Christ. Im 17 hours in already.

But I feel this is the first open world game where I'm feeling compelled to do the side wuests. No other game has accomplished that yet.
The only other game that made me want to do sidequests is the Witcher 3. I have no idea how many hours I have on W_D2 but it's probably around 30+ and I still want to go back for more
but there's not much left :(

Same. Not sure what it is but everything in this game feels compelling

I usually play through only the main story in these type of games and then wrap it up but I'm finding all the extra stuff fascinating

It's such a joy to throw on music and just screw around the city. And I really like all of the characters too, god I hope we get a direct sequel
Ubisoft pls

So far 5-6 hours in and gotta say I'm very conflicted with the game. I'm not a fan of how the game just pushes you right into open world to do anything. Also exploring the world and doing some of the missions become vague such as hack this crate and spending over 20 minutes to find out I can't yet or its a bug. Story missions are alright just not connected very well to make a fluent story. The music is good but the driving is a step back the car have no real weight to them besides motor cycles. The most dissapointing is the hacking I find. Spending the first few hours it takes a few missions to finally start to use the abilities that were in watch dogs 1. Hacking street lights, power outage etc. I just feel the game developers took the feedback and tried to make a game that would please a lot more of the audience and it succeeded in some areas but stepped down overall. I could change my mind the more I use hacking abilities so far I have 3. I get the vibes are different from this one to the first but I truly believe the first had a better introduction with the black out stadium and teaching us how to use the abilities. So far watch dogs is a 6-7 from me.

6 hours into Watchdogs1 = This game is terribly unfun, Chicago looks bland, there's nothing to do, everything there is to do is frustrating and makes me want to throw the disc out the window, but I can't because I'm on PC so I'll uninstall.

6+ hours into Watchdogs2 = This game is fantastic, there's something to do on every corner, the city is amazing & up there with GTAV's LA, the gameplay is so much fun, the writing & cutscenes are funny and have heart, the art design is fantastic, there's so much to do I've barely touched the surface, and the music is great.

So yeah, they sure did something right. While they might have pissed off some WD1 fans, the series went from being trash to one of my favorite sandbox games up there with GTAV. Best game Ubisoft has published since AC2/AC4 so far imo.

Only thing I don't like is dealing with police chases, but I just bought the helicopter turn away & turbo boost for driving so hopefully those combined should make getting away much easier. At first the on-foot & driving felt really bad, but I've gotten used to them and don't have a problem with either though running shouldn't be on l3. Can't say much about combat since I never use it outside an occasional stun gun shot. Just use hacking, stealth & melee because I feel it fits the character. I'm also playing on easy because I've found with some sandbox games like Red Faction Guerrilla where you just want to have a fun sandbox time, the more leeway you have without getting frustrating the better.

I really like the scale of the structures in this game. They nailed the bridges and the skyline, I'm guessing in part because the game doesn't have to account for player piloted helicopters.

The more I play the more I like the game actually. The open world while nowhere near as big as GTA5's, is far more engaging to me.

Without going into spoilers, for those that also played the first game how does this game's story and protagonist fare in your opinion? I enjoyed the first game but I really did not care about Aiden, and at worst, I just flat out didn't like him at times during the game. On the contrary, I really enjoyed the characters in the story that weren't Aiden and I ended up getting invested with how their stories unfolded in spite of Aiden. This game's marketing kind of worries me because I haven't seen a single advertisement that told me anything about the main character or the story; they all felt like I was in the fever dream of a 14 year-old MDMA-addict that thinks hacking is the coolest thing ever. Is the story as shallow as the marketing campaign makes it out to be?

The next story mission for me is
HACK TEH WORLD
. Am I already at the end of the game? I'm gonna be disappointed if I am. This totally flew by, and I had a blast.

I'm not super far into the main story because I keep doing side missions, but I really like Marcus. He seems like a good natured dude who's smart and funny and likes to have fun. Which is where the complaints about guns not suiting the game come from ( at least partially). It also helps that he's Black (I'm half) and he wears trendy clothes like I do in real life.

On a side note, I think WD2's rendition of San Francisco is my favourite open world in any of these games. I wonder how people who live in the area feel, but as someone who's visited a handful of times I really how it captures the vibe and look of the city. All the other areas are interesting and disctint as well even if they're not to scale.

I posted some impressions above if you want a tad more detail but i love all the characters, Marcus especially and the story was a lot of fun and silliness (in the best of ways)

This is definitely an Assassin's Creed 1 -> 2 situation. Like AC1 had a good premise and interesting setting but kind of fell flat a bit with the repetitiveness of the hits and the lack of things to really do outside of climbing around. and then AC2 fixed pretty much every issue people had with 1 and made the playable ancestor super likeable.

