Splatoon Switch: hairstyles, pants, new clothes, almost definitely sequel

If they are adding some of these changes for Splatoon and Mario Kart "ports" then I can't wait to see what they'll add to Smash 4 NX, assuming it's coming too.

I think it's kinda weird to talk about this as something that might be a "port." If we're seeing new customization options, new assets, and a new map, that's a different game. It's certainly not going to cross-play with the Wii U game so it's effectively a different game anyway.

oh yay, it got unlocked

sorry about that, itchy trigger finger

ha, no worries!

as far as the port/sequel thing I just figured that even if it was a port more content was a given. that was part of what made splatoon so cool was the content rollout with maps and gear so I assumed that they would want to give NXSwitch owners that part of the experience as well.

I do think it's a sequel now though

I really hope they add cosmetic equipment slots to this. I hated how.. unfashionable I had to make my inkling in order to be effective.

More importantly... what about the controls? It was shown played with only the pro controller without any obvious gyro movements.
Thank goodness.. Now only if they made static aiming and not the terrible reticle they use now where it changes based on where the ink can land.

I just want a reticle in the center of my screen at all times.

Pls, gyro is part of what made Splatoon catch on so fast, especially in Japan

I think it was the quality of the gameplay and it's appealing art/sound design over its gyro controls.

And btw, I wasn't referring to that anyway. I'm talking about how the reticle moves up and down on the y axis, and how it changes depending on where the ink can land.

gyro controls were a huge reason why splatoon caught on. made the game infinitely more accessible.

I would have still bought the game personally but I probably would not have sunk in nearly as much time if not for the gyro-assisted aim. it's just a better solution for aiming, especially in a game that relies on quick reflexes.

Seems like a sequel to me. Models are of much better quality and the lighting and textures are also miles ahead of the previous game.

Better is subjective. I'm glad we can use a regular controller.

This is definitely a sequel. The model customization options and animations (seriously, the animations are a huge tell) alone kinda push this into a different territory vs. "port". Then the scale of the new stage just bats it right out of the park.

If this doesn't come at launch, I can see it coming May/June 2017.

If it DOES launch in March with the NS....my god, This + Zelda = $$$$$$$

I'm really glad they expanded the customizable options, eye color and gender were fine, but being able to fully customize the look of your inkling is what I always wanted.

I hope different hairstyles are unlocked similarly to gear, I want as many unlockables in Splatoon 2 as possible because I felt like I got everything in the first one too quickly.

The ability to play this as a single screen experience is interesting. Doesn't look like there's a mini-map either, so the map is probably a full-screen toggle.

Or maybe there isn't a map at all, and you touch the main screen while in mid-superjump in order to pick a landing location.

Either way, the game is going to be quite different to play.

I really hope they add splitscreen or some sort of 2 (or more)player mode for online, like MK8. This game would be awesome if you could play it locally with friends (the current 2 player mode is very poor compared to the other modes).

Why are people worried about Nintendo dropping gyro aiming? From the few seconds of gameplay we saw the camera movements looked exactly like Splatoon's and that'd be something hard to pull off with only stick controls.

I will cry if there are no gyro controls in this. Seriously. It is far and away the best FPS controls I've used on a console or maybe even ever. It was perfect.

Agreed. It has to have it. It worked so well, why would they just leave it out?

Does anyone know if Switch even has gyros? Nintendo did a good job showing the main premise, but none of the other features.
