Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

I'm pretty sure 3D got dropped in the move to 4K Blu Ray disks, so if they were to include it, it would have to be on a standard Blu Ray.

That's what I mean, for the price include the existing 3D version.

Many of th TV manufacturers are dropping 3D altogether, so I can't see 4K 3D movies being well supported
If a 3D version of the movie exists, and you are selling a version of the movie with Blu-ray, digital, UHD, etc, just include the 3D version. Not asking them to make more 3D movies, just allow me to buy one copy of a movie with everything included, like I used to with the combo packs for 3D movies.

Holy crap 45 bucks! Why is it so expensive? It doesn't even come with the 3D version.

P.S. I hate that most UHD re-releases don't include 3D versions right now. I think I've only noticed one so far that actually does. I don't want to have 2 copies on my shelf at this point with a 3D Blu-Ray sitting next to the UHD version. You'd think that for 45 bucks they could afford to include it... =P

Best buy has a sale this week on 4k bluray, buy one get one 50% off. :)

One of the bigger Finnish stores around has what seems like a very good sale on a 50 inch Samsung 4K TV (http://www.gigantti.fi/product/tv-j...5XXE/samsung-50-4k-uhd-smart-tv-ue50ku6075xxe) and I kinda feel like buying it. Is the HDR Pro they've listed 'real', proper HDR, though? And does anyone have any idea on the input lag with this thing?

The TV would mainly be used as a gaming screen and a second monitor to my PC, so a high input lag in particular would be a deal breaker for me. HDR wouldn't matter that much since it's a pretty cheap TV. I'd just buy a new, better one in a couple of years when I actually have some HDR content to play/watch on it.

e: someone in the Q&A section is claiming it's the KU6000 model, going by the fact that it's 60hz and the PQI is 1300. KU6000 seems to have a low input lag with game mode on. Hmm.

Looks like LG got the picture (no pun intended) regarding HDR in game mode.

"Just got off the phone to LG UK and they have confirmed that they will be releasing an update to enable HDR in game mode within the next couple of months! They couldn't tell me any more specifics, such as whether it is likely to effect input lag, but it is satisfying just to know they are working on it. Fingers crossed :)"

This is an incredibly helpful post. However, I have some followup questions.

I work at a popular electronics retailer wherein you are able to get the best buy for your money, and my coworkers have told me that the Vizios we put out for display don't last nearly as long as the other models we display, often failing within several months. Has anybody else experienced these longevity issues, or is that solely based on the intense conditions of display TVs?

If they really are working on the HDR/4K gaming input lag, that's really promising. Honestly, I'm a console player and not a framerate savant, so I don't see myself noticing it that much anyways, but the piece of mind of knowing that I'M bad at games and that it's not my TV dooming me to suck at Overwatch would be helpful.

I sent a service email to Vizio Support and I'll call tomorrow to ask.

I think if I go Vizio, I'll stick to 50" and not 55", because the stand on the LG I have right now but am going to return (it has a distinct graininess in dark pictures that can not be fixed in settings and which has puzzled my coworkers who professionally calibrate TVs) barely fits on the surface it's on as it is.

If the Vizio had built in smart capability, a tuner, and didn't require Cast, I think it would be a far easier choice, but for some reason the thought of wasting $120 on a Roku Premiere+ that will become obsolete in 4 months is really bothering me. Anyone know a cheaper 4K HDR streaming solution?
Hrmmm... I wonder which retailer you work for? :P

I've not read or heard of such a poor build quality with this current line of Vizios. Maybe in the past? Vizio is making strong gains in improving their brand and the P-Series is their flagship line (let's ignore the R-Series, for the sake of argument). Hell, they won me over! I never thought I would own an LCD, first and foremost, and I've always thought of Vizio as a "Wal-Mart brand." After all the buzz about the P-Series I decided to jump on one, with the intent that if it wasn't comparable to my Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-111fd, then I'd return it. Well, I still have the set. :-o

Do you think that the Roku Premiere+ would be obsolete in 4 months? I don't own a Roku, but they seem to have lots of app support. For me, when it comes to streaming, I use ChromeCast for Netflix. This way I get HDR in DolbyVision, which really is much more stunning than HDR10. For Amazon HDR, I use my Samsung UHD Player, which supports Amazon's HDR10 feed. For Vudu, I ChromeCast, again so I get DolbyVision. Anything else, like YouTube or PS Vue, I just choose whatever console/device I'm on at the time.
You may have actually talked me into the P-series now. I want a 55" though as it will work best for my setup, and I've been worried about the IPS panel. Is there really that big of a difference?
I can't go by any personal experience, but users on AVSForum that own the 55" have said that the inks aren't as inky black as the VA panels, but they are still quite good. Their reasoning is that the FALD helps tremendously. Also, see the first reply to your post. A bias light is a fantastic idea, no matter the panel. However, I wouldn't suggest an overly bright room for the P-Series. They shine a whole light brighter (pun intended) in darker settings.

