I like the voice acting, I don't think I could play a whole game like this with Japanese voice acting.
Yeah, I agree. The voices are fine to me because they sound like real people. While there are many accents, that's to be expected of English if they are planning a wide variety of characters and NPCs. While some accents may seem exaggerated, there's videos of anyone with any type of accent as their normal voice.
Besides, compare this to Final Fantasy Spirits Within, and there's not that much difference in delivery either if are talking about that and not the accents. There were some kind of corny scenes in Spirits Within, and Spirits Within all used well known names from the Western TV and movie industry. How about FF13? FF13 used a lot of well liked and well known VAs but most people still don't like the story or the script.
People can like either English or Japanese but it's silly to say English voices are bad when they perfectly sound like normal people to me.
There are many voices and many accents out there for real people. Sure there may be some a bit that seems extreme but sometimes it's not unusual. In either case, whether it's a VA doing a voice or accent or not, as long as it sounds something you can hear from a normal person, I'm fine with it.
As for whether the VAs can do the job on FFXV? Well, they show emotion when the script calls for it. They sound like they are having regular conversations. They sound like real people.
Some people complain about how a character's design looks unrealistic (for example) but people complain about voices but the voices sound normal to me and that's what matters. I can understand people complaining about accents or something else about the voices but there are so many different types of voices people have. Even in specific regions, there may be people with wide variety of voices.
People may not like the script or the personalities but I find the voices to be fine. They aren't much different from any other English related media. People can like Japanese over English but I think arguments for English voice quality should be compared to other types of English voices and delivery rather than English compared to Japanese.
The VA for Jim Raynor (from StarCraft) is actually using his regular voice. For Deus Ex Human Revolution, Adam Jensen's VA is also using his regular voice. I mention those two VAs because they have distinct and unusual voices but those are their natural voices. For FFXV, these VAs are doing a voice for most of the characters but I can really hear these voices in real life just the same, so I find them fine.
