb shit actually hinders immersion, but that's me.

If the game immerses you well enough then yeah you will play along. But in VR the immersion breaks easier, if you are not buying it or the game is boring you will just fuck around, same as in any interactive scene in games.

It's a real challenge for developers to keep people immersed since every second of a VR story is interactive unlike in traditional games where you have cut-scenes.

These are early games and demos and the devs will make mistakes. The bar for game stories will have to be higher for VR.

In the end these guys are trying to entertain, this isn't a let's play, they don't have to follow the rules of the game. If he feels bored with the game I would imagine he feels the viewers are as well (and trust me I at least was), he made the right choice

I don't know if I'm supposed to crash into those obstacles that make me go slower in this time based video game.
