Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

So just for clarification sake, 4k with HDR doesn't work on HDMI input 1, right?

Any particular reason for that?

No idea why. But port number 2 and 3 is what you want if you are looking for 4k HDR. make sure set your HDMI too enhanced format from the settings. which can be reached via home->settings->external input and set the HDMI ports to enhanced.

Strange but it's no big deal i guess. Thanks.

Besides the second-long audio delay I get every now and then, it's a great tv. As soon as I can find a sure fire fix for that, i'll be set.

They can fix that with a driver update I think. I have never seen that issue on my set. Could be something particularly wrong with your set then? I might get that checked out. If your TV is within a return policy I recommend return it and get another set. If the problem persists then call Sony.

I thought it might've just been an issue with my set too but it seems like a few other posters here a few pages back are having the same issue. I'll play around with disabling some options and see how it turns out.

So which TV ended up being better for the pro, ks8000 or this Sony one?

I'd say hands down the KS8000. My friend got the SonyX800D and while it's still a great TV, after using both he's said repeatedly how irked he feels after buying the Sony, especially considering how low the price got for the UN55KS8000 through the EPP (Not sure what the current deals are) I'd argue the KS8000 is just all around a better set. But if you are going for a sub 50", unless you can get a really good deal on the 49" KS8000 than the Sony may be a better buy. It really just depends on what size you want and the deal you can land.

KS8000 is for sure the better set

I got my X800D though for only $500 open box Best Buy

However I will be hunting a KS8000 Black Friday.

X800D is by far no bad Tv. It's OS is fucking filled with apps and features. It's just not a real 10 bit panel, lacks a bit in HDR and has more input lag (BE MINDFUL MOST CASUAL PLAYERS WONT EVEN NOTICE THE INPUT LAG, It was very tolerable even playing forza horizon 3 in HDR).

But KS8000 just has that much more

It's why I put the X800D as the best and only low tier 4K TV to even consider. It's an amazing TV if you can get it for the lower end price

What you mean by not a true 10 bit panel. I know it says 8 bit + frc but what does that mean and how does it still very a wide colour gamut?

Also checking the price of the Samsung, it's double the price of the Sony.shouldn't it be compared to Sonys higher end Tv's?

Fuck sake, Amazon cancelled my order for this TV. Or rather, the seller did. Price I got it for must have been a glitch rather than an offer.

Is there a european counterpart to this?

US model X800D is known as XD80xx in Europe.

It actually can show more colors than the KS8000 that you are seeking. Even though it uses FRC to achieve 10bit spectre, the end result is great.

Gradients are bit better on KS8000 though.

So you cannot use hdr on inputs 1 or 4 on this set?

Same problem as the h8c with 3 and 4 being the hdmi 2.0 ports.

Are hdmi 1 and 4 on this not 2.0?

Like theoretically could you use a stock ps4 and 1080p hdr on hdmi 1 or 4?

Inputs 2 & 3 for HDR content.

Stock PS4 can also output HDR, so I would still use 2 or 3.

Reserve 1 and for for maybe cable input or whatever else that does not support HDR.

The major difference between these sets is cost (and that gap is now shrinking) and the much higher peak brightness on the Samsung. Important for HDR in brightly lit rooms. In dim/dark room, not as much of an issue, but the Samsung is no doubt in my mind the better set. and I still purchased the 43X800D. I am using it as a gaming/computer monitor, and anything larger than 43 is too insane for me, so I went with the Sony.

I hadn't realized it actually does have a wider color gamut than the KS8000.

I can confirm 10-bit gradients are fine on this set w/o visible banding.

Can someone explain what "color space" and "HDMI video range" does exactly and what's the best option to leave them on? Thanks.

Too bad the KS is too big for my room :(

Interesting. That might cement me into returning my h8c for the Sony.

Perfect input set up would be hdmi 2 and 3 for Xbox one s and pc and another for ps4 hdr.
Yeah, it works great for me like this.

HDMI2: PC / Xbox One S
HDMI3: Nvidia Shield TV
HDMI4: PS4 OG

I wish all four ports were "enhanced" (whatever the hell this means anyway) but oh well. Apparently not the case even with higher end models so... no idea what's holding manufacturers back (probably extra cost?).

