KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Can I ask why you would watch movies and Netflix on Gaming Mode?...or is it just for people using the PS4 apps, since this thread is about gaming?

I asked the same thing. Unless someone can give a reason not too than it seems to do no harm. If anything it just locks post processing stuff out you don't want anyways.

Someone might have a reason to switch to movie mode only that I don't have for you.

I've heard that the larger models have two different positions for the legs, with one of them being closer together.

Was wondering if anyone has the width between the legs on the 60 inch model, when they're in the closer position. I've only been able to find it for the 65 model, which is 39 inches, I think.

60" doesn't have 2 positions only 1

question folks....pretty sad question tbh.

I didn't check to see if I could move the legs a little bit further in on the TV, does the 55 inch have the ability to move the legs inwards like the 60 inch?

This damn TV barely fit on my TV stand and is more or less sitting in the cracks between the glass and stand rail lol. It literally just fit the stand.

My buddy has the 60 and stated he has two positions

It degrades image quality, perhaps not significantly, but any little bit is enough to not use it. The description of it on the TV itself when you select the option tells you this. It also locks you out of adjusting some options. Granted, you may not even use this, but still, why would you want that? Game mode is for reducing input lag for playing games. You don't want it for watching movies or any streaming content.

Just odd that this is in the original page, and it's not necessary, and is likely undesirable. Perhaps confusion like this is why this thread is so massive...

Well mine doesn't

then you don't own a KS8000 or a 60 inch lol

found the answer to my 55 :(

Time to buy a bigger stand

No, the 55" has just 1 position...but don't let that dissuade you from buying an otherwise great TV. If you're not looking to buy a new piece of furniture, you can always buy a different stand. I picked up this one;

https://www.amazon.com/Fitueyes-Universal-Screen-Table-TT06801MB/dp/B01H4OYJNI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1479752757&sr=8-4&keywords=fitueyes+tv+stand

...and though it looks kinda flimsy, it's doing the job so far. There are also options that appear sturdier, such as this one;

https://www.amazon.com/Friday-Fenge-Universal-Tabletop-Component/dp/B0122TVI7U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1479752717&sr=8-5&keywords=table+top+tv+stand

Sucks to have to spend extra because TV manufacturers have a thing for these super wide legs nowadays, but again, I think it's worth it.

Just got the 65" in on Saturday. Anyone know how to turn of the feature that switches inputs whenever a device turns on? Gets annoying when one of my consoles decides to pop on to check for updates and the tv switches to it.

Besides that, I'm really enjoying this tv, it's replacing a 65" Sony I bought a couple years ago, and I have to say the colors and blacks are far superior, I think this is turning me off from ever considering a Sony tv again.

I haven't messed with HDR too much since I've been playing WoFF lately, but I tried a bit of First Light, and it was pretty nice. I'm sure I'll get my fill of HDR when I start playing FFXV.

Have not figured this out yet either, my TV automatically goes to TV input.....I don't have TV lol. I wish it would just auto go to HDMI 2 or 3 as thats what my consoles are.

Alright. I will correct this.

I was told it was fine in this thread by someone whom seemed to know his stuff. Obviously bad info according to you.

Again. Thanks and will update.
If you have anymore corrections it's appreciated.

I'm on the fence about getting this TV then I read these posts...and I get confused.

Is HDR not obvious enough when it's activated that we have conflicting reports on when HDR is on or not?

Dynamic contrast is what we are discussing.....not HDR lol.

For some reason people think DC needs to be cranked to high to see HDR.....which is complete BS and it actually murders the brights and crushes the blacks.

If it's like any prior Samsungs I have owned then you need to turn off Anynet (HDMI-CEC).

Do the HDMI port labels have any bearing on anything? Other than HDMI4 (ARC), should certain devices be plugged into certain ports?

I'm not an expert, man. Didn't mean to insinuate I know better than anyone else...just going based on what I've read and have seen.

Your video input for the Xbox One needs to be Limited (Standard) and not Full. Xbox One "Full" is for PC monitors.

Okay, thanks. I'll make that adjustment.

*edit* If I switch it to 10, the xbox one has standard and RGB. I have it switched to standard, but on the TV I don't have the option of setting the color mode under HDMI black level, as it's blanked out when I set 10 bit. When the console is set to 8bit I have the option of normal, low and auto.

Maybe post your tv settings up.

I'm using the settings from rtings.com, with 2 levels up for brightness. When I have it set to 8 bit everything is fine. Switching to 10 bit I get crushed blacks. In 10 bit I can't see the first 15 squares lagom.nl black level test. If I set it to 8 bit I can see everything.

I stand corrected-
To anyone that has the FFXV JP demo and understands the Japanese settings
Switch HDR and pro mode.

Go to your KS8000 (using the latest firmware) settings and turn on Dynamic contrast (I prefer high) and be prepared to experience true HDR.