Doesn't turning off all picture processing options simply turn it into a quasi-game mode already?

Thanks that is great news!!

If they had said "within the next couple of weeks", it would feel more believable to me that they're actually working on it.
"Months" could mean "maybe some time next year, have fun waiting, suckers."

And there it is. I knew contacting LG wouldn't be a waste of time.

Hello thought I would share an interesting story about my OLED adventure.
So I'm a college kid and shouldn't be spending money I don't have on OLED displays but I caved and purchased a used EG9600 55" off amazon for $1640. I was happy thought I got a great deal. So the seller on amazon contacted me the next day and apologized but he said that display was no longer in stock and offered me a brand new C6P for the same price as an awesome apology! So I happily accepted but the story continues. So the display comes about a week later and its the most awesome thing I had ever experienced. I was trying silly things out like playing smash in 3d (input lag was terrible) and then just normal gaming, when all of sudden my entire screen glitched and the display just shut off and wouldn't turn back on. So I contacted LG and they sent a repair guy out who replaced a few parts in the tv and he was unable to fix the glitching and the display still cut off after a few seconds. So he figured something went wrong with the screen at this point and I was either going to be offered a replacement screen or a brand new set. So about a week passed and LG's RA department contacted me asking for proof of purchase. I sent them my receipt for EG9600 and explained the story. So about a week after this they contact me to offer me a refund. I really wanted the tv so I asked can we just replace it. So apparently the C6P was out of stock so they offered me the E6 as a trade off. So after many weeks of weird mishaps I have a brand new 55" E6 on the way for $1640. Has anyone else experienced any odd glitches with their 2016 OLED sets?

You lucky bastard.

I picked up a 60" Samsung KS8000 from Best Buy this weekend. While watching HDR content, in this case Daredevil, I noticed a small constant strobe from an LED. This was precisely in the bottom rightmost corner. It as incredibly distracting and combined with some other factors (box had been opened, one of the legs wouldn't secure) ended up exchanging it for another of the same model.

This is still present, but far less noticeable on the newer set. Since Daredevil is the only thing I could find on Netflix that is HDR and not cropped, I can't be sure if its just the show, or the TV itself. I have not noticed it on any other 4K content between my game consoles, Amazon Video, Netflix, YouTube, etc.

Anybody have any idea what this is or any suggestions for things to try for comparison?

Aside from this, the TV is really great and hope this doesn't serve as a deterrent for other people interested in it.

WTF

Thrice this happened now: my Xbox One S restarts itself when HDR Video is playing is showing up upon boot. Samsung KS8000 (US Number).

I will manually update my TV to Version 1141.0 see if it helps. Really shitty experience.

Got the Vizio P75 C-1 delivered today! Hooked up the UHD Bluray player for a bit of Pacific Rim in HDR.. HOLY CRAP. The black levels on this set are amazing! So used to edge light bleeding from previous sets, and blooming of white text against black backgrounds.. No more. Quite the sight to behold, and MAN, do the colors POP off the screen. My wife, who couldn't care less about technology, remarked how amazing it looked. Can't wait to see more!!

I ordered the Vizio P50-C1 last night for delivery this week. I'll give it a shot, despite how much it hurts going from a Pioneer plasma to a Vizio .. anything.

Really would like an OLED and would have gone that route if the 2017 sets were out.

I had to choose between an IPS and VA panel for my family TV, which is located in a reasonably bright room where people view from the sides.

I have a Pioneer Kuro for gaming an and old Pioneer Elite rear-projection that's been kept up for critical viewing. I like my blacks and motion.

The IPS was my choice for family viewing and it was absolutely the right call. The blacks are better than gray, but they are nowhere near what I'd want for a home cinema room. As long as you have a decent amount of ambient lighting for most viewing, and/or wide angles are important then it's the right call. When I do watch at night it makes me sad.

You can always add bias lighting if needed.

Thanks for the input. I do have a couple of flush mount lights on each side of the TV, so maybe the IPS panel will work out well.

A family member is giving me a 65" Panasonic plasma, a ST50, so I think that will tide me over for a while despite it being an older TV. I'm thinking about moving it into my sunroom for viewing at night though, and I really want a 4K HDR set at least by next fall for the Scorpio. I'm now between a 55" P-series or 55" B6 if I end up getting one this year. I'm going to see how firmware updates over the next six weeks have improve HDR performance and input lag. If there are no significant improvements then I may just have to wait until next BF.

I noticed this too, but only in Daredevil, it seems something to do with how it was mastered maybe?

