ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
So GAF, what FF OST (or OSTs) do you believe to be the strongest? Note that please stick to the mainline FFs and you can choose more than 1 OST.

Personally:

1. Final Fantasy VIII - Has wide range of battle themes, boss themes, and town themes to love and remember. Not to mention it has one of the best renditions of the FF theme.

2. Final Fantasy VI - Very memorable tracks such as Terra and Celes. It also reached its heights when Uematsu composed the lengthy, complex, and grand Opera scene and Dancing Mad.

3. Final Fantasy X - Though admittedly I like a fewer songs here in this OST, these few songs completely standout and make the entire game worth remembering, such songs like To Zanarkand, Besaid Island, A Fleeting Dream, and Battle with Seymour

Nowadays I could easily say my favorite is XIV's, though I've never met an ff ost I didn't like.

But damn VIII and XIII were really good too.

For me XI's OST remains the strongest and most consistent and for me definitely the most memorable.

I could post tracks from YouTube but you should do yourself a favour and just listen to all the tracks available. They're all great.

8. It's not my favorite FF (it's good though!), but the OST is goddamn amazing.

13 as a whole isn't a great soundtrack, but it has some of the highest highs, like Saber's Edge and March of the Dreadnoughts.

If we are talking piano versions - 10 by a wiiiiiiide margin. That entire album is phenomenal.

Oh man, this is right up my alley. I always listen to these over and over again while studying for school. Despite that I am going to be in the minority and say that XIII-2 has an amazing soundtrack, based on it's diversity alone, and of course the masterpiece that is Crazy Chocobo

Sticking to a more classical sense, I would opt for 6 though. Something about Terra's theme, and also the opera scene still give me chills.

Nothing will ever come close to VI, but I do like VIII an awful lot. Seeing Balamb Garden theme live at Distant Worlds was delicious, and we had Eyes on Me sung at our wedding so that's got a special place too.

And nothing wrong with XIII-2. This series is insane, easily the best music of any franchise. Really hoping XV is decent in that regard.

I think VI is the most consistent and thematically satisfying, followed by VIII.

(XIII also deserves a shout-out for its sheer diversity and complexity.)

All mainline FF OSTs are great imo, but this...so much this.

My vote goes to XI too.

The superior tracks come from the even numbered FFs

IV, VI, VIII, X, XIV

XV to have a garbage OST confirmed

Final Fantasy VIII is nowhere near my favorite Final Fantasy game, but its soundtrack is killer. It does an extremely good job at conveying the atmosphere and tone of the game's near-future setting. None of the upbeat battle tracks are rocking guitars or medieval flutes, but instead have a very synthy, bubbly feel to them. The town and city tracks convey a sense of peacefulness mixed with a sense of modernity that help portray their progressive state. And when things start to get weird, so does the soundtrack.

VII has my favorite individual tracks with cliche answers like One-Winged Angel and Still More Fighting, or less appreciated tracks like Oppressed People or Shinra Corporation, that do a fantastic job at setting a particular mood, but VIII is the best overall package. There's not much from the latter part of VII's OST that grabs me quite like its earlier tracks do, whereas VIII's stays consistently good.

Even though I never got past Disc 1, it's gotta be FF8 for me. Those tunes just feel so powerful for some reason when I listen to them.

Second is probably FF12 followed by FF6.

It's 6.

Almost every song is incredible, evocative and there are tons.

Then 7. Then 10. Though, I feel like my favorite parts of those scores are somewhat derivative of what 6 put forward.

4 has classics, but doesn't move me in some kind of near spiritual way like what you would get from March to Narshe or To Zanarkand do. 8 is underrated.

My favourites, when taken out of context, are VI, VII and VIII. However, IX's music tops is among my favourites in-game and thus tops both VI and VIII for me as it's coherent with what's happening instead of overpowering it, but yeah it's kind of disappointing compared to the other soundtracks when taken out of context.

I think VII's is the best. Uematsu really outdid himself with the unexpected chord progressions and alien samples that come back throughout the soundtrack in very stiff, almost military sounding rhythms that really fit the world (with Shinra's military presence). Stuff like Buried in the Snow and It's Difficult to Stand on Both Feet are great examples of this.

Uematsu's few tracks in XI are great too, and while the rest of the soundtrack is surprisingly good it doesn't reach VII's heights.

I never liked X's though, only To Zanarkand really stood out for me and I disliked nearly all of the non-Uematsu tracks in there. :(

I'm not too fond of X or XIII, but I think those have the strongest soundtracks in the series. VI and VIII are great too.
