Final Fantasy XV first 45 minute gameplay video (final build of the game)

I was in some kind of blackout about this game, trying not to get hyped after waiting that much.

Just checked at Gamefaqs and it seems its scheduled to release 29th November. Is that right?

Kind exciting to see this game getting released ten years later it was announced, specially cause it was the game I wanted the most back then.

The combat system is less complex than even a Dynasty Warriors game and I can't imagine it remaining entertaining for the 60+ hours that a Final Fantasy title lasts. You just pick a weapon, mash circle, and hit square when the screen throws up a distracting prompt to "PLS BLOCK NOW" that seemingly never stops happening. Maybe this press A to awesome stuff is what they're going for and my wanting more interaction from the player is out of the norm, but all of these extended gameplay videos are killing my excitement when I want to like this.

Did you get to play the Platinum Demo? If so, take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-ANQvMkXg

Anyone who did play it will instantly understand the kind of interaction that is needed to pull it off. It's not super high execution or anything, but it's definitely not as simple as you're thinking.

Weird graphical issues on that one.

You find exactly the same issue with screen space reflections in hundreds of other games. It's a side effect of that particular effect.

Platinum demo certainly doesnt have sharp image. Dont know if Duscae was even blurier (never played it), but PD was very rough.

In motion Platinum Demo was very jaggy. That's what I meant by sharp. Because it wasn't full HD these jaggies still felt kinda blurry. Episode Duscae however had a really soft image as you can clearly see in screenshots. Back then I didn't like it but now I actually wish they would get back to it. But since we have only seen some videos and no direct feed screenshots of the final build who knows for what antialiasing and post-processing solutions they went for in the end.

Don't you know? "Comat isn't turn based? Must be hack-and-slash garbage"

..... /s

What bothers me about it is the condescending tone people usually have when they complain about it.

Not liking what you see is fine, most videos really do have people holding O and nothing else, not even experimenting with weapons (doesn't help that the game gives A+ for Offense for anything you do), but it sucks that people post from their high horses, saying shit like "I guess I'm expecting too much from games these days, press A for awesome is enough for most people, I guess, I'm just too good at combat games", and in this they only show their own ignorance of not only this game's combat, but of combat systems in general.

ThougtsofSpeaking (IIRC) just by reading the airstep description said "cool, this sounds like jump cancel". By reading a single ability he was able to think about the potential it opens for the game's combat, especially aerial combat. Then you have people who watch someone pressing the same button and just assume that's all the depth there is to the game. You can also just mash /\ in DMC, you know?

Not that this game doesn't have its own share of combat-related problems, mostly the camera and responsiveness, but I'll never understand why people keep going straight for combat depth as their first criticism. This only shows how much they suck at it, given we have a playable demo already with many of the final game's combat mechanics, not how little the game has to offer.

And sorry, Coffee Dog, I don't mean to personally criticize you or anything, it's just something that people keep posting on every thread about the game. You look at the HUD, you see 4 available weapons at the same time, you look at the skill tree, the different systems like warp, point warp, warp strike, roll, phase and etc, and just because the person playing doesn't use them that much, you ignore all of it and interpret what you see as everything the game has to offer? It doesn't make any sense.

Jesus, can't say I like the goofy art. Clearly an alternative American state, with overtly anime haircuts and goofy emo atire, voice acting is pretty cringe worthy too. But I must say I'm surprised how seamless the battle system and exploration is, more what I'm used to from WRPGs, happy they've ditched turn based battles. A good sign, I generally stay away from JRPGs but this shows promise.

they fixed something that annoyed me to no end in the previous footage

when they are pushing the car, they talk to each other, but there was a massive gap between their replies to each other.

now they're closer together and they've added more lines. :D

edit: THEY STILL DON'T TALK AT CAMP. WHY? you hear every other sound and their lips move.. it irks me!!

Gotta admit, the new build has piqued my interest. Though, the boring combat system is still making this a very very tough sale for me.

I guess I have to wait for more impressions/videos.

They got rid of that weird vaseline look. Much better.

Looked at a few before and after shots.

It's like they wiped away an entire layer of gunk on it.

Damn. Looks great. I cant wait.
Ok, this wasn't actually how the game looked in-game in person right? There is something very wrong about the Gamespot footage as it continues to look like blurry crap (not talking about improved textures though). They need to get a new capture device.

I continue to be baffled as to how anyone can look at this combat and find it boring.

This.

There is a reason there are like a bazillion of gifs of FFXV's combat out there. It is anything but boring and there seems to be literally infinite possible actions and interactions with the party.

