Clinton campaign didn't do tracking polls for the last month, ignored Michigan issues

i think we are forgetting she was putting up historically bad unlikable numbers. she may have done worse for the campaign if she showed up in the areas everyone is saying she should have gone to.

we don't know all of the machinery of the campaign.
I think if people don't have a favorable view of you the best thing to do is not avoid them if you need their vote. You need to convince them you at least have listened their interest. That's more or less what she did not do from what I've been reading and from what I've heard anecdotally.

Why would she need to campaign decently? She was coronated by the DNC two years ago. She just needed to ride the wave of the culture war against Trump.

This is exactly what I've been saying, and yet there were people telling me that she lost because Clinton and her supporters were being "too mean" to Trump and his.

lol
Where's the contradiction? With correct polls they would only have been aware that they're behind, it wouldn't have explained why they're behind.

Yeah, she didn't campaign at all in the primaries. All those videos, all those events in the south, all that stuff we saw. Mirage. She was probably sleeping in her swan feather bed at the time whilst a body double did it.

Hillary Clinton fought *hard* in the primaries, its why she won. By a huge number of votes.

eh...why wouldn't they bring this up during the campaign? just sounds like the usual finger pointing when you're blind-sided and can't explain why yet

no one thought trump would win...not even trump and his team

Where are you getting that from? There were people who thought he would win. I thought he would win. Interviews with KellyAnn have her saying they knew from 2 weeks ago they would win, according to their data analysis.

We're talking about two different things. I'm talking about the rigging of the primary for Hillary by the DNC, starting nearly 2 years ago.

Did Rachel Maddow not convey all those details to you?

Hillary Clinton was the wrong candidate.

How in the world did the Hillary voters not see this!?

I did. But I voted Jill Stein instead.

He didn't really make her work that hard.

She never hit him hard on any of the controversies he had. (Read: wife's job at a Vermont college, his 1972 essay, the Russian honeymoon, etc.)

She won the popular vote by nearly 4,000,000 votes.

She won by nearly over a 1,000 delegates.

Contrast that to 2008 which was an actual race where candidates had to work to win, and was far closer than 2016. Obama too, also started from a disadvantage against Clinton. He was just a far better candidate than Bernie and overcame it.

So why do you think someone that got blown out by someone who lost to Donald Trump would have beaten Donald Trump? Some polls? The same polls that looked good for Clinton coming into the night?

Do you honestly think the DNC completely rigged the election against Bernie? What they did to help Clinton didn't materially help her that much...

A. Bernie still did fine in the debates.
B. The DNC's distaste for Clinton didn't lead to any vote rigging.

Your assertion that because Clinton beat Bernie and Clinton lost to Trump, Bernie would have also lost is completely misguided.

First of all, it really does not matter how much conjecture we pull out our asses because Clinton lost in the contest that mattered. You're trying to pull attention away from blaming Clinton in every thread I see you by making Bernie a target instead.

Second, you cannot interchange Bernie and Clinton against Trump like you're trying to do and assume they'll act like constant variables within a set equation. This isn't fucking power levels here, Clinton beat Bernie but that does not automatically mean Bernie would have lost to Trump. We don't know how Bernie would have done if he was the democratic nom and we have no way of knowing. We do know though that Clinton did not effectively energize her base, she did not produce voter enthusiasm, her campaign trail was horribly mismanaged, and she sat on her laurels and took her base for granted. We also know that a lot of the enthusiasm for Trump among the people that did vote was centered around him being an outsider. That alone was enough to convince many voters to side with him despite their reservations about everything else. Clinton was a candidate uniquely unfit for this election against TRUMP. Bernie might have lost, again we don't know, but it's absurd to think he would have lost against Trump for the same reasons Clinton did or that he would have lost for the same reasons he didn't win the primary.

She blew it, and I'm pretty upset over that. She aggressively inserted herself into the primaries and seized one of the most important chances in modern history, then blew it by running a completely mild-mannered, lukewarm, and totally forgettable campaign.

Which kind of paints the exact opposite picture as the last list of locations...we really need to do better about presenting one side information. These debates seem to swing wildly in one direction when we learn something, then wildly in the other when we learn something else

It's too soon and still too raw. It is going to take months to develop and consensus explanation.

24 years since Perot, and that still isn't completely agreed upon.

Where's the contradiction? With correct polls they would only have been aware that they're behind, it wouldn't have explained why they're behind.

The explanation is simple: they didn't direct any resources in those states because they were 100% confident that they had them due to bad polling data (or outright ignored data in some cases). It had nothing to do with talking to crazy Trump supporters, and had everything to do with paying attention to these states to get people (not Trump supporters, more voters in general) to come out and vote for her.

