Ok now that it's coming in(and will be soonish for everyone), I kind of want everything I need before it gets here, so I can turn this into the ultimate indie/VN platform. How does memory work on something like this, and how much can you ultimately get?
 
Theres a Z8750 version up for auction in Japan currently at 40,000 Yen.

Apologies for not getting any videos out yesterday. Bringing the device with me to work today, I'll prepare a bunch of material to take video later tonight.

I did benchmark the default 8750 version though. When I get my 8700 (I have a single digit order ID on IGG) I'll benchmark that so we can get definitive results.

Also I have a strong feeling there is some extra power we can sap out of the device. When I benchmark the memory, speeds seem kind of low and when I check with CPUZ it doesn't even see the ram let alone if it's dual channel.

When I go into the bios, it looks like it's set up correctly including dual channel mode being explicitly declared. The one variable that is enabled is 'memory scrambler' which as far as I've read improves power and obfuscates data on memory for security purposes.

Ideally I'd like to disable memory scrambler and test memory bandwidth again, but I'd like to know how to clear cmos before making any changes.

Yep, I'm around 2000 myself, which means if they are only sending 100-200 a day that it could be anywhere from 2-4 weeks before shipping. Oh well.

What sucks about this is that if the production batch is finishing and they send the units to Geekbuying/etc in bulk upfront, it still would have been faster to just wait and order from them. Kinda lame.

Yup, I'm pretty annoyed as well. I definitely would've waited and ordered from Geekbuying if I could go back in time.

I'd say at this point GB orders will go out earlier than 90% of IGG orders, yes. Unless something has changed that we don't know about.

Seriously throw them some steam cards or something. I been watching vids of people playing several games on it but I'm still curious on the battery life
 
Well, my brother decided he wanted one as well and he said he doesn't care if he gets whichever one ships later, so I just put in an order for him on Geekbuying.

~2000 on IGG and ~450 on Geekbuying (who still says they are shipping on the 20th, so we'll see). Interested to see when each of these arrives.
 
Just ordered on geek. Was 445 still 445 after maybe it doesn't refresh every unit sold.

The keyboard on that thing seems like such unnecessary clutter. Like it was designed 10 years ago or something, in the pre-iPhone era. Windows 10 has a built-in virtual keyboard, why not just rely on that?

With that said I hope this turns out good. I want one but I'll wait for first impressions. This could end up being very shoddy quality. If it had backing from an existing established non-Chinese hardware company I would order one immediately.

The GPD XD has nothing in that space so I guess they wanted "something" there

My main beef is the placement of the L3 and R3 button like I get that they couldn't do click able sticks but to put the button further away than before?! Come on guys

Also, lots of older PC games require keypresses while the game is still running. Good luck with that virtual keyboard overlay popping over your screen.

They've already had a countdown, at the end of it, 40 units have been shipped, this time no idea how many units they will have, indiegogo backers hopes none, but geekbuying are old partners of gpd, no way they are going to let them wait until november.

They could have used that space to make the controls less cramped.

Right now this doesn't look ergonomically comfortable. To use the game controls you have to hold the unit pretty close to its hinge. In fact the more I look at it the more I'm worried about that aspect.

Dinodirect a week or two ago said they were getting a batch the 20th so possibly.
IGG's latest update says this:
The first batch of the second mass production of GPD WIN will be finished October 20.

Back on the 8th Evildragon (maker of the Dragonbox Pyra and a official GPD reseller) said they had already started production for the backers so its possible they will have finished the production run for the IGG backers by that point and whatever remains of the second batch will go to the resellers.

Something that just popped into my head is how is GPD dealing with the Japanese IGG backers?
From the interview with Wade Wang roughly a month ago we know roughly 60% of the IGG backers are from Japan and from the Makuake update assuming I'm reading the translation right they have not yet finished dealing with Japan's stricter certification requirements so are they just gonna ship them anyways to the Japanese IGG backers or what?

I wouldn't worry. In my brief time with it, everything felt fine.
 
Hey guys,

I just did a clean install to build 1607, never got prompted to enter a CD-key and Windows promptly activated.

I've made a video detailing the steps, but it's basically:

1.) Download Double Driver and make a full backup of drivers in compressed form

2.) Download Windows Media Creation tool and flash the iso to USB (this can be done on any computer or the GPDwin itself)

3.) Go to advanced settings and reboot off of USB disk

At this point your screen will be in portrait mode as that's the default position of the screen.

4.) Delete all Drive 0 partitions

5.) Click Next

6.) Windows 10 start-up, configure to specifications (I disable everything) Enter your username click continue

7.) Load Double Driver portable and your compressed driver back up. Restore everything. (Double Driver will auto check things that need to be installed)

8.) It invokes the Windows Device manager to install drivers.

9.) After that's done rotate screen 270 degrees (which is how you want it) and click disable rotation from Windows Notification menu.

10.) reboot

11.) To get wifi working you need to replace a txt file in your driver directory. GPD made a batch file that you can just run as administrator, I'll re-upload somewhere else so we have it.

12.) reboot

13.) Ta-da! You're on a clean install of anniversary edition.

How I do I go about checking my place in the IGG line?

Never mind. In the over 2200 crowd. Well, it's a shame I won't have it for travels this year.

This is the same processor in the Surface 3 that only gets 19fps in Dota 2 with everything disabled with low shadows... This is at 768 resolution, so not much different than 720...

It can barely run one of the least demanding games that are currently popular, not sure what you are trying to claim... Especially since they are showing what appears to be a MOBA in the image in the OP... That just seems like a lie to claim you'll be able to play those types of games on it.

First up the Surface 3 throttles hard so its limited by its heating issues and greatly reduces its ability to play games, second resolution does make a difference and the screen is much smaller on the GPD Win, less screen means less shit to render and makes games easier to play.

I mean look at some videos of people testing games or even benchmarks once others get theirs, but really doesn't bother me or anyone if you do or don't get one people know what their getting into we don't need to convince you and I don't care either way.

Those heating issues are tied to that Atom... This device is even smaller, so even less room for heat dissipation than the surface 3. Just look at the fact they had to drop to the 8700.

Also, 768 is not much more than 720p. It might be playable at 540, but good luck trying to read anything.

Don't know what to say man already know what games its going to play and the device will run most things I have my expectations in check and most do everyone else, basically why is this a conversation?

You might want to check some actual gameplay videos first before you claim anything tbh.
 
Interesting factoid. The Fan with the manual switch is directly connected to the display. So if you have the display turn off, the fan will turn off as well. It doesn't need to go into sleep mode.
