Please correct me if I'm wrong but this game on PS4 was 900p at 30fps right? Is it 1080p now?
It's dynamic resolution, 900p - 1080p.
Pro version should be solid 1080p (minimum) by all means.

Thanks for the info, as long as it keeps a decent 30fps I'm ok with it being dynamic. It's dynamic resolution, 900p - 1080p.

In the end, it's just a subjective opinion on how much fun you think the combat system is. Most of these responses are being overly defensive in response to what Coffee Dog which I'd argue is objectively wrong. Haven't played the game myself so maybe it could be boring after awhile, but I have to question what people think is fun if what these clips of combat vids look boring.
Now you're saying your opinion is based off your time with the Platinum demo, but did you attempt stuff like this (as another user posted earlier)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-ANQvMkXg
I mean sure, you can single button mash and probably defeat enemies that way but you can do that in most other games too. Doesn't make it fun or it doesn't give you the highest ratings. Or maybe you're just not into action games. I'm curious on what type of games you find fun just for comparisons sake.
Also, I think I should mention that I've only played the first game in KH series and found that to have an extremely boring combat system. So that might be part of the reason that I didn't like the combat in Plat Demo.
Well, I did say that I've only played KH1, so you can't really fault me for feeling that way.BRUH

This is the reason why people always bring up KH combat in regards to 15's deficiencies in combat. Its on another level.

Let's compare when we're seeing the battle system at the endgame. We've literally only been shown what it's like in the first hour or so of the game.Great graphical update, looking forward to seeing how the final product shakes out

There may be some people who got the impression that this was still a combat system based on KH2's from all those years ago when Nomura brought it up during Versus time period.
But my view is that this is no longer Versus and NOmura is not on the project. This is 15's combat, and a mainline numbered FF title. The combat was bound to be steamlined and more RPG based for maximum user penetration. Its nothing to get mad about like some people are getting.
Well, I did say that I've only played KH1, so you can't really fault me for feeling that way.
But damn, that looked fun.
This is sublime

Would you say the first hour of KH2's combat is fair for judging the entire game's combat system?
I just hope it looks better than the regular version on my 1080p TV.
No Monster Hunter? I've realized part of your issues (and other who have said something similar) sound astoundingly similar to what people who dislike Monster Hunter's combat. Which that Iron Giant fight kind of invokes a similar feeling (a giant, mostly unflinching monster). Not that I'm saying the controls/handling is the same as Monster Hunter (a difference being in MH, you would likely fail if you mindlessly hack at the monster). But yes, the hit/impact feedback was not as good as it is in something like Bayonetta or DMC and I believe they've improved on that according to the latest impressions. To be honest, comparing that video to the gifs in this thread, should show you why I felt the combat in demo was boring.
I remember one of the things that bothered me about the combat in the demo (besides the clunky feeling and unresponsiveness of controls) was the obvious lack of weight behind Noctis's attacks. The combat mostly felt like you were hitting a piece of paper with your swords as you couldn't really feel any sense of weight coming from your attacks that were hitting the enemy. Now, the big sword was better in this regard but it still should've felt weightier. Also, warps felt extremely clunky and didn't always work the way I intended them to. This was really really really bad during that rainy night fight that I had with the big guy.
At any rate, yeah I tried the demo and didn't like what I played of it. I'm happy to hear that the combat might've been improved in the final version.
Considering my username I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic about your last question or not. But, yes I do play and enjoy action games. In fact I play A LOT of them. DMC, Bayonetta, NG, GOW, Souls, Nioh, Tails of, Yakuza, Dragon's Dogma, MGR and even simpler stuff like Musou series or SK.
Though, I didn't came to demo with the expectations to see any of those titles. I actually have played (and enjoyed the combat of) Lightning Returns as well, and people compared FFXV to that, so I was expecting something more in line to LR with bars and stuff.

