Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

So I should keep HDR mode ON under settings, correct? It even changes the look of PS2 classics and the like to be much brighter.

It apparently also doesn't translate into PSN screenshots.

From what I've read and seen on TV forums, is if you force your TV to have hdr on at all times it basically thinks it's not doing something right and puts all the colors on blast. Just plug your ps4 into HDMI ports 2 or 3, on your TV goto settings>external inputs> and turn on enhanced inputs, then goto your ps4s video options and make sure everything is set to auto. The ps4 and TV will work together and do the rest. It also doesn't translate to screenshots because your TV is blowing it's color load not your console.

Here’s something weird… with Watch Dogs 2.. It has a slider with left side should be just visible and I need to put the in-game brightness slider to 0 to make it just in vision… That’s with RTIngs settings which aren’t different from the default. Even with Brightness 1.

I'm even more convinced that the Deep Colour setting is the cause of banding with HDR on Samsung TV's as there has been an issue with Panasonic DMP-UB900 4K Blu Ray players doing the same thing - turning off Deep Colour (Which isn't needed for HDR or 4K Blu Rays as its 12-bit) fixes the banding issue on the Panasonic DMP-UB900.

I'm playing and there's no visual lag but there is audio lag from the tv.

The controller will play a sound effect and the tv will be half a second later :S

Has anyone had this?

Went into PS4 audio output and switched to Dolby then back to PCM. Hope I don't have to do this on every bootup

It has HDR after the update. It's not the best implementation of it but its definitely there. I have the 49" model and have seen first hand.

It's poor mans HDR and not proper implementation. To get full HDR10 you need a 10 bit screen and a wide color gamut.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like I might be better off going for the Sony Bravia KD49XD8077, KD49XD8077 or KD49XD8088 which I think might be the UK/European equivalents of the TV mentioned in this thread.

So...for the PRO, i didn't really change any settings as the default. but i am reading that to sue the HDR10 i should be using the YUV setting instead of RGB? this accurate? and if so, do i need to change the setting between SDR and HDR games? I hope i can just leave it on one setting and be done.

First Light looked amazing tho in RGB. I didn't really notice any banding, but i was not looking closely or nitpicking.

Just use the Automatic setting and it detects the highest quality compatible output for both SDR and HDR games on this TV.

Deep Colour is colour depths with a billion or more colours starting with 30bit (10bit per channel) which is required for HDR without banding.

This is what i wanted to hear. Thanks!

:D

Anyone else enjoying their X800D with the PRO? can't wait to try some more games later tomorrow.

Got my Pro and X800D same day, just set it up and tried the new FFXV demo. I went from a 7 year old 720p set to this so...to say I was blown away is an understatement. The amount of settings though for the TV is insane. My only complaint is that I was there was a way to switch from "Game" to "Cinema Pro" without having to press the Action Menu button and change it from there. My old TV just had a picture mode button to switch between them quickly.

To those who have this TV, do you notice a lot of ghosting/smearing when you move the camera side to side. It's especially noticeable in darker areas. Blacks/greys/dark blues etc.

Me. Everything set to automatic but haven't played a HDR game yet.

Might replay Uncharted....

Play something with HDR please - would like some impressions. Looking at this or an XD93 and would be good to not spend 50% more unless necessary :)

They are. XD80xx where the xx just affects the colour of the bezel. There are also xd83 and XD85 out there for very similar prices but I don't know the practical differences.

Depends. What size are you eyeing? If you can live with a VA panel, the XBR43X800D (43") has a better static contrast ratio than the XBR55X930D (55") but you lose local dimming and higher peak brightness. If you're considering the XBR49X800D, it'll probably be an IPS panel with much lower static contrast ratio but less saturation loss at an angle. I'd get the XBR43X800D if you want less input lag and better comparable picture quality at a cheaper price than the XBR55X930D.

X8000D are the same model as the X800D, I've got the 49 inch IPS set and a friend has the 43 inch VA

The second letter of after the 8 signifies a change. X8500D is the X850D and X8000D is the X800D.

With Sony always keep track of the letter, and the next two digits. W is their base version now. X is their mid range line and Z is their top brand. Then comes the increase in numbers. 7,8,9 etc. Higher second digit numbers usually correlate to a size increase. So the X800D/X80D/X8000D are the same.

Static contrast ratio means very little here. The X930D destroys the X800D in almost every thing except input lag. I own the X800D. The X930D not only has a much better processor for upscaling and picture, but has local dimming, full HDR10 with over 1000+nits of brightness etc. Better motion capabilities. It was the flagship television line for Sony before th new Z9D.

I turned deep colour off on the Tv.

Do I need to turn it on for HDR?

This may sound silly but is there a way to know the TV is displaying a HDR picture?

Posted these images several pages back. If you press display, you should be able to see what resolution you are on. If you press action menu and HDR is auto, you should see the HDR logo show like in the picture below.

Does anyone use Live colour on the tv options? I had it off but when I turned it on to medium the colours look amazing... but surely there's a downside?

----

Every time I boot up the PS4 I am having audio lag and still have to go into audio settings and change from Dolby then back to PCM in order to get sync.

I keep it on high. No issues here or drops that i can notice. Been playing U4 and First Light. I also keep it on my computer setting and XB1S. I just like vibrant colors tho. Without it it can look muted unless you mess around with the colors directly.

Yeh I'm gonna keep it on... when I put Uncharted in and started to play with HDR on... the system appeared to mute my colours and the game looked a bit washed out. Even the PlayStation system menu went washed out ... when I ejected the Uncharted disc my screen went black and came back on and I was back to a nice rich blue system colour.

Is there no european version of this tv? I cannot find it on amazon.de

In Europe it is called XD80xx the last two numbers can be 08, 88 and more.

Can anyone confirm if this is the UK version?

Sony Bravia KD43XD8088 43-Inch Android 4K HDR Ultra HD Smart TV (2016 Model) with TRILUMINOS Display, PlayStation Now, Google Cast - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HM7JPMW/

It's 300 cheaper right now

Damn, at that price I would take one. The cheapest that can be found here is 710€, and even that is hard.

No, anything labeled XD80xx is a X800D equivalent.

X80--D is a different series.

Ordered

Edit: ^ balls

I messed up in how I was writing it but corrected it immediately. Anytime you see X and D and 8 and 0, it is the X800D series. A 7 means it is the 7 series without the triluminous wide color gamut and 10 bit panel etc. An 8 and 5 signified it is the X850D.

So no matter which UK naming you have, if it says XD80, X80D, XD8088 it is the X800D. The sizes only come in 43" and 49" for the X800D.

Excellent thanks man, would be lost without folk on here.

I blame the UK naming stuff. The only real differences I have seen is black bezel, silver bezel, single middle bezel instead of two feet bezel. No panel differences even though some retailers list 200hz or 400hz motionflow as differences they aren't.

I have the 49inch version of this tv and wanted to find out what HDMI setting you guys have your tv set to? I have mine on limited because it gives deeper blacks whereas "full" made the picture looked a little more washed out.

What would you guys recommend? Looks like leaving things on auto might be the best option.

triluminous display does signify the wide color gamut panel. It is equivalent technology Samsungs quantum dot. same stuff.

Maybe this isn't as a big deal to others, but the androidOS on this and presumably other Sony TVs is fucking insanse. I am beyond impressed. I'm still considering returning it for the KS8000 but man, idk that'd I want to give these features up. Why the hell doesn't Sony use this on the PlayStation line of products?
