Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

What about HDMI cables for these things. Do you need a newer one specifically for 4k HDR TVs or is any regular HDMI cable just fine ?

This will probably be the tv I buy next year. Or it's newer equivalent. I currently have a 42" Panny Plasma in my game room.

But I'll go to my brothers store and buy a 43" Bravia, PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio in one hit. Fuck it.

I'm torn between this model 49' and Samsung UE49KS7000 (KS8000 in US) where I live there both simillar price. Any recommendations?

How good is 4K on the 49"? I would be coming from a 50" w800 but unfortunately I can't fit a 55" so 49" would be my limit.

What are the odds of this one going down for black friday ? Heard it's the "lower end" models that usually get deals and this is apparently on the low/entry level for 4K HDR. Likely sale ?

The ONLY place I can find it now in Australia is Sony Store direct at full $1700 AUD RRP... eh.

That's a lot of money to throw down when its been $1000-1200 on special on Ebay in the past. Only problem is they aren't getting more stock there and Sony Store never have sales.

Why the hell aren't any of the 8000D models in stores here? They clearly manufactured some for Australia specifically if they are on the AU Sony Store.

Samsung KS8000 is the better television at 49" due to the fact it can do upto 500-1000 nits of sustained brightness for HDR/HDR10 specs whereas the X800d can only do around 400 nits. The X800D has a vastly superior smart os platform with Android 6.0 tv but if you have the money, the KS8000 is the better television.

4K is amazing. The W800c is no slouch but the X Reality Pro processor is slightly improved in the X800D. You might see more judder with cable/set top or internet sources at 1080p since they went down to a 60hz panel for the x800D whereas W800C is 120hz native. But 4k looks phenomenal and HDR does make a difference. Android tv is also upgraded and faster. Ultimately this tv allows you to have 4k and HDR at a very affordable price.

No. You would possibly see the X700D series go down first as that is the entry level one. This is a midrange television. I mean you will see prices drop and sales, but the X800D is not retailer specific pricing in NA. Meaning retailers cannot discount, only Sony can. So if Sony says cut $100 off the price than all retailers will. But Best Buy cannot just take $200 off to clear stock on their own. It is why this model is stocked so lightly. Maybe each store you go to will have 1 or 2 units in stock only. That was the case here. When I bought mine, best buy didn't have any, London Drugs had one etc.

I was afraid of this, still waiting though. Hopefully i can snag one for a sale price.

Seems to be. UK has some weird models and namings. Also interesting is calling it motionflow 400hz which means it is a 100hz panel (120hz native for us NA users). Could be a retailer mistake because would make no sense to have a 120 hz native panel in an obscure version for a UK retailer.

It is definitely supposed to be the XBRX800D though. Same bezel and stand, triluminous display meaning wide colour gamut, HDR etc.

There was some sort of EB Games code that bought the price down to $799 for the 43 and $999 for the 49. Look at the Aus GAF thread and see if anyone has one of those codes still, not sure what the terms were but it was only about a week ago.

The Sony eBay store also has deals regularly enough. I payed $999 for the 43 and am very happy with that. Don't pay any more than that! Just be patient!

The 49" model you linked to has an IPS panel which has a lower contrast ratio than a VA panel but better viewing angles.

The 43" model of the same TV you linked to has a VA panel which has a better contrast ratio but more limited viewing angles.

This has been what's been wracking my brain. Can't decide which one sounds like the better option. Want to try out the VA panel and see the angles in person for myself but it's been unpleasant trying to find a good way to pick one up to try out with a decent return policy here in canada.

VA always better. Viewing angles are the biggest red herring for a lot of people. IPS has better viewing angles, but unless this is a 65" television and in a living room where people will be viewing beyond 30 degrees to the sides, it literally makes little difference but in the end you are ending up with a television that has worse contrast and black levels. Something that will affect your picture no matter what forever.

ViewingAngle30.jpg

Here is an image of 30 degrees to each side. The majority of us will always be watching within this zone. The X800D does have limited viewing angles, but I don't see much to any change around 25 to 30 degrees to side. Beyond 35 yes the picture becomes soft and the coloes start to wash out. But again, unless you plan to have this television in a giant and bright room where it will be a central focal piece, go for VA over IPS. Also, there are no reticulating mounts for dirt cheap prices. You can easily mount a television and then turn it so it faces straight if you're sitting elsewhere or lying down etc.

The Ks7000 is a much better TV. Higher colour gamut much higher nits and better HDR reproduction. HDR gaming lag on Ks7000 is much lower no sony set will catch it ths year.. For Sony sets you go 900 Min but the good ones are 930D and 940D of course the expensive Z9D.. Ks7000 clear choice..

VA panel is vastly superior don't bother with IPs. Ips will only give you better of axis viewing @ the cost of brightness, blacks and contrast.