Stop being smart-asses please.

I played the combat (Platinum Demo) and found it extremely clunky, unresponsive and boring. Now, some of that might have been the result of shitty performance and they could have improved on other aspects of the combat in the time between Plat demo and final version, so that's why I'm waiting on new impressions instead of dismissing the game entirely.

Also, the gifs do look amazing. But there were other amazing gifs before the Plat demo, yet the combat managed to disappoint me. So, what I wanna know is that whether the game plays as amazingly as it looks.

Have we ever seen link strikes that costs 2 or 3 link strike "bars"? If the ones that cost 1 look like this how will the ones be that cost 3?

Or will you simply be able to updgrade them so they do more damage?

Someone (recently,I forgot who, from what website) who played the actual game said something along the lines of
completely disregard the plat demo, like it never existed.

Techncially not link strikes, that's when you're nearby a party member and usually (always? I'm not 100% sure) after a parry.

But, the combo moves you're talking about, no, we've only really seen the same moves and they all cost one bar so far.

The platinum demo was awful compared to the Duscae demo that came out a year earlier. I'm still not sure why they released it. It doesn't represent the game at all.

Well, I certainly hope that you are right. Cause the idea of playing something like that for 50+ hours does not sound appealing to me at all. Actually, the entire demo bored me to no end and destroyed any excitement I had for the game prior to it.

Yeah, that demo did nothing but harm. I can understand just about anything, but I'll never understand what they were thinking with that demo. It almost killed MY hype.

In the end, it's just a subjective opinion on how much fun you think the combat system is. Most of these responses are being overly defensive in response to what Coffee Dog which I'd argue is objectively wrong. Haven't played the game myself so maybe it could be boring after awhile, but I have to question what people think is fun if what these clips of combat vids look boring.

Now you're saying your opinion is based off your time with the Platinum demo, but did you attempt stuff like this (as another user posted earlier)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-ANQvMkXg
I mean sure, you can single button mash and probably defeat enemies that way but you can do that in most other games too. Doesn't make it fun or it doesn't give you the highest ratings. Or maybe you're just not into action games. I'm curious on what type of games you find fun just for comparisons sake.

I can't stand how people hide behind their age to justify whatever complaints they have about games. It's inane, but, at least it's hilarious too.

Just say you don't like something and stop pretending there's anything factual or objective about it or because you "got old". It's not your age. It's you.

I'm also in my 30s, have been into FF and other RPGs since the dawn of time and SHOCKER I think FFXV looks good. And guess what - and please, sit down for this because you may fall over as this person is older than me but has 0 history with the franchise - MY MOTHER THINKS IT LOOKS COOL TOO.

*world implodes all over itself*

Hmmm. It's almost as if your age and history is entirely irrelevant...

Anyways, any footage of the pause combat functions out there? Don't really want to spoil myself more but I was over the moon when I heard they added that but haven't really heard much talk about it.

I wouldn't mind if Platinum Demo got the P.T. treatment, to be honest. There are a lot of people who aren't following the game closely, and it's acting as their first taste of the game. They should take it down.

Oh right. Just saw that video and the green quest made me "link" it with the green combo moves. Weehh.

I mean to be fair the platinum demo also had next to no available abilities and weapons. Even that combat system could have been a lot more fun with more variety.

So is it confirmed the better looking footage isn't just PRO or high-end PC footage.

Because it just seems odd that 'refinement' all of a sudden just adds in more foilage and other graphical features.

Yea ;/

When you look up XV on digital atleast on psn for me it stills easily connected with the platinum demo. And with people saying to disregard it, the demo should be no more.

Who knows maybe they released it on purpose, maybe they knew the combat was missing something and was looking for constructive feedback? Probably just my dream world though.

My tinfoil hat theory on that one is that they did it on purpose to piss everyone off so everyone follows everything to do with this game like a hawk, only to pull the carpet out from under our feet at slap us in the face with awesome.

But, in reality, I think the reason it exists is because they wanted to give us all a little something to play with and they let a tiny team of people slap something together. Even Tabtata was downplaying it before it was released.

They should just release Duscae to everyone.

As I guy that hated Platinum demo and just played Duscae recently (thanks to a fellow gaffer), I can say Duscae was much better, even if the combat was incomplete.

I still have my problems with the combat, but It ain't a musou that's for sure.

I agree that releasing Duscae 3.0 with the more finished battle system including magic would've been better. At least it gives an idea how the actual game plays.

Yes, they confirmed it's the normal PS4 version. It's crazy how people went from "this looks like a PS3 game" to "no way this isn't the Pro version" in one month :D