Re the questions about why they released Platinum demo when it isn't a good demonstration of final gameplay, I think it's pretty simple. It plays up the charming, low key elements of XV. Kid Noct, cute Carbuncle, simple combat, etc. In other words, it wasn't made to appeal to most people on GAF. It was made to appeal to kids, younger teens, mainstream non-hardcore gamers. And lots of those folks liked it. My little kids LOVED Platinum demo, but didn't care to watch Duscae.
Now, it still might have been a mistake on balance, but they're trying to market to a LOT of niches with this game, not just us. GAF can be an echo chamber, just like any enthusiast site. It's useful to periodically shake of the solipsism and remember the rest of the world.
I'm sure it will. In any case, it will be locked at 1080p as opposed to the standard PS4's dynamic 900/1080p resolution and that's already a plus.
Your sure this game will have more than 1 Pro mode? Any inside information on that?
I would have figured a single checkerboard rendering mode was all they would do
I'd also argue that Platinum Demo was a major victim of feature creep. It was announced at the same time as Duscae as just being a tech demo, but as time went on they kept adding new areas and other random detritus they felt was presentable. All to make it stand up as another product in the FFXV Universe.
I'd say the real crime was that they called it the "Platinum Demo" which is a highly inaccurate title. "Platinum" implies it was something polished and premium and "Demo" implied that it was a representative demonstration of FFXV. I could've gone for FFXV Dream Tech Demo, or something of that ilk. Anything that made it clear that it was a preview of some random tech and mechanics they were working on for XV.
The Polygon player never sprinted once, I don't think. But at least that one also seemed better than SE's own staff.Oh wow, watching someone competent play this game like in the Eurogamer footage, has me all giddy inside. Everything looks so smooth and seamless once you get the block and parry timings correct.

That's fair. I just think it's silly to compare end game combat of one action rpg to the first hour of another. As much as I love of what I see of FFXV I don't think it'll be able to touch KH2:FM's combat at it's peak level (that boss fight / critical mode). In fact no game I've played or watched has been able to beat it yet.
Regardless of that FFXV's combat system clearly has a LOT of depth to it. Let's hope they give us some well designed boss fights that push us and their combat system to the limit.
"What I want to do is to examine the humanity of the characters in this game. This is not going to be a fantasy world in the traditional Final Fantasy sense. Rather it's based in the world today with all of this world's ugly issues. There's this mainstream tradition of Final Fantasy games and, in Versus I'm trying to propose new vision of how a Final Fantasy game can be. The game's going to be more human than the science-fiction caricature we so often see. It will focus around current world events - in that sense it's darker."
This game must be one of the most unstable hype levels jrpg of all time. The wait is running in a wet sand clock!
For those that are waiting every day for the launch, i found an interesting channel that upload 5 to 6 minutes videos called FFXV Countdown Retrospective, the upload is daily with a lot of interesting info about how this game has changed since 2006. Totally worth it. Who's want to give a shot here it is: Final Fantasy XV Countdown Retrospective

In one of the videos they show an Eurogamer interview to Nomura from 2007 where he say:
Yeah i remember this, and i think those elements are still in XV: the fight for resources (Niflheim invading for the crystal, Lestallum using the Astral Shard energy), the contrast between technology and nature (Niflheim, especially after the move from human soldiers to androids, vs Lucis and the whole Plague of the Stars), the impact of bigger nations on smaller countries (the whole Tenebrae/Solheim thing from Kinsglaive), personal interests again public interest and actions for the greater good (King Regis in a nutshell) and so on.
Plus in general the characters (or at least Noct and Regis so far) are depicted with flaws and conlficts from the very beginning, instead of being one-sided characters that develop only after hours of gameplay.
All in all, i think these are the "dark elements" that the game was aways supposed to be and still has. At worst they're just being portrayed less dramatically and in a more nuanced way, that's everything i think the game might have lost in the transition.

I updated the OP with the new vids. Did not expect Bomb to be in the game. I always thought they would be too goofy for the XV world.
Nothing fortune about it!! Nagas, bombs ugh..Yeah, same here. Fortunately, they're going crazy with all of the nighttime enemies.
Yep, according to those leaked documents it's mandated.

Another gameplay video. Bombs are apparently in the 44ish minute range, but I'm at work. So I'm watching the whole thing instead of working. I'll get to the bombs, lol