WD1 was a good idea, surveillance gone mad, a city wired together and being exploited by those in power to control and keep down the people but Aiden was so boring and unlikable, his story was so boring and there were like 2 or 3 missions that were actually interesting and it seemed to approach the hacking like the "omg leet haxor so cool!" while in WD2 it's there and internet meme-y but it just has more character and heart. These people have personality and humour and there is a friendship and care between them and the story with Marcus is cool too. Plus the city definitely feels more alive and colourful and just more inviting to play around in.

The cop stuff is still one issue from the first game carried over. It's just a bit too hard to get away from the cops.

So, I just realized I'm not 17, but 22 hours in. At a completition percentage of 56.

22 hours. That's more than I've put into GTA V (where, to be fair, I'vo only completed the main story)

Honestly combat in this game is really not fun. I have a silenced rifle, went into a restricted area, took out the first enemy when there was no possible way it would have been seen by anybody and all the enemies were at full alert with cops on the way instantly and its a common theme so far for me in the game. Everything else in the game though seems alright although I feel the collectables in the game are totally worthless (besides more cash). I felt in WD1 there was more reward for getting them.

Oh and getting away from the cops is a total pain in the ass. They are suicidal in their cars.

Are there any other collectables besides the Key Data and the ScoutX pictures?

Both reward you by "unlocking" skills and gaining you followers, which is more than Watch Dogs 1 did.

Really? This is one of the few sandbox games where I feel the collectibles actually give good rewards:

Research points = get new skills, incredibly useful
Money = guns are expensive, helpful
Clothing = the huge variety of clothing in the game is part of the fun, more clothes are always good

So far all the collectibles have been one of those three and those are all great and rewarding. Plus figuring out how to grab them is fun in an Arkham City/Knight way. Some of the small area stealth bits let you be really creative in your approach. The collectible being fun to acquire and useful rewards has been a big part of making the game constant fun since they're everywhere and a good mixup between missions/side missions/scout x/uber driving and just messing around & sightseeing.

Sorry I should have explained myself better. I mean reward as in, with the privacy breaches (even though some were tasteless) you got something more than an in game reward and it added to the world the game was set in. The QR codes were also pretty tricky and I found them quite fun to figure some of them out as well as the CTOS breaches.

I admit I have only done a few story missions and a whole heap of side missions and I am not sure if the game opens up to have similar stuff to what the first game had.

I guess the reason why I am disappointed in the collectibles in this game is having just come from 100% completing rise of the tomb raider only days ago, which is absolutely incredible when it comes to the stories and information that comes with the collectibles, I at least expected to have something similar to what WD1 had.

I'm about 5 or so hours in. The first game had a pretty neat slow-mo mechanic. I think it was called "focus" or something? Is there any way to do that in this game? I'm really enjoying it but I kind of miss that. I'm definitely not enjoying the combat as much as I did in the first one.

Unfortunately focus is not in 2. We are all missing it too.

Damn the final mission is, well, really bad. Bland area, bland mission design, no exciting twists or set pieces and a very plain villain.

The story... I don't know. It doesn't really go anywhere. And that ludonarrative dissonance thread had a point. These are all likable characters, but at no point do they strike me as competent enough to pull off the kind of stunts they do nor do they have the mean streak to drop bodies. Say what you will about how terrible Aiden is, but at least his extreme actions were those of a believably terrible person. Here it's like okay let's get drunk and do mushrooms and lulz hack the world and take down silicon valley. I don't take the characters seriously and the one emotional moment they did try to have fell as flat as WD1. They really need to try and find a balance between super lighthearted and the most dour boring protagonist in the world. They need someone who is likable but also if they drop bodies it should feel natural. Jordi still seems to be the closest to that in the series. Weirdly I think less of a focus on hacking in general would be good, like the main character should have hacking as their superpower but the entire story doesn't need to revolve around it. Also a bit more focused in general.

Also stop trying to make T-Bone a thing.

Do you reckon the wider FOV/pulled back camera helps that sense of scale? People have complained that the further-back camera makes you feel less detached from this game's world, but I've got a feeling it was a decision made to ensure the city gets all the on-screen real estate it can.

I absolutely loved The Witcher 3, do you mean WD2 side-missions are as compelling as TW3's ? If so, WD2 is already mine.

