IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

I give up reading dingo board it's like half of Win crash with 3D games including mine. And looking on the web it looks like millions of google search show intel Gfx crash like this. I wasn't going to play any steam game just emulation and it works even dolphin , or remote play. And use it as a portable mini computer. Which is amazing for. It's just annoying that it may crash for others.

Hope this lead the way to other similar devices

I forgot who was in charge of developing the unofficial remote play apps. I updated today and it crash more often when quitting than before

How do you like it so far?

You feeling all the issues that other people had? (mainly with build quality, mushy buttons etc)
Buttons are mushy. Dpad is particularly terrible but I think changing the membrane might help. I like it a lot though. Haven't had a chance to do much, but it plays indies on steam perfectly.

Build quality is pretty ace and the screen is amazing.

Sweet. Out of curiosity, what did you tell them?

Told them I bought a tablet from china and the key they gave me didn't work. Support used remote desktop on the Win and activated my key. Took ~20 minutes.

Awesome, thanks. I'll hopefully get mine sorted tonight.

Anyone here do the heatsink mod on the 8700? Also, someone mentioned beta Intel drivers earlier in the thread. Is there a link for those? Are they for DX12?

Woo mine came in !
lets hope its a good one

Nice. Mine has shipped and now I'm just waiting for it to be delivered. I ordered it from the official GPD store on aliexpress and they shipped it fairly quickly. I'm really looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Got mine finally! Wasnt expecting it sonce they never even gave me a real tracking number.

Loading up gamecube library as we speak

its odd
I played one game (One finger death punch) and it was warm
like not hot or anything but warm
I don't know if something wrong or im not used to holding a palmtop computer like a handheld (so some warmth is expected I assume)

The heat sink is a giant slab of copper that stretches across the device and the keyboard is literally laminated to the top of the heat sink.
Due to its design It'll always be warm to some degree except when you turn it on.

As soon as I mentioned the word refund Geekbuying just went completely silent on me
fuck

im getting annoyed
after a constant week of emails now nothing for 72 hours :/

quick question here

my gpd charges super slow
like i left it on in sleep mode and it was losing power (before it was gaining power)
I completely turned the device off and charging it now but any suggestion on what i should do?

beside that, my gpd runs pretty great (played owlboy for an hour) and everything seem to function as it should

Finally found a 3D PS2 game runs smooth and is playable on this: Maximo Ghosts to Glory

A downside I'm finding with PC shooters is having to counter how sensitive the sticks are. Timesplitters 2 is a lot of fun to play because it has generous auto-aim.

Contacted Windows and they told me to try and get a new key from the seller. If that does'nt work, I can then go to howtotell.com and see if MS will help me.

Lame.

Where are you playing Time Splitters 2?

If anyone is curious, the first Borderlands plays pretty well with low settings. I'll be messing around with Mame tonight as soon as I get my usb adapter. Feel free to drop me a request.

Games I played for an hour or more:
Owlboy-Runs well but the control scheme is kinda awkward at first
Rogue Legacy-Run well and looks amazing (colors really POP out)
Celestian Tales : Old North- run well but gamepad doesn't seem to work (mouse mode is easy enough to play with
Pokemon Uranium-Run super choppy which is odd since i figured this device would have enough juice for it (controls adapt well enough)
Streaming-Great and a nice way to play some games if i feel like laying down

Battery life is pretty good
Device charges slow as molasses sometimes so I rather turn it off then have it sleep
The keyboard is actually not bad alot I have no clue on how to use the f1 f2 keys
I don't see myself running anything 3D or anything super taxing so I might disable the turbo to keep the temps down and extend battery life

I hope someone makes an OT for this device, I think its pretty good and afterward when they get the troubled units out of the mix, I could see alot of people grabbing this.

Ok I updated the GDrive file with new games.

GC Emulation
- I tested Super Mario Sunshine in the PAL and USA versions. Both runs very well and are totally playable.
- I also tested Pikmin PAL and it runs pretty well
- Resident Evil 4, on the other side, runs poorly in larger areas
- Super Smash Bros Melee it's ok. It doesn't run at full speed but it's totally playable

PC Games
- Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition runs very well, I had problems only with the control scheme but was only sifficient to set the switch to DInput
- Dead Space also runs very well even with some graphic options activated
- Resident Evil 4 runs poorly also on its PC version. I don't know if it's because the game is on the SD card but it has a lot of slowdowns

Next days I will probably try:

PC
- Silent Hill 2
- Splinter Cell
- Simpsons Hit & Run
- No One Lives Forever 2
- Pure
- Call of Chtuluh

GC
- PN 03
- Time Splitters 2
- Pikmin USA
- 1080 Avalance

PSP
- Power Stone Collection

PS: If you have any suggestion to make RE4 run better you're welcome ^__^

Hold the 'Fn' key in the bottom left.