Right on the rest except the bolded. Sony WCG with triluminous display better than Samsung even with their quantum dot. Compare the numbers yourself on rtings.

Also, Sony beats Samsung in terms of 4k with chroma 4:4:4 pc users for 4k with hdr input lag.

If you have Amazon Prime, watch The Man in the High Castle (HDR UHD)

Great series and great demo material.

edit: Episode 1 seems to be free without Prime through a web browser but I don't know about quality/tv interface availability.

i tried kodi trough the android store on the TV, but it says its in 1080p mode if i do screen adjust in kodi, is there a video player that plays back 4k video from usb? my PC seems to struggle with 60mbps 10bit HEVC even tho i have a skylake 6600k o_o

You should find PC video player that supports GPU acceleration of HEVC playback (you will need to have newer GPU that has internal support for HEVC media encode/decode).

i have a msi r9 390. i dont plan on upgrading yet cause of the crazy prices on a 1070 and afaik it doesnt support hevc, the tv does support hevc decoding tho.

EU prices for X800D variants are so high, such a shame.

Yeah with taxes it's over $1000 for the 43" in canada too cause it's listed at $900. Seeing the $650 price in the OP and it's such a disappointment when you find out what it is for everybody else.

Is there anywhere for lower than $899 in Canada ?

Try to buy from bhp photo video ship from us to Canada

With exchange might hit 1000 still

Thanks will try

Make sure you are using the amazon app from the TV to enjoy 4k and HDR. Another good one on Prime is Red Oaks or Bosch. They look phenomenal.

I don't think you can stream from a browser in HDR and 4k. At least my machine doesn't.

Yeah I spoke to them on the phone and it seems like a good site, but the guy said after import fees it's 737 USD which is around $990, which is a few bucks cheaper than Bestbuy canada (which never has these in stock online or in store) but then if you ever wanted to return it you'd be royally screwed vs a bestbuy or other canadian return policy. It's a bit tricky.

Edit : Just found out the 49" of this is only 300 bucks less than a 49" samsung KS8000. Might as well just save up and get that instead right ?

^ You're looking at the US price. The canadian price of the 49" KS8000 is ridiculously high at almost $2200 or more. Even the bigger sizes of the ks8000 are lower. Keep in mind, with importation, you will see some duty fees as well.

Again, it comes down to budget. The goal is decent 4k and HDR gaming for a low price.

Just bought the XBR49X800D. Found a co-worker who wanted my current 50 inch set for 450$ so in the end the TV will cost me 640$ not bad at all.

Yeah but even after import fees, buying from the US comes to around $1670 CAD for the KS8000 49" and about $1250 CAD for the Sony 49". Even after currency conversion and import fees it's still laughably better than buying from Canada, which is just hilariously bad and I don't know why retailers here feel like that's acceptable.

They literally just had the 43" on sale for $799 through an EB Games promotion. Ends tonight.

from usb? try the built in player first if it doesn't work then download mx player

Where are you guys getting the KS8000 as being similarly priced to the XD800?

The Sony TV is around $800 CAD, while the cheapest KS8000 is around $2200.

I've been looking everywhere online for an answer to this. But i can't back it up. I want to say that its full tho. I'll reply again to this once i get home and double check on the TV.
It has an option to put it in full on the TV. Are there TVs that don't have that feature this year?

Hey Gaf,

Let me ask you guys....

Samsung UN49KS8000 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2016 Model)

$1,097.99

Sony - 49" Class (48.5" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Black

799.99

Is the Extra $297 worth getting the KS8000?
Or put that towards the PS4? pro would cost me $100.

I don't watch UHD movies
didn't find HDR to be that impressive
I only stream -youtube,amazon video, ect when I watch tv or use local channels.
And the tv would mostly be for Gaming on the pro at 4k.

With all that being said, should I just get the

VIZIO - 55" Class (54.64" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - with Chromecast Built-in - 4K Ultra HD Home Theater Display - Black

$599.99

The Vizio looked really nice when i picked one up at Costco. With the extended warranty they gave the tv was such a good deal. But the deal breaker was that the control to calibrate had to be done through an app. My tablet and my phone didn't support this app. So i returned the TV. The TV looked nice, but i think the X800D is an upgrade. Granted, i want to push 4k and HDR through my streams when supported, and just got an Xbox One S just to be able to get some 4k native blu rays.

I do most of my gaming at 4k on my pc too, but keep my desktop res at 1080 for ease of navigation. But all games look really nice.

WIth the Pro it'll be nice to have some 4k games, and HDR coming to some other games i can revisit.

I didn't think much of 4k and HDR. But now that i have seen it on streams, and with Shadow Warrior 2 it makes a big difference.
