I mean, what's done is done. Hillary Clinton was a reasonable candidate. Albeit I think Bernie would've been better, the true mistake was the attitude of the loud Clinton fans afterwards. The "we don't need Bernie voters! They need to do as we wish without question!"-attitude. I said time and time that Bernie and Hillary fans need to work together and that they should act that way instead of looking down on the Bernie fans, ridiculing them instead of going a step into their direction. I don't know if it would've changed the results completely, but it surely wouldn't have hurt to be welcoming to Bernie fans instead of condescending.

Pretty much, yeah, there definitely wasn't enough coming together there after it was over.

Sadly no idea if even that would have necessarily changed anything since he couldn't pull off a win there either.

so it begins

america teh power has become voliatile

america the greatest is a threat

everything controlled by one party one party that thinks of itself only. fdr abraham lincoln didn't fight for this. here we are. world I hope your happy. putin I hope you're happy. don't worry putin we will reign destruction over you with or without trump. thats a promise. you may have won a favor with rrump but we will destroy you. t

Maybe it's time for the democrats and the establishment to take a good hard look at what the base wants from the party?

The "base" that you speak of wants to be made to feel like everything is the fault of "outsiders". That everything is the fault of minorities. That America was great when "we" had all the power. I'd rather the Democrats not pander to that.

I seriously cannot believe it.

The signs were there through the night, it played out identically to Brexit. I went to sleep and woke up to the same bad news. Christ.

I am legit terrified at the what the future holds.

I'm ashamed to be an American right now. What an embarrassing tragedy for our country and the world.

It's not just you guys. First Brexit, now this. I believe France and Germany will be next. Humans were a mistake, we are nothing but trash. Climate change fuckery can't come soon enough to wipe us out, and having deniers in powerful positions will just accelerate the process.

I am feeling a big disappointment in the human race for years now, believing in something good is useless, as a collective we are shit.

No, you can not say that. Wilders was a Trump supporter and afaik he is or was leading the dutch polls recently. Please can we stop constantly generalizing entire populations/demographics/races already? And even if it might seem that way, "we" as europeans are in no positions to call the americans dumb or whatever, when this populist right-wing trend started here way before it manifested in the US.

It's all about echo chambers. If you mainly surround yourself with people that have the same opinion like you, the things you believe can suddenly become universal truths.

Still waiting for you to "educate yourself" first. You've been asked multiple times now to bring actual evidence to your argument, not just what you've pulled out of your ass. It's on you at this point to find them and come back, don't go pushing it others because everything you've brought to the table is easily refutable.

It's not my job to educate you; I'm just a guy who visits this board. Do you wish to expand your horizons, or are you content to swallow all the garbage you've been fed?

This is your choice. It's not my responsibility. God knows, I've spend the last eight years boggling at the bullshit that's been going on. I've earned a break.

America GAF.

I can say, with utmost sincerity, that the whole of my country (Holland) is stumped by the choice your fellow countrymen made.

I can not believe I woke up to this and I also can not fathom how the minority, who Trump viciously attacked throughout his campaign, must feel right now.

A despicable human being has been made the most strongest figure in the world. Unbelievable.

Oh can it with this bubble mentality. You guys have the monster known as Geert Wilders and more than enough Dutch people would support Trump too.

Oh no? Say that to the coalition with Paul von Hindenburg. Ok, i can say it the other way around.

Coalition with Paul von Hindenburg? Please what?

Hindenburg was President, back then he was the one to announce the Chancellor. Hitler was in coalition with Franz von Papens Centre-party.
NSDAP got 33 % and was biggest fraction in the elections of 11/1932.
Hindenburg had to announce Hitler to chancellor, what he refused first, despite the fact the NSDAP got the most votes. 4 months later he did it.
Also, after Papen said "we can control Hitler better if he is Chancellor". Worked out pretty nice right?

The first is bullshit you pulled out of your bottom and not "fact". Putin is not some maniac who wants to conquer europe just for fun, he's a little boy who wants "respect" and "power balance". So if anything the situation will relax if Putin & Trumps relationship so far is anything to go by, certainly more than with Clinton where they completely hate(d) each other. And a few eastern-european countries aside, most european countries governments are still very much anti-russian.

Without US support (and Trump said several times that he won't give that support) the European governments can't do that much against Putin. Putin wants just some respect? Right.

Erm no, you do not speak for every single person in your country and you are not a hive mind who all think the same thing.

I'm about to lose every civil liberty and step towards equality for Gay rights we've made in the last decade, aren't I?

It feels like I just got the right to marry a man I love, and now I fully expect Pence to do everything he can to roll back discrimination protections while Trump sits back and shrugs.