Anyone know where I can snag one of these and possibly have it within 2 weeks? I'd rather not ebay, if at all possible

Out of luck maybe? GPD seems to have its hands full and Retailers are waiting for GPD to get their shit done to get more. Seems like Geekbuying is dicking some about saying they have stock but actually don't.

Is that actually true?

They told me they were testing units this week

Sorry no confirmation merely guessing on my part seems like as GPD has been in a rush to get IndieGoGo backers units, retailers, partners and now supposedly changing their production which has cost them a week and a half so far of not sending more units to backers.

Well my gpd just got sent from geekbuying, ordered the batch from the first pre-order available i think, before the one up right now

A dude on reddit has his shipped the @ the same time; so there's more units out

When I ordered, the preorder count was in the high 500's now it's 1.3k

I don't know if that's a new batch of pre-orders or the same ones

Intel has provided GPD with a fix for the driver crashes.

Consulted, but did not reply to my question? Ask sprayer brother, if repaired, then it is for U or for machinery is put into formal crowdfunding do? Or software system repair?
Is the Intel processor problem now Intel provides a solution that is by changing the motherboard resistor, upgrade the processor pin voltage, solve driver problem
Gonna drop the original text in case anyone wants to do better than the machine translation.
是intel处理器问题,现在intel提供一个解决方案,就是通过修改主板电阻,提升处理器针脚电压,解决掉驱动问题

I don't understand anything of your Link. What is the fix ?

Oh GPD sells the kit needed to fix it for $0.10 on their Aliexpress store.

Listing has all the images showing what to do.
I'm gonna give it a shot rather than sending mine in for who knows how long.
What am I looking at ?

Gearbest has preorders up again (for a different shipment?). I ordered mine last Thursday and they still haven't shipped mine (I was the 30ish one to buy one).

This is for units that crashing often right?

Units that are fine shouldn't need the fixup's you think?

Or is it all intel chips
If yours works fine its not needed.

Basically changing out resistors on the motherboard to alter the voltage the cpu receives.
If you don't know how to solder and don't want to modify the device this is not for you.
A GPD employee posted this on dingoonity.

I'm a member of Softwincn. Today I'm going to demonstrate how to solve the problem of suspension of display driver by modifying the hardware.

Internal inconsistency of the Intel Atom x7-Z8700 chip results in suspension of display driver when some players play games after receiving the GPD WIN. Our suggestions to solve this problem are to upgrade the intel graphics card driver and to adjust the graphics card’s performance model in Windows. For those which cannot be solved with these methods, the way of modifying the circuit components can be applied (this method will lead to 10%-15% power dissipation; it has not be confirmed whether the modifying of circuit components will lead to other risks or not; for machines which have not ever or have seldom experienced suspension of display driver, it is strongly not recommended to apply this method). Below are the steps about how to solve this issue by modifying the hardware:
There are unknown risks but it sounds like this is what they'll be doing to units sent in for repairs anyways and I'm doing this myself because I'll be damned before I pay to ship mine back to them and wait at the very least a month to get it back if not longer and honestly I have no real desire to interact with GPD any more.
I'll accept the risk if this fixes my crashes, I already have a stronger fan coming and intend on modifying the heatsink anyways.

Took me an hour to get blue to work, apperanly it only works in windows 98 mode... what fps are you getting cause its almost unplayable On lowest settings
You mean Blur? If yes I noticed that it doesn't work on Internal memory of the GPD and on micro SD but it works on USB sticks and external HDD. I have to check the file systems... I have the suspect that the game has troubles with exFat

Edit: around 25 frames with 960*544

Well. My units isn't working properly so I want to do it but I have no knowledge ... need to find someone

What do I need to buy exactly ? Can't read on your link

They're rare but you may find some small electronics/hobby shop around that may be able to do it for a reasonable amount of money.
You may also have a makerspace nearby where you could find someone who could help possibly.
You'd need to find someone who is comfortable soldering tiny components.

HTB1WsBoOpXXXXbcaXXXq6xXFXXXm.jpg
This seems fairly simple but isn't really.
These are tiny and will be a small nightmare to do.

I can't stress enough to think this over carefully whether to find someone locally willing to do this or send it back to be repaired.
No matter how skilled a person may be there will be a small chance something could go wrong and even if GPD made a guide how to do it if something gets damaged its all on the owner and at that point you have a unrepairable brick and there won't be anything you can do short of buying a new device.
See if there are any local places nearby that repair electronics and get their opinion on it and go from there.

That kit GPD is selling on Aliexpress for 10 cents has a small length of tin solder, small length of .1mm copper wire and 1k and 10k resistors.
I think you only need one each of the resistors but it includes several spares cause those things are tiny.
