The Game Awards 2016 Thread: Kojima Time Featuring The Kojimas

Solid show I felt, andromeda looked cool but was slightly disappointed in the combat, I dunno it looked jerky to me, wonderful art style though.

On the announcement side not much for me there, can't help but feel disappointed in Microsoft, not much at E3 with new games, silent for months, with Phil Spencer stating they wouldn't be by the end of the year, so when you do reveal something, you announce a Halo Wars 1 remaster. Is that it?

It's disappointing to admit but I feel the same. It feels a bit soulless, I'm not sure what it is.

Crafting and scanning for resources..sigh. I don't doubt it'll be a good game though.

Anyway, where's Dark Souls 3 and Deus Ex?

I feel completely the opposite: it's looking even better art direction and gameplay wise than I hoped: BioWare have steered the ship from ME3 to this, I think we're looking at something special IMO.

I don't think musical acts are bad. Allows for breaks. 2 musical acts are good, but overall presentation was lacking. The speeches were good. I don't know why it was so long.

What is the appeal of Keighley? Everything i see him on has this same cringey/try-hard/shilly vibe, it infects nearly every moment. I thought this show was a new low.

I still think Jeff McHale and Loiter Squad takes the cake lol

Maybe don't put the deadline for your Game of the Year nominations one month before the year is actually over?

Award show timeliness are totally arbitrary. The MTV awards are in August, the Grammy's are in February, the Emmy awards are September, the Tony awards are in June.

There is no rule that awards must run Jan-Dec.

FFX is eligible to be nominated next year.

The simple answer is that he puts the work in (and is very connected). If he didn't these things probably would not exist.

So did Titanfall and others, but hey, you never know with the way this show is structured they both might have won something during the credits.

Lol, they really don't give a fuck about the awards in this thing. Just nonchalantly tossing them out in between ads, music and trailers.

Really botched the ending, between the bore of a Mass Effect trailer and the tired, self-fellating spiel about Overwatch being about diversity and kindness because it's a melting pot of nerd culture.

I was also a little creeped out by Geoffs Kojima speech, I felt uncomfortable. I like Hideo and have a lot of respect for him but that was unsettling.

He is one of the most passionate enthusiasts in the entire video game industry—his work reflects that very well—and he is actually knowledgeable about games, too.

The funniest moment of the whole show was totally unintentional.Giving out an award for progressive devs and then giving an award to someone that supports a group which wants to stifle any progress in the medium was fucking hilarious. They really need to stop letting the public vote on awards.

You realize basically every microtransaction-driven mobile and/or free-to-play game does this, right? It's like, the defining way this stuff works in most games these days. You can technically earn in-game currency to buy stuff but it's enough of a grind that people are motivated to just buy it for cash instead.

I'm sorry, but have you even played Overwatch?
Aside from the fact that you can't buy in-game currency in Overwatch but only loot boxes which may or may not yield in-game currency, there is also the thing said about lore being in the unlockable voice lines.

Which there isn't.

Everything you unlock in Overwatch is PURELY cosmetic. There is no story/lore related stuff hidden among these unlockables, aside from skins that REFERENCE the story/lore, but aren't needed to EXPERIENCE it.

These games awards were... less good than last year I feel. Some of the world premieres were great, but MY GOD the corporate whoring.

Like, holy shit, Kyle Bosman, what happened to you? Are you SURE you don't want in on the Easy Allies Patreon if you need money that bad?

I was going to write something snarky and sarcastic here, but I'd rather just be clear

He totally knew what he was doing, which made it more than perfectly fine.

He knows he isn't excited about Shick razors, we know he knows he isn't excited about Shick razors, it's completely over-the-top smarm.

Razorbot was funny, and announcing a PSN sale isn't the end of the world.

There's a reason the skit before the show was about self-awareness.

For a gaming show 3 years in that was pleasantly watchable.

Yup, surprisingly good. I guess my expectations weren't super high though.

So what was the game he was hyping at the preshow? Can't remember the exact quote but "most beautiful game,.., something something" sounds about right.

Don't really but its the only way I would buy the game, I don't think Multiplayer online arena games should be full priced ever.

People put more time into Overwatch than just about every other AAA game released this year.

I think the demand justifies the price, no?

Wow guess you just have to make a game with barely any content and micro transactions to win goty. Fuck story fuck narrative.

Homie, I wanted uncharted 4 to win, just as much as anyone who did. But not like this.

The show picked it's winner, that doesn't change your personal game of the year.

Don't look at others to validate your preferred choices.

Didn't really care for the show this year. Too much corporate shilling, too much nongame stuff (like why were the two non gaming musical acts there? Nothing against the music, but they feel out of place at a show that's supposed to be about honoring games and their creators, shoulda been all like the Doom music from actual games, putting the spotlight on some of the very talented composers in the industry imo), awkward pacing (I still dislike that quite a few of these awards basically happen offscreen) and even the World Premiere's weren't that interesting this year imo.

Well, hopefully PSX doesn't disappoint.
