Game has some fps issues in High resolution mode, but looks almost the same as lite mode.

Running on ps4 pro on a 4k tv with HDR on

I always classify P4 as a visual novel. GAF should play more visual novels TBH. P4 isn't even the best in the bunch.

You'd cut the best part of the game, tho.

Separated the two and it would have sat better with me. If I'd even known it was closer to a visual novel instead of touted as one of the best RPG's I'd have been fine. I just never felt it lived up to that title due to being more of a visual novel. Instead it felt like the RPG elements were blocking me from the VN elements and vice versa rather than complementing each other. I'd have probably enjoyed the dating side more had it been pegged as a visual novel instead.

I wish Japan would make more stuff like Telltale's The Walking Dead in terms of production values. Having control over your character and stuff like that really adds a lot, compared to just clicking and reading.

That's what Zero Time Dilemma tried to be, but they couldn't even reach the low bar of being as technically competent as Telltale.

I just tested the demo on the high settings then I noticed the framepacing. But I thought it was really not that bad, almost the same as light mode, I think it's worth it playing using the high mode.

I think while P4 matches close to Visual Novel Stylings, it shares more of its DNA with more traditional Role playing and trying to capture the day to day life of a student with special circumstances.

You can say the same for many visual novels.

Many VNs actually have strong RPG, strategy game, or even fighting game elements. They are classified as VN only because they are made by traditional VN developers, just like Persona 4 is classified as RPG only because old Persona games are RPG and Atlus is known as a RPG developer.

Yeah, and the Steins;Gate writer hasn't really done anything else worth mentioning while Urobuchi is rather shaky in terms of quality from work to work.

I don't think there are many writers that are 100% flawless, but Urobochi track record is quite good IMO and has been succesful in different media. Psycho Pass Season 1 is still one of the best animes I saw.

And Hayashi works extend beyond Steins;Gate, he worked in Remember11 for example. And Steins;Gate 0 is getting excellent reviews.

The ultimate battle between WRPG and JRPG

Witcher 3 vs FFXV, I expect to see this thread in a month or two

Is there really a battle when the JRPG game basically become a WRPG?

FFXV fans talking shit about Witcher's combat, Witcher fans talking shit about FFXV's writing.

Both acting like it's the only thing that matters for a game.

I'm not looking forward to it.

sidenote : did anyone else's best buy orders dissappear from their order history? If i search the order number it seems to be still there but my 2 orders have completely disappeared from my order history

Uhh, yeah actually. Wtf?

Edit: My Persona 5 preorder is gone, too.

You got a Pro? :O

I wonder if they'll do anything for Persona 5 on the PS4 Pro, given how they didn't even get it at 60fps on regular PS4.

You can say the same for many visual novels.

I dunno, I need to read more Visual Novels, but I like that Time apportionment is a genuine part of the gameplay in P3 and P4 even if there's objectively a correct method with you occasionally hitting different checks. There's where I find the difference in the experience in P4 than other VNs, it feels more systematic and loose than selectively path driven.

Then again "Visual Novel" doesn't really mean much anymore in the strict sense according to you.

Yep, it juse arrived. But TBH I didn't notice many improvements using the high setting either in FF XV. It's almost the same.

Sigh, can't we all just join hands and appreciate what both games do well, while hoping future iterations improve on what they don't?

  • The side quests are boring so far. Go collect this or go collect that. Hopefully they get better. I ain't expecting TW3 levels but some story behind them would be nice.

Questions about these side quests...

- Do they at least have an intro and outro cutscene?

- Do they at least require you to visit and interesting location and face an interesting encounter?

- Can you have multiple active fetch-quests at once? Or must you cash one in before being able to take a new one?

There are numerous VNs that you need to manage your limited after school time to romance the girl you want. I don't think those are good VNs or worth playing. I just use them to justify my classification of P4 as VN.

Only difference I noticed in the Judgement demo was that the lightweight mode eliminated the frame pacing issue so I stuck with that. I think high quality has anisotropic filtering though.

Well, that's a good thing, then. Nothing making you think twice before using the Light Mode when the 60fps patch arrives :P

^Deckard Chapel, you gotta provide some context on what those spoiler tags are (like chapter so and so spoilers) cause anyone can click them and not know what the hell it is lol

Fixed :)

What Final Fantasy game has had 5-8 major cities?

