KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

I apologize but I've spent 35 pages and a week already discussing and testing this on my ks8000.

The only thing I could ask is if your settings are on auto on ps4 and tv and you are hooking up directly ps4 to tv.

If your settings are my settings i put in OP using this tv hooked directly to pro you will get nothing short of an incredible image. Also check brightness slider in game.

I have seen people using recievers or spmething betwen tv and pro not getting the 10 bit color.
I've played 7 chapters in last of us since yesterday and it was nothing short of incredible looking.

Not a problem, I totally understand and thanks a lot for helping out. I'll try to do what you said.

My PS4 is connected directly to the tv, albeit all connections need to go through this box as the tv itself has no ports of its own

Which auto settings? Color is set to auto instead of native, rgb range on the ps4 is full, not auto

I thought last week you said dc should be set to high ?

And before that low and before that medium.

There was a lot if misinformation out there leading people to believe dc needed to be on.

So we tried every setting extensively and discussed each and came to the conclusion off will give you the best picture.

Try it for yourself. It looks outstanding and the details are truly awesome. Any dc and you lose the detail hdr gives you.

Setting all ps4 settings to auto is completely fine as long as your straight to tv. Other than that idk.

Ok cool. Will try this once i get home

I purchased the LG 6030 (55') at Microcenter and was extremely pleased with the quality of it. I also picked up a PS4 Pro and with this unit I have the HDCP 1.4 black screen issue.

I read all the positive press and reviews on the Samsung SK8000 (also 55') so I got one of those as well hoping to ditch the HDCP 1.4/Sony issue.

My setup:
I use the display as my office computer monitor with my ps 4 pro connected as well.
My pc is extremely beefy and am using Nvidia1080 as video card.

With the LG I spent a very long time tweaking the picture settings for my PC and PS4Pro. Outside of the subpar depth of the color on the LG (and HDCP 1.4 issue) everything else about the unit preforms great for a 55' $450 UHDR TV.

Then I got the Samsung unit (today). Quickly did basic setup.....and was amazed at the difference. The Samsung unit is stunning.

My issue: Motion blur on the Samsung while playing PC games is extremely bad. LG performs flawlessly.

I have turned off the trumotion 240 settings with the Samsung and still have really poor performance (with game mode as well).

PS4 Pro Preforms great on the Samsung.....am I missing something?

You want to turn on LED clear motion, which is Black Frame Insertion

Ok.

Switched off Game mode (so I could adjust Auto Motion Plus Settings)
Put Auto Motion Plus on "Custom"
Chose "LED clear motion" and with that on the screen pulses very rapidly. Very hard to look at.

Actually the more I compare screens in different game areas the more Im actually inderstanding that it was probably working as intended all along.

In non hdr mode I get more brightness and more intense colors, but its on the while image so theres a lot of depth missing as a result, it looks flat.

With hdr on it definitely gets darker but theres a lot more information in there, and when something gets really bright or dark it REALLY does go the full range.

I guess the key in hdr really is range.

Starting to think my TV may have an issue.

The colour banding is horrible. It's particularly bad in Gears of War 4 in the shadows and skys. The transition between the different colours isn't gradual at all and is quite harsh. It's a very strange effect that I can't really describe. The picture looks great most of the time but then this banding happens and my heart sinks.

Balls.

My issue: Motion blur on the Samsung while playing PC games is extremely bad. LG performs flawlessly.

I have the 65" Nordic model (KS7005) and spent the whole evening trying various PC games in 4K using a 980 Ti and the Samsung performed really well. While obviously my ASUS PG278Q (1440p G-Sync/ULMB with pretty much the fastest response time and lowest input lag available) still performs better, I did not mind playing on the Samsung at all.

So you definitely should not have bad issues with motion blur.

Is one panel supposed to be better than another?

FA01 or an AA02 panel?

They have different pros but I think aao2 is better for less cloud and flash I read.

And yes hdr is range. You got it.

Set it up and enjoy. Seriously. Plying uncharted 4 on pro has been an outstanding experience and it's only 1440p but the hdr will make any sdr game after seem flat.

Unfortunately, while clear motion is amazing for what it does, the input lag it causes is terrible. (Upwards to 100+ IIRC.)

I'm a little torn because I feel like it's so easy to get caught in an infinite loop where you keep waiting because "oh next year they might have full array backlighting" or "ooh but next year they might have dolby vision added" or "ooh maybe they'll use screws in the back next time." That loop just goes on forever doesn't it. The next year will always be better right, so what year do you jump in ? Anyone else feeling a little stuck or just me ?

You have to remember this is all luxury item.

I would say that if you can get a ks8000 at a bargain price you will be just fine for gaming.

If you are happy now than sure wait until you find a tech that you are happy with.

In my instance my tv sucked balls and I needed to replace it anyways. I was not waiting a year.

My KS8000 is arriving sometime next week and Im ordering the PS4 PRO so I have some questions..should I plug the PS4 PRO into the TV directly or into the one connect box? I assume the HDMI cable that comes with the PS4 PRO is sufficient to run the PS4 PRO or do I Need to buy a HDMI 2.0 cable? For the HCPI setting when you go to safe mode..do I have to do anything with that or leave it alone(I will be upgrading the hard drive so I will have to go into safe mode anyway) thanks Im looking forward to getting this TV

My current TV is only a 32" samsung 1080p from maybe 8-10 years ago so it's definitely been awhile. Also, I suppose getting any size KS8000 for $1500 or less is a "deal" here in canada. If you had paid 1300-1600 for yours would you still be satisfied and impressed or would you have wished you'd waited ?