From what I've read (uber-lurking in this thread) the side quests/content in WD2 are pretty light on story content, don't expect large twisty well-written side quests like TW3's – but they are the equal opposite, in that they are great as vessels for emergent gameplay, getting you to parts of the city and places where things happen dynamically and the world reacts to itself, while giving you plenty of choices about how to approach dangerous situations or objectives and/or using your gadgets to solve mini-puzzles in the world. I guess more like Batman: Arkham meets GTA?

Was holding off on a purchase...

I heard there were some FPS issues when it launched, was this now fixed with a patch? Is 30 FPS now steady?

PS4? Yes. Playing 1080p on the pro and the game runs very smooth and looks great.

Yes, sorry I should have been more specific.

I was talking about the PS4 Pro running at 1800 resolution. I heard there were issue with frames dropping.

Runs solid on my Pro - I've not noticed any obvious framerate drops/tearing etc. For me it runs beautifully and looks amazing.

The car on demand feature is a little weird. I just had a car spawn in the middle of a gang base

I used that twice and gave up on it. I had to run so far to get my car. They should drive it up if you are on a road. I just silently unlock cars and take them or hijack in rare cases.

I am enjoying the game, but there seem to be a few things bugging me.

- Gun combat mechanics seems to b a massive step backwards from WD1. Feels kinda sloppy. Definitely not as solid as #1.
- Did they remove thunder storms from the game?? I loved the storms and the lighting effects that WD1 had.

Edit: And let me turn off the fucking reticle when walking around and driving. It's annoying and distracting.

I hope this game has a deal on Black Friday, but at the same time I just got TF2, Tomb raider, and skyrim. The game looks so good even watching it on twitch and impressions have been real positive.

Quick question. but is there anything like the drinking games from the first WD? :)

I have 26 fucking hours into the game and im only 56% done lmao. Seriously so much to do i get sidetracked so much and figuring out hideout puzzles etc makes it so much fun. Really just an enjoyable experience. I think there has only been very few moments ive even used my gun.

22 hours, 56% in.

I want to go back to BF1, but I want to finish WD" first.

Taht said, I have put almost as many hours in WD2 within a week as I've put into BF1 MP in a month LOL

Even when you are playing on 1080p display, the game is still rendered at 1800p (and then downsampled to 1080p), the output resolution doesn't matter in this case. The Pro performance issues were patched in 1.04.

28h / 35% for me. The songs in the
sailing
missions are awesome. They remind me of Pirates of the Caribbean and other Disney movies.

Kinda annoyed at myself. I got the game from Amazon and it came with the Zodiac mission. I used the code inside the box and the mission never showed up. I went looking for the promotional email from Amazon because apparently I also needed that too. I was never able to log into the Ubisoft site to redeem it so I kind of forgot about it thinking it was a code for something else in the game - like an outfit since the email didn't specifically say - and because there was already a code for it inside the box.
Anyway, the email disappeared. I must have accidentally deleted it. I contacted Amazon and, "Sorry, we don't have anymore codes." So I guess I'm never playing the Zodiac mission.
Why does it need TWO codes to unlock?

Mine didn't need two codes. I never got a code from Amazon and the code came in the case. I just unlocked the mission last night.

I got the code that comes with new copies of the game (from GameStop). It says there's an exclusive mission and clothing items.

I haven't used it, though. I normally don't bother with such things.

Huh, well I can't get it to show up. I don't know then. I Googled how to unlock it and that's when I saw the two codes thing.

This is one of those games where I don't care for the story at all and it doesn't matter. It's just fun to play. Of course it would be even better if the story was good but as long as the gameplay is fun I don't see the problem.

Ubisoft should give Aiden and Marcus separate games going forward. Aiden will provide a more serious tone and that open world Splinter Cell feel (great description from someone ITT) that had a perfect balance of stealth, hacking, and shooting. A world where a more violent character fits and makes sense. Original is my favorite open world game. From story to controls, it was really a complete package for me.

Marcus games can cater to heavy hacking, non lethal, and sillier tone. This reminds me of the first Saints Row. Nothing wrong with a light hearted story but I was fully expecting something along the lines of the original. Either I suck at this game or stealth is broken. Trying to be scout ahead and hack with the RC car is infuriating. Don't have the quadcopter yet. Guessing that would help?

Yes, the flying drone helps a lot since it scouts more easily and can get you a better sense of the layout and can hack some stuff itself. You can also more easily plan a route for your RC car if a physical hack is required and the quadcopter can more easily get out of view

The stealth is broken due to high detection speed but its definitely pretty manageable using your hacks.

Has anyone found any references to Abstergo or the Assassins in the game? There was a pretty important interaction between Aiden and Abstergo in WD1.
