[SPOILER THREAD] X-Men: Apocalypse

Just watched the film for the first time, and wtf with the special effects.

There are moments in this film, that boarder on the Mummy Scorpion King. The last half of the film actually, feels like watching a Final Fantasy CGI film, with some real actors randomly being inserted into said cgi film.

It starts out pretty decent, but it turns into an animated film at some point. I actually enjoyed most of the movie, it was the effects that killed it for me.

It turned into a cartoon. And cartoons are fine, but this was not a Pixar film. Wow what an amazing failure.

The script, the acting, and story I do not have much of a problem with.

But wow it just looks like shit. Like Spawn levels of shit.

I guess they hit their budget, and just decided to go with it. It would have taken another 100 million or so to make it look like a modern film, and they decided to cut their losses.

Magneto's story is embarrassing.

Fassbender did not look like he was particularly happy to be there. Can't blame him given his arc was "lose family. Turn evil. Turn less evil?" Once you remove the "I'm family" scene with Quicksilver there's no pay off for Mags.

He just decides "oh, I'm good again."

Watched the movie and liked it, but Days of Future Past was better for me.
Best thing about this movie was Quicksilver and that great scene! It was amazing!
I think Oscar Isaac wasn't a good choice for Apocalypse. I like him, but Apocalypse needs a different actor.
I've a question about Mystique. Haven't read lots of X-Men comics, but I remember she was a bad character in animation and original movie trilogy. Maybe not a really bad one, but wasn't good too. But in these new series she is one of the best characters in the good side! Is this only happened in movies or she is good in comics too?
And about Mister Sinister. I remember a few moments of him in animation and he was powerful, but how powerful exactly? I mean is he a good choice after an overpowered character like Apocalypse? I took a look at wikipedia and he has a really big list of powers though! Should we expect another villain with ability of mind control? :| I hate these things.

Enjoyed it a lot. But it sounds like Singer's ready to take a break.

They should get George Lucas to direct the next one, and at the end of the credits have him give the middle finger to the camera.

I watched this last week and enjoyed it more than I expected, Quicksilver´s scene was awesome and he was my favorite character in the movie. Apocalypse was...not as intimidating as he should´ve been. I would´ve expected him to be much, much bigger, bulkier and menacing. I wish they had kept the white eyes.

That said I had fun in a lot of spots. Like I said, all the younger mutant stuff was pretty fun and Quicksilver's scene matched if not topped the previous one.

I hated the QS scene. They tried really hard to top the previous scene (because they knew how popular it was) and in my eyes failed miserably. Reminded me how Legolas had to do 'better/cooler' acrobatic tricks each movie he was in. That also failed.

I loved First Class, i liked DofP, but this one .... it was just a series of scenes an setpieces. Felt super disjointed.

And so much (bad) CGI. The film didn't connect with me whatsoever, sadly. :(

Just watched this last night with the roomie. We loved it. It wasn't the best X-Men film but it was FAR from the worst. I'd Rank them X-2, DofP, First Class, Apoc, X1, ------ X3. I would have liked to see more Mall Mutants, and more of the Horsemen being used for something. But the emotional beats for the characters were all there. And it also gave me a scene on film I've wanted to see since I was 12 and just starting to read X-Men books: Wolverine's escape from the Weapon X facility. Finally got too see him go berserk and just ... Yeah. I LOVED that scene.

This year has turned out weird as hell for me with movies. I've disliked movies I was sure I was gonna love: Captain America: Civil War, and loved movies I was sure I was gonna hate: X-Men: Apocolypse and Batman v Superman.

Wow. I am stuck on a plane and forced to watch this.

It's so tryhard it hurts. Their 80s schtick is forced, awkward and inaccurate. The dialog is horrific, especially Apocalypse. "Come and See!" - cuts to Auschwitz. SO SUBTLE.

However, the Quicksilver rescue scene would have been amazing were it not for the fact that it's a scene for scene remake of Fry's coffee powers from Futurama. I still enjoyed that whole segment, even though it was tonally completely out of place.

Anyway, I'm still watching it. They just got defeated by the biggest jobber in the MCU, Stryker or whatever he's called.

Help.

Recently saw the movie, can I just say that James McAvoy's acting in this is phenomenal? His delivery of "Eric.. I'm so sorry" after finding out Eric's family died was filled with emotion.

And any emotion to be had from that line was immediately snatched away once you realize its the same retreaded conflict as the last 2 movies.

But I certainly felt the same way as you 2 years ago for the DoFP plane scene and Charles Charles tet a tet. Might a cried during one of those scenes

He and Fassbender were both too good for this movie

really, I've liked/loved every x-men film so far. this, though, was absolutely tragic. it's exactly the film I would have wanted 10 years ago when I didn't know any better other than the 90's cartoon. it was amateurish and doesn't deserve the cast it has.