All other settings and options that I've tried including the OP's settings did not enable HDR on.Edit (I'm talking about the game, the TV does notify you "a hdr video is playing")

I get no crushed blacks or any of the non-sense people are talking about-
you know it's true HDR because of how realistic the shadows are and how Noctics black outfit is still detailed enough to show all the shades of black, staring at the sun is almost like stating at the real sun, Sky is perfect and blue.

One more thing I will add is that putting sharpness to 0 is a mistake (at least from what I've tested on the latest firm ware) making it go to 0 makes the image blurry.

totally amazing.

It doesn't degrade image quality, it just sends it through without post-processing, which is how most people want to see video anyway.

When the TV says that, it's because it wants you to use its shitty frame enhancing, colour popping, grain cancellation rubbish.

That's not blurry dude!

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/turn-down-your-tv-sharpness-control/

so much false info in that post. Setting DC to high isn't "true" HDR.....colors popping all the time isn't true HDR and it isn't true color. You probably set your color tone to standard and cool as well too don't you?

Sharpness should almost always be at 0 and its for a reason. Edge enhancement doesn't make a picture look better.

It's just confusion. You will just have to trust ne on this. Only way I can convince you is that u too swore each DC mode was best from low to high.

It's east to expect the wrong thing from HDR.

I promise you my setting are right and if you buy the tv you find a setting you like either way.

So....
Changing the subject slighty.

What audio setting is best, PCM or Bistream?

I have Sky HD, PS4 Pro and Xbox One connected and left it as it was when I first got it, but wondering if theres any difference?

The devices are all directly connected.

So much back and forth with dynamic contrast off or on i tweeted samsung support for the answer. They asked me for my question and i asked very specifically. Either they dont even know or they are reading this thread looking for the answer.

If anyone has a chance to test DC with FFXV let me know,
the difference is day and night- and the settings on the OP made my KS8000 55" look like an old western 40's sepia movie. lol

Please note: I haven't tested any other HDR content outside of the FFXV demo-
DC does nothing for non HDR to be fair.

I'm willing to test other HDR content, I'll check to see if Amazon has any HDR content - I think I saw the man in the castle in UHD
I'm not sure if that will give me HDR- I doubt it because the TV does let you know when HDR is available.

@philooch Phil, we do not have a recommendation but more of a personal preference to the consumer. Thank You ^Heath

I thought the hdr patch was coming in december for ff xv ?

No, it's available now for the Japanese judgment demo
released a few days back.

Edit: http://www.jp.playstation.com/software/title/jp0082cusa07048_00finalfantasyxvtr.html

here's how to enable HDR
http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/11...rate-graphics-settings-screenshot-comparison/

almost at the end of the video the guy records off screen to try to show hdr,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew0_5fF0WaM
it's similar to how my setting actually look like - but offscreen does not do justice, in all seriousness is a game changer,
you honestly think you have now fast forward to PS5 type of graphics, going back to non HDR is going to extremely hard for me,
the whole picture looks lifeless.

Don't I want to keep it at 10 bit all the time with the xbone or should I set it to 8 bit unless I'm using an HDR source like Forza?

Looking for an answer to this too.

Not sure why it doesn't have auto setting like ps4

Its OK to keep at 10-bit all the time. You will need to be in limited. The texture itself doesn't need to be 10-bit, so its OK to use on standard SDR content. It may give some improvement in darker areas of the image.

Really don't know if I've seen HDR on my tv outside of gaming. Never see a notification about HDR on any Netflix show that states it has HDR. Backlight doesn't raise itself to 20 either. I 100% have the 4k plan and have set it to best quality. And even those demos (chess, quantum dot, etc) don't seem to enable it for me. Set my settings to rtings calibration too. Any help?

If you watch the chess demo, when the video starts you should see a box with the letters hdr. It wont say "a video with hdr is playing".

For netflix, is your connection pretty good?

Ahh yes i do see that. Top left hand corner next to the date?
Edit: yeah my connection is great. I know that its streaming in 4k via the netflix info display.

There's really no argument, either set it up to industry standards, or set it up how you like.

Yes next to the date. So if you watch the dubai video, which is only 4k not hdr, it wont have that hdr next to the date.

As far as Netflix, for me it changes the settings automatically with marco polo and other hdr content like ridiculous 6.

So ridiculous changes the settings but marco and daredevil don't. Both latest seasons. And ridiculous if hdr is active doesn't look impressive at all. Maybe I'm missing the point of hdr.

IIRC Daredevil season 2 is not available in HDR. I think Marco Polo season 2 is though. Regardless, I don't find Season 1 of Daredevil in HDR or Marco Polo to be particularly impressive. The Marvel shows look terrible at 4K imo due to the HEAVY film grain applied. Best HDR showcases for me so far have been Goliath on Amazon prime and Man in the High Castle. HDR is at it's most impressive when there are multiple light sources (candles, bulbs, neon lights, car headlights) in a dark scene. Goliath in particular has a few scenes that give the picture a depth that's hard to describe.

Cool thanks ill check them out if they're free on prime.
Edit: do I need to set the quality like Netflix? Seems to be maxing out at 1080.
Edit2: found it and tv told me hdr was enabled!