I felt the same way. I even hooked up my Kuro Elite Pro-111fd right next to my P65-C1 when I first got, just to make sure I wasn't downgrading. Suffice it to say, the Vizio passed. :-o

I guess part of the thing that bothers me isn't some feeling of low quality, etc. It's more that I feel Vizio is at least partially responsible for the race to the bottom that the TV industry went through. I mean I'm glad that they are producing some quality displays now, but I can't help but think what we'd be watching if Pioneer (and others) had more incentive to remain in a healthy market.

The market was dictated by the world economy crashing. They couldn't sell tvs that were $4,000+

What are the chances that Panasonic's next OLEDs might have a competitive price range against LG's? "Low" to mid end models like the B6? So far there is a 65" TV at 9000€ and a 2017 prototype. I am hoping that competition will decrease OLED pricings.

It might a hair, but don't expect them to magically become affordable ala LCD. It might be a $200 difference, but not $2,000.

Decided to buy a tv next month. What seems to be the better set, KS8000 or the Vizio P series? I noticed the P series was all the rage a few months ago but I see a lot of people on this thread talking about the KS8000

P series is currently sub optimal for HDR gaming, since the dedicated HDMI port can't receive HDR signals and the other ports introduce 60+ ms of lag. I think the TVs are more or less equal outside of that aspect, however.

What the fuck. Buy a lottery ticket, you lucky bastard.

You're bad luck on that C6 is just that, bad luck. Never read that problem and I basically read every word on the Internet on LG OLEDs when I was researching them this summer and when I finally bought one last month.

I have a Samsung 60" Plasma (PN60F5300) and the image quality is great, but I'm tired of the lack of brightness and the reflection... :(

I don't know what to do. I don't want to spend money on TV again but the low brightness of the screen is really annoying.

Man, my 2009 Panasonic Plasma was a glare/reflection magnet. Couldn't use the damn thing during the day.

That's why I love my E6, one of the best anti-reflective filters I've ever seen.

Click through the past few pages. I've posted extensively about the P-Series. You should be able to glean a lot more information from them.

I have to close the window and doors to use it :|

And if I were to get a new TV now I have no idea which model I'd get. I live in Brazil and everything is ridiculously expensive here. All I know is that I wouldn't need a 4K set.

If you absolutely need a TV without much glare, then a Samsung KS TV with "Ultra Black" moth eye tech would be an option. For example the KS 8000 that is recommended by a lot of ppl.

Why not the Sony X850D? Best color, motion and processing of all three options. Android OS is choice.

Finally have my settings finalized on my E6. Really takes a lot of tweaking to get it just right, moved over to ISF Bright with a combo of settings online that work for me.

I'm using ISF Bright as well. It's bright enough without causing any discomfort during long viewing sessions.

The next firmware patch is supposed to fix HDR gaming so I'd hold off before making a purchase.

Sams Club offers the P series for a good price and has 90 day return period. In light of my broken display, I decided to trust that it gets fixed and pull the trigger. In other news, now that the new display is on the way, the Pioneer that hasn't worked for a second these past 3 weeks is working great again.

And they are not the only company. We should see some updates soon about input lag from at least one company within a month or sooner.

Care to share your settings for :
-Blu-ray
-Netflix
-gaming (game mode )
-hdr (movie )
-hdr (game mode )

If they differ ?

I'm trying to follow online guides but damn why everything is on warm 2 it looks so yellow
I mean in life white is white ? Blue is blue ? Not with warm 2 :(

Best buy has a sale this week on 4k bluray, buy one get one 50% off. :)

Great deal, though unfortunately Pacific Rim is so sold out online that you can't even attempt to order it anymore, and no stores within 250 miles have it in stock... :(

Oh also, I was looking at the 4K movies and damnit, once again The Martian 4K and 3D versions, with no bundled version. Each version individually has its main 4K/3D disk, regular blu-ray copy, and a digital copy, but no version with all the versions bundled together. Oh and all the digital copies with 4K movies are apparently just regular HD not 4K.

Two downsides are edge lit and only support for HDR 10. The later being a deal breaker for me. Not bashing Sony or Samsung.. They make great sets, but to spend that kind of money and have an HDR format (dolbyvision) unsupported seems a bit ridiculous.

Many of th TV manufacturers are dropping 3D altogether, so I can't see 4K 3D movies being well supported
According to thedigitalbits, TV manufacturers are dropping 3D support until they have auto stereoscopic sets ready (no glasses 3D) because that's what they think will make 3D sell. I saw a video demoing this tech years ago-- where multiple people could watch 3D on the same tv. I'm sure we'll see a return to 3D sets and movies in a few years. They are gonna need something to sell us on after 4K and HDR anyway.

Another issue with KS8000, the remote keeps turning on my Xbox One!

Any idea how to fix this? I think it's possible it could be the smart input (TV recognizes the Xbone and even has a custome Xbone controller as the source icon) so I'll try just changing it to the generic "Game Console" source and see if this helps.