Yeah, my AA02 is flawless for backlight bleed, at least straight on. Also, I do not have any signs of the back panel separation.

Last year was "wait for HDR" and now this year is "wait for dynamic meta data"?

I think I read they can firmware update these to do dynamic. Hopefully worst case scenario we just have to buy a new one connect box.

I paid 1600 for a 55inch and drove to the states to pick mine up. Im canadian.

This tv at 55 inch and a pro would be a massive upgrade for you.

From what i understand dynamic metadata changes yeh brightness of hdr frame to frame or something.

Every device you're connecting goes into the One Connect box. The TV itself only has power and LAN cable connections (and an Ex-Link and a USB port), so you won't have the option to plug the PS4 Pro directly into the TV. Not sure about your last question, but the HDMI cable that comes with the PS4 Pro is sufficient. Hope this helps!

What gave me assurance is that PS4 Pro is my primary gaming device for the next 3 or 4 years. It doesn't even do proper 4K for most games, so even into the next console generation, I'll be set on that front. My resolution will be top-tier for probably a decade or so.

As for HDR, I'm not worried about Dolby Vision. I'm not a movie watcher -- and I'm not going to start buying Blu-rays just to show off my TV -- so the fact that HDR10 is the universal standard for movies and gaming has me perfectly happy. I think the talk of a "format war" is overblown--HDR10 has already won, if you want to look at it like a war for dominance. The dynamic meta-data that Dolby Vision leverages could one day be "standard" when it comes to HDR (though I don't think it will take the form of Dolby's proprietary chip). But definitely not for gaming--how could it, when every frame of the game is player-dependent?

I have a 2015 Vizio 4K that's full-array. This edge-lit KS8000 with its quantum dots is better in every way.

At the end of the day, it's a cyclical argument that you'll never win. 2017's LG OLED 80" will sell for $7,000 and be technically beat by something in 2018. But the bottom line is: the KS8000 and other sets we've been talking about are in 99th percentile or higher of all TVs owned in the world. Your money is well-spent.

@Kyle, that actually does make me feel a lot more secure. I want to avoid feeling like I'm stuck with something for the next 8-10 years and that helped a lot. You and Haines are definitely making this sound like a safe idea.

The 55" ? Yeah I was debating whether to get the 49" of the 55". The 55" looks to be only 100 bucks more, but the shipping/higher taxes/duties/conversion to USD etc makes it 300 bucks more than the 49" so I'm not sure if that's worth it or not.

That 6" is actually a pretty big difference. I would go for it, just to save yourself from regretting it after.

Gonna contact Samsung to see if I can replace my 60" at a local store. Bought it on Amazon. Light bleeding on the bottom edge is constantly distracting me. I got this whole setup together mostly for FFXV though, so if I can't replace it by next Tuesday, I don't know....

Hi there thanks so much for the info..so EVERYTHING goes into the Oneconnect box I understand..the other issue is regarding the hdcp I said it wrong earlier..does it configure it automatically when I connect the HDMI cable or do I have to set something in safe mode? Enabling HDR that I do on the TV set or on the PS4 PRO

I did the perks at work deal and all said and done it was 1600. Personally wouldnt want any less than 55 for my living room.

Try and find any negatives you can on the tv see if you are happy with them. Try and catch a bargain price.

For instance i find when i watch tv stuff there is a bit of a motion blur i didnt have on my old tv. I need to look into either using a small amount of SOE or just getting used to it.

Yeah the negatives I've read have been:
Potential judder during playback, chance of light bleed and clouding ; worsened by viewing angle, panel lottery of FA01 vs AA02 (might be related to the previous) and the glued back separating from heat issues.

Now I'm hearing in this thread that the judder can be fixed in settings. I notice that fairly easily to the point where I have 4 or 5 media players on my pc in case something's playing janky so I'd be glad to not have that stuttering during camera panning. And if I could somehow request to get one that was the better panel (AA02 right ?) some of those other drawbacks might be mitigated. Maybe if I ordered it over the phone vs through the site I could try that. Can you send one back if it has excessive light bleed or clouding ? Probably can't send one back just because you didn't win the panel lottery.

How do you check what panel you got? Also, how's things going on KS8000? Is the back still intact?

Says on the box. You look at the number on it somewhere.

I personally sit 5 feet away so 55 is good. If I had to sit farther away I might want a bigger one.

So I think I am convinced to get one of these. Will going to a 55" from my current 60" be a major thing?

I didn't own a 60 inch for long (returned it) but going from it to a 55 inch wasn't a big deal at all. The immediate upgrade in black levels, brigtness, and color was so apparent that it overwhelmed everything else. Also the KS8000 is just a beautiful looking set to begin with. Its super thin and the silver bezel is stylish but small and unimposing. The universal remote that comes with it was also surprisingly well made, although I may just be used to cheap remotes. It works with everything even your PS4, although its functions are somewhat limited there. Basically it felt like I was getting a premium product immediately and my bigger TV seemed antiquated in comparison.

what size did you get for 1600? i just ordered my dad a 60" ks8000 with perks at work and the total after tax was $928.

you can get bad panels with the FA and AA, panel lottery no matter where it is manufactured.

Noticed after a week a faint light blue dot when on the ps4 menu.. comes through on other menu screens and colors as well. About the size of a pencil eraser. Hard to see when a game / movie is on. Not a stuck or dead pixel.. seems like its faded. Anyone else?

That's the price converted to Canadian after taxes for the 55".

For reference, I bought it here when it was at its lowest price here and all in cost me $2300.