VII had Midgar and Junon. VIII had Deling City and Esthar. IX had Alexandria, Treno, and Lindblum. X had Luca, Bevelle (which you couldn't even explore) and Zanarkand. XII had Rabanastre and Archades. XIII-2 had Academia and LR had Yusnaan and Luxerion.

That's only like 2-3 major cities with the rest of the game filled with villages and other varied locations.

Like you said - "2-3 major cities with the rest of the game filled with villages and other varied locations".

In FFXV, there are apparently only 2 cities in the entire game and no small towns and villages - only small settlements -_-

100% agree

This is coming from someone who platinumed Vanquish, bayonetta, and has beat Ninja gaiden black and 2 in master mode.

From what I've read so far I think I'll be fine with the way the story's presented. I like the idea of taking time to set up the world and focus on characterization before the plot goes crazy.

(Still wish they'd never made Kingsglaive and integrated the important parts of that into the game though)

I feel like I'm asking a dangerous question, but as vaguely as possible, how has Luna been received? Does she feel worthwhile, or will Stella continue to haunt these halls for years to come?

The numbers of cities is really not THAT important on the grand scheme of things tbh

What it really matters to me is how explorable they are, how many NPC are there to chat and if the games sell you the idea that those places are really alive and moving and reacting to the things you or the antagonists do.

I have the Samsung KS8000 and if you toggle an auto motion option it will make the game look and feel as if you are playing a 60 FPS game, it does come with a cost of a bit of stutter on some parts of the screen, but nothing that will detract you from playing with those options.

Point is, even if they do have a 30FPS high quality mode, this tv can give you the smoothness of a 60FPS, call it Magic if you will.

Because development is not so simple that they can just go "I think we should add some more towns and cities here" and then *poof*, it just happens. And this game was not in "development" 10 years. Its really only been 3-4 years.

There had to be other cities and towns designed during the initial Versus XIII days - we've seen them in the original trailers even. Do you mean to say they wouldn't use them, if for nothing else, to add even more places to visit in the finished game?? They could have renamed them, tweaked them etc. to fit the FFXV narrative at least.

I still feel that we will get at least 2 new towns/villages in the DLC's - maybe more. If so, it will be hard for me to not think that they were cut just to be DLC.

Just my humble opinion, mind you :)

Any impressions on the skill trees here? I haven't been very hot on the combat and I think that will be the most damning part of the game if I don't like it, but I'm not sure how much more the different skills can/will add since I couldn't read anything in the judgement demo.

This is the longest week ever. Sucks there's no way of getting the game early in the UK. Praying that ShopTo get my order to me on Saturday; they have done in the past but their recent track record tells me I'll be seeing it on Tuesday :(

Yeah I thought Xenoblade X having only the one city would bother me. But it didn't at all. It's all about how it's done.

In fact, not having to wander around and learn the paths of large cities just to find named NPCs and the shops with no other real purpose was nice. Like the first Xenoblade, I'd rather not have had Alcamoth or Frontier Village than have them. Alcamoth was just a large open space and a waste and frontier village was way to large and confusing to navigate with all levels and hanging paths.

just waiting for the game to finish installing now. reversible cover is pretty ass without the ps4 logo and rating...

Anyone find a copy of this game in the Beaverton/Portland area of Oregon? I'd love to play this game early, but I'm sure I won't be able to.

TVs have had frame interpolation tech for years - that's what causes the "soap opera effect" you'll be chiding your parents for leaving on when you go home for Thanksgiving.

I've never left it enabled, and especially not for games. I can't imagine it feels good at all since the TV is literally making up filler to double the frame rate.

Two pretty big big cities/towns is fine. I don't really equate FF quality with its town quantity. I am hoping to see more than just the Duscae plains though. Wonder how many dungeons there are. And bosses.

Is there more CGI cutscenes apart of the ones from the opening and the ending?

I didn't play yet, but you could count the movie clips as that...

There can't be many that involve the main cast since you can have different outfits at any given time. Later in the game perhaps when things "change" a bit...

Have a question on the radio playing final fantasy songs. Is it strictly mainline final fantasy games or do we have appearances from other square properties. Was just playing chrono trigger so you might understand why I ask.

No, just mainline FF for now. I won't be surprised if they add something like CT as DLC though. WoFF has some nice reference to other Sqaure classics.