I'm just not a real human being to Republicans unless I'm keeping my voice down and "behaving."

My brother is gay and has health issues, and knowing he will lose civil rights and health coverage out of spite and hatred has wrecked him.

Care to provide any reason why Project Veritas should be even taken as valid and not just journalistic bias and malpractice? Right now I see no real difference between this and publicity stunts by those such as Joey Salads.

I agree.

I'm going to admit right now that I have been a Trump supporter for over a year. But I didn't talk about it because I felt I'd be tarred and feathered over it. I saw the binary nature of us versus them on both sides and said 'I'm playing this close to the chest.' As for why I supported him, I wanted Trump to either destroy the Republican establishment because I was fed up with their lukewarm shit or change the world. And honestly? He got both and I'm ecstatic over it. For better or worse, I will own it. I understand all of the shit he said/did rubbed people the wrong way, and he definitely went overboard a few times. But I just wanted something different than DC insiders. Bernie, for all of the outsider talk, isn't an outsider. The dude looked like his soul was destroyed after endorsing Hillary, and his supporters felt cheated, and got validated from it via WikiLeaks. But honestly, that was a debate that I think would've been enlightening to everyone. But since it didn't (and probably won't due to Bernie's age) happen, we have to think about where we go from here.

So you think you will achieve your supreme goal of tearing apart the republican establishment by helping grant them all the power they need in every section of high level government?

They have a Republican President.

They have a Republican senate majority.

They have a Republican house majority.

Trump will appoint a SC that will absolutely lean Republican.

And you believe the republican establishment is in tatters right now?

Are you absolutely sure that's how it works?

You do remember how the people reps just decided to block everything they could for most of Obamas presidency because he wanted to rock the boat?

I didn't see this post before writing mine. So many people around the world are like you and that is why these 'shock' results are happening.

Everyone has their right to vote and political 'figures' need to up their game big time. On all sides of the political spectrum.

As a U.K. National and 'Remain' voter, I sort of know what close to half of America is going through.

Once the emotional response dies down, finger pointing and name calling, political figures need to take a long hard look at themselves. Too many every day people are disenfranchised with politics.

So much so a billionaire tycoon and reality TV star, with no political experience, won the most votes. How? Why?

I don't know the answers. I hope someone more aligned to my views finds the answers soon.

someone please throw some data at my ass because i want to partially blame third party voters and bernie write-ins or something. i guess it'll take some time. my brain is trying to cope and the wine is delaying it

Clinton cancelling her speech seems... spineless?

She's a complete joke who got beat by a low tier racist/sexist. If you can't win against that, even after being hyped up as the favorite you'd probably be butthurt too. She's garbage and a complete disgrace to the Democratic party

The "base" that you speak of wants to be made to feel like everything is the fault of "outsiders". That everything is the fault of minorities. That America was great when "we" had all the power. I'd rather the Democrats not pander to that.
It's also great that this base was flat out lied too about their rusty belt and industrial jobs coming back.

Those jobs aren't coming back. To continue to low to those people is quite literally exploiting them.

i still remember when on gaf, hell on a lot of sites on internet, trump was the joke topic..
guess what?
americans apparently cannot distinguish a good stupid joke from a poor choice..
don't take it to heart america-gaf, but this... smells like a terrible choice..
and it's me putting it mildly..

I wish you guys would stop wasting your time quoting Kolgar and asking him questions that he is just dodging. Attention is all they want, stop giving it to them.

The fact that this has to happen at all, should scare the ever loving shit out of Europe.

I see three possible outcomes for the EU:

  • Mainstream political parties realise the danger ahead and step the fuck up
  • Mainstream (not just radical) conservative see Trump's success and try to model themselves after the GOP just like they did a decade ago with Bush
  • Emboldened by Brexit and Trump's victory, far right parties conquer large parts of Europe previously denied to them

I don't like the odds. It's never been more critical for Europe not to fuck it up, both at national and Union levels. We absolutely don't want anything weird happening in the Baltics nor the Balkans.

possible nuke area?
Further example of the behavior I've been talking about. Advocating, even in jest, for a nuclear holocaust of people who share different views than you seems like just about the last thing that will ever bridge the gap between rural and urban areas. Metropolitan America happily forgets about them until the semi annual election cycle, when it's time to focus on them, albeit only briefly, as the object of its scorn and ridicule.

My brother is gay and has health issues, and knowing he will lose civil rights and health coverage out of spite and hatred has wrecked him.

They want us dead.
I honestly believe that at this point

They don't want to make an order or pull a trigger, but they want us to just sort of shut up and waste away. Out of sight, out of mind, in the ground.

So you're saying... a meme became the President?