OG PS4 HDR works fine in HDMI4 for me btw.

Noted. I will try that out at some point. Thanks for the heads up.

Color space is used to define the color re-producing capabilities of a display.

HDMI video range can be limited or full range. Setting this properly is critical to not seeing crushed blacks or a washed out image.

YCbCr (YUV) components shall always be Limited Range while RGB components may be either Full Range or Limited Range.

If you have this Sony set, I would recommend setting all to auto, it does the work for you.

Thanks. I do have both set to "auto" but wanted to know if the other options were better or if it's just better to leave it set to "auto".

I want to jump on that 49" price but the IPS panel is the only thing stopping me since this would be a bedroom tv where I'd always be playing in the dark. Are IPS panels that much worse or is it not that bad?

Using dual IPS monitors in my bedroom at night doesn't seem to be a problem with gaming, but movies might not be the best due to the black levels.

Damn hehe might not be able to justify it to my gf with her watching movies in the bedroom before bed. But the same price as the 43" makes it sooooooo tempting.

While the 4k HDR content looks good any verdict on how well this displays old content? Like 480p stuff. I wanted to hook up my ps2 on it because I usually play ps1 games I still own. I wonder how the quality will be. Probably as good as the 1080p sets aka not good. Anyone here try out old content on this?

I haven't hooked up any old console but I've watched an old DVD rip the other day and it looked quite okay to my surprise. But again, not sure how games at that resolution will look like.

I wish people would stop posting FUD now. The X800D and X850D have full 10 bit panels, not 8 bit FRC with dithering. This was primarily Rtings who goofed up their initial review and have then updated it but other sites still run with it. The 8 bit and FRC panels are the X700D and HDR ready panels. The X800D has a triluminous display and wide color gamut, it is not an 8 bit panel. The fact it has and can produce better colors than the KS800p should explain this to you.

As for why HDMI ports 2 and 3 only allow for HDR and not the rest, because of space issues. Unlike other televisions that only have ONE hdmi 2.0a deep color HDR port, this has two. Samsung is able to give 4 through its one connect massive box that ia detached from the television. Eventually they will have it so all porta on future tv are 2.0a or soon 2.1 metadata. Besides, aside from your UHD players or Consoles, nothing else allows for HDR. You don't need it for streaming, no cable box or stb is out that allows HDR either.

Just got Best Buy to price match Amazon's $648 49" X800D.

Gonna pick it up tonight! So excited :D
Not trying to offend anyone when I say this, but I'm glad I sold my 49" before this dropped. I wouldn't have gotten as much back if this happened when I was trying to move it for an OLED :lol

Anyway, that price is pretty dynamite. Gonna suggest this to a few on the fence. Amazon's algorithm must have price matched Fry's because Fry's is also selling this for $650 too. But convenience and speed of Amazon shipping? That's an easy choice who to buy from. Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it.

Do you have everything on automatic? Uncharted HDR just seemed to switch on a 'wash out' filter for me

Hey are you referring to the PS4 settings? TV? Both? I will try some things.

Its still noticeable during Netflix movies and such though. I believe it's more than just common LED clouding, I feel like it's light bleed it's pretty distracting and terrible.

Don't watch Netflix via ps4. But watch it from the TV Netflix app. I was testing daredevil and can confirm that it enables 4k and HDR. Atleast according to the information on screen.

It does. It is a native built in app. Less compression, better bitrates and full 4k plus HDR support. Never use the console apps.

Just so confused by TVs just now. Waiting on black Friday in UK to see if any deals. But its the wonder of if its 8bit HDR or 10bit HDR.

You look at TV on websites and it says HDR. Look around to see any further details band nothing.

Can you actually tell that HDR is enabled on HDMI 4 though? My Hisense H8C allows me to enable HDR auto and deep color auto on HDMI but I don't have anything to test if HDR is actually working.

Yes, the TV automatically switches between SDR and HDR when I toggle the option in i.e. TLOU or Uncharted 4. Can also be confirmed in the action menu. Not sure about your model tho, there should be a way.

It's also easily apparent when looking at the game itself of course (Bright highlights and all that jazz).
