Overwatch Sombra ARG - No one is ready for Sombra [Up2: New Model Leaks]

See, the stuff that just recently happened with Lumerico would have been GREAT as a part of the ARG... if it weren't for that massive 2 month wait in between.

They should have started this thing wayyy later. If they pull something like this again, I hope they do it at least a month before release and they update the ARG every week or even more often.

for the amount of money they make off of cosmetic micro-transactions, the rate at which content has been released for "free" has been pretty weak. the amount of time they've spent hyping this single character continues to make me think that it's going to be slow going in the future, and i don't know how much of the fanbase is going to stick around with it this slow.

Exactly. They should have given us access to those email accounts earlier, and then actually have emails pop up over a few weeks for us to sift through as things carried on.

Also, they still haven't actually given us any info about Sombra...

I've been thinking about this recently. Now that's it's been five months since the release and we only really got one character and one map, I'm still surprised I'm so invested in the game that I play it daily.

I actually don't think they've been milking the microtransactions so much either - they've been surprisingly tame with skins so far, even with a 20+ million player base and a true gaming phenomenon on their hands. Seasonal events are tough work, I'm sure, but it weirds me out that there just isn't a little bit more of everything in this.

What if Sombra wasn't a new character at all and just a redo of Symmetra. They said big changes were coming, lol

My theory has been that Sombra isn't a character herself, but she gives modified kits to existing robotic heroes like Bastion and Zenyatta. I think we might see Sombra-Bastion, Sombra-D.Va (The mech being the only part 'hacked'), Sombra-Zenyatta, and fingers crossed we get a Sombra-Genji where Genji verbally fights it but he can't stop the hacks.

lol, I was just thinking this morning that what if Sombra is just a Bastion palette swap, i.e. Red eyed bastion with aoe abilities rather than concentrated fire.

That would be fucking amazing, but Blizzard would never do it.

But we've already seen the character from the leak.

I agree that the content drip is pretty pathetic given the justification for the Loot Boxes on top of the full priced release. I really hope we see some more interesting modes and a better roll out of characters in the future.

Dude. That's some Skysong-level stuff.

The biggest stretch is the idea that Symmetra will be part of the reformation of Overwatch under this cover up organization. We never got the sense that she cut ties with Vishkar for a heel-face turn. So if it is the case, it'll be interesting to see how and how far they're willing to push the lore going forward. It'd be really fascinating if they used that as an opportunity to tie into her rework.

im ok with a slow roll if the content is as strong as the vanilla. but eichenwalde is kinda weak really doesnt live up to the other maps in visuals. the design (routes, sightlines) is ok, Ana's cool though.

So they seriously just had the countdown for 2 months only to then complete it, do nothing, then a few days after start more bullshit which, once again, ended in "lol wait some more".

WHY are people even bothering with this shit? Seriously, nothing anybody does is going to do anything, we won't find out more about the character, we won't unlock it, we won't get it early, we all have to wait till blizzcon like we've been saying for months.

The support for the game has been a crushing disappointment for me. 1 character and 1 map since launch isn't what I expected at all. It seems like more effort is spent on limited time outfit sales, like the Olympics, than on the game itself.

And even those assets are farmed out to other companies.

Hoo boy, if people only engaged with ARGs in return for stuff, I'm pretty sure 0% of them would get solved. It's like being surprised most geocaches don't actually have anything for you once you get there as well.

Don't discredit the two unique game modes and micro-maps that went with them.

Honestly, considering how many of these loot boxes they are probably selling I was hoping for a much better post-release content support. Ana was a nice addition and all but this Sombra tease have gone on for way too long and I've lost all interest in what the fuck she may be now apart from "Mexican hacker". So really, all we've seen so far in this regard is 1 new character, 1 new map, two forgettable extra modes that are limited time only anyway and bunch of special event exclusive costumes you have to buy through their skinnerware system of RNG boxes.

If they would just announce the bloody character and then go on to talk about what their future plans are, will there be new maps? New main game modes? Stuff like that, then I wouldn't be this cranky.

Loot crates also pay for the animated shorts I think. I'm almost certain. Thankfully I don't buy them, and I'm not invested into the game. I'd request a investor meeting with blizzard. More characters and map/mode focus. I guess people are wild about the lore mess, so maybe that is slowing them down too. Do the major groundwork of the lore after the characters are out.

I agree. I love blizzard and I was expecting a lot more. I'm happy with what we have received but I was expecting a faster pace. Maybe a new hero every two months and a new map between them. It's just been saddening.

I suspect that the release of Sobra will be related to or will come in company of a major update with maybe new modes and whatnot. Expansion maybe. As far as I remember they didn't planned paid content, not this year at least.

Who said this?

Sombra did.

But as Salamando said, there has been new developments. Three new emails on the Lumerico CEO account: one from the chief of security about escorting their executives, one about a money transfer for the "Juarez case" (don't know if we heard of this already), and one of them from Vishkar. Both companied are making a deal it seems.

edit: Sombra published some news on Lumerico's news page too.

So we can all agree that the emails are a way of Blizzard communicating to us while in the spirit of the arg right? I saw a comment on the Reddit thread and reading back through the email it seems fairly obvious now.