She lost Michigan to Sanders despite a huge lead in the polls and Nate Silver kept pointing out that we didn't have reliable polls for Michigan late in the ge campaign. She should have taken the Midwest a lot more seriously and definitely spent mote time in places other than Ann Arbor and Detroit where she was guaranteed votes. And visited Wisconsin at least once.
It's not like it was a secret that rural voters liked Trump because they felt like they weren't being heard by the dems. An effort to make those voters think she cared about their issues at all could have made up the slim margins she lost by.

To add:
icl8fyr33iuo3ghvljog.jpg

This isn't something that should be considered low priority ever. Places like 538 had her at >99% chance of winning the Michigan primaries and that was blown out of the water. Many predictions had similarly high numbers going into the GE, but for anyone who tracked the election live, Michigan and Wisconsin are where the distress started settling in, especially after her loss in Florida.

Well considering she lost PA and her numbers in those areas were down from 2012...

For fuck's sake. I knew it had an effect, but not a 3 state dropoff
Clinton lost those 3 states by 1 or 2 percent each, I believe. Comey could easily have been the kingmaker.

That's not to say that Clinton and her campaign were blameless, as it's on them to have been so weak in those states. And I'm a Clinton supporter.

Out of interest those mentioning Comey/FBI/emails are you speculating that it caused Democrats not to vote, or that they voted for Trump instead?

What essentially killed Clinton seems to be Democrats not coming out to vote, than some notable swing to Republicans getting more votes than they normally would.

edit: Just so it's clear this is not me saying it didn't have an affect, just wondering what it was?

I'm not sure I believe that. Something went wrong but we are not going to find out literally 2 days after it's all over.

Probably both suppressing Clinton turnout and galvanizing Trump turnout (with polling not able to reflect the voter shift due to an event taking place 8 days before the election).

And then you have anecdotes in other threads of black voters deciding to stay home because "she's just more of the same". Well, we aren't going to be having more of the same Obama Justice Department upholding civil rights under a Trump administration.

From the KI1600 guys (who cited somebody I don't remember), 3 factors could contribute to sinking Clinton. A rural Trump upswell, Never Trump Republicans skulking back home to Trump, and depressed Clinton turnout. Only one could have been survivable, but all three happened in the end.

It is obvious that I only highlighted August. Taking it easy in August still is an important fact. But you can still compare it to Obama's events in October and November and Obama's schedule still looks better:

Clinton October:
4 events in Pennsylvania
7 events in Ohio
6 events in DC, CA, NY, WA
6 events in North Carolina
1 event in Michigan
0 events in Wisconsin

Obama October:
6 events in Pennsylvania
13 events in Ohio
7 events in Hawaii, DC, Illinois, NY
5 events in North Carolina
2 events in Michigan
1 event in Wisconsin

How many times did I see "Trump isn't even paying his pollster anymore lol" or "Trump is campaigning where!?" when Poligaf was on its "hopium".

Ironic and depressing. How pathetic is it that Trump campaigned in these states and somehow outsmarted all of the experts.

Her margin of loss can be traced to Milwaukee County (WI) and the Detroit area (MI), both of which are heavily African-American areas where the "2012 Obama votes" never materialized. I'm not sure that the "Comey effect" would extend to those places.

Why not? Those people have TV and internet

Democrats have literally killed off having a female president for a few more elections.

This could have been so amazing Hillary winning but they had to be cocky and fuck it all up. Unbelievable.

This is the most unfortunate result ever.

Fuck you, Hillary.

My whole thing is that all the anger should go the Clinton campaign and their hubris.

Sure Trump emboldened bigots and they must be resisted, but if Clinton just ran a semi decent campaign, we would've been spared this from the orange idiot and his upcoming reign of terror.

Disagree - she was establishment when people want change. She focused on social when people want economic. She was free trade when people wanted protectionism.

Why so much time in New York still in September? That's a lot.

I don't think shes just introverted - I think she doesn't like certain Americans - I mean I really didn't see her talking to the working class...anywhere?

We're all plebs that were supposed to fall in line and vote for her turn.

At least this loss was so had that it'll push the clintons out forever and showed corporate money can't buy everything.

I know. Still doesn't mean it was time well spent.

Debate prep according to the site. Don't know why you have to spend half the month sequestered in debate prep.

the debates were such a lost chance thanks to the mantra of 'when they go low we go high'

she did well but, honestly, she could have pushed on Trump way more

Some of us have been discussing this in the Introspection thread, here's some more of Hillary and her teams arrogance on display

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/10/us/politics/hillary-clinton-campaign.html

Here's Joe Biden from a few months ago talking about how Democrats aren't speaking to the white working class worker

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g3py6RVrXQ

And again late last month seemingly even more frustrated than before about the lack of attention paid to that group

http://www.msnbc.com/hardball/watch/vp-biden-we-ve-lost-touch-with-working-class-793534019849

Absolutely insane. Holy crap.

She had to sleep in her own bed every night. Literally. She wasn't out there campaigning.

It really is pretty amazing when you think about it. A candidate that demanded she fly home to her New York mansion every night to sleep in her own bed. You couldn't write a more anti-populist candidate than that.
