NPD - PS4 was the top selling console of November 2016

wow

Never mind having UHD Blu Rays in their collection, I bet they didn't even have a 4K TV in their home.
SAVAGE combo!

Remember when people actually thought Xbox could win November? Good times, good times.
I thought xbox would win in the USA...well I did until I saw those UK numbers. Guess I overrated the xbox brand appeal and underrated PlayStation. Not expecting Scorpio to change MS fortune now. They should still sell a decent amount of consoles but the usa market will stay split.

I still wish the Pro had a UHD drive though. =(

So do I, but I can't be naive enough to think I was in the majority of consumers who would base their games console purchasing decisions on a non-gaming feature. It didn't happen in 2006 and it isn't happening in 2016.

They need to be more global. They can't keep relying on the US and UK. Especially when you are losing both markets. The PS4 is roughly a bit more than 20 million units ahead WW on the XB1. It won't even reach 80 million sold even with the scorpio launch at this pace.

I don't think they can to be honest. Sony's been putting in the hard yards globally for decades now. The fact that PS4 has maintained pace with the PS2 despite sizeable decreases in Japan shows that they've successfully tapped new markets to make up the deficit, and those audiences are all ingrained into the PlayStation brand now.

Obviously things can change, but Sony's really boxed Microsoft out. It's going to be very difficult and take a long time for them to turn it around -- and there are no signs that Sony's grip is going to weaken.

Yeah definitely agreed. I never thought it would make a difference either. UHD adoption at this point compared to Blu-ray adoption at the time of the PS3's release is not even close, and that didn't even help the PS3. I think people who thought it would make a difference, were more hoping it would make a difference, because well you know why.

It's Microsoft; of course they can. I know Xbox division isn't privvy to all of MS's funds or anything like that, but they obviously have the financial wherewithal to open international development studios or even start catering to the rest of the world when it comes to simple things like having all the languages for the different regions in the UI and whatnot. Support in the rest of the world requires long-term work, not what MS has been doing which is barely putting in any effort and then giving up like they did with Asia. They can do it, but the question is will they?

Selling 60% of the total in just 3 countries isn't exacly a worldwide appeal.
But you do realise this 40% is about same if not more than XB1 lifetime sale to date right?

Being an ex-360 owner it always disgust to me to see people downplaying 360 in WW

more than 4000 posts! no...more than 4000 funny posts :)

it's always funny to get back to these huge threads full of hyperbole and lack of insight. this one and the 2012 prediction thread were almost everyone predicted Sony's out of the console games industry. funny stuff..
Yeah, I try to stay away from threads that are trying to predict sales for the future. Usually post are mixed with emotions and people aren't thinking logically. Just like when the Pro and Scorpio was announced.

Lack of a UHD Bluray drive didn't stop me from buying a PS4 Pro, but it did ensure that I also got an Xbox One S.

*shrug*

Sony pouring one for Bish. Sony-GAF came back to honour a legend. Good guy Sony.

this would have been embarrassing if they lost tbh

A company winning the month where they released a new console is not really something of note tho.

Sony complete dominance at the beggining of this gen?

Same could be said for the Scorpio tho.

Oh come on man...

That's in line with Phil Spencer's directive though. He didn't want to encourage console wars, so celebrating console demand in general makes sense.

He can do that by not engaging toxic people like timdog and having him out at events.

One of Sony's strengths right from the start has been a good localisation in Europe. It didn't help when XBO was launched in tiers in Europe, and Kinect's voice recognition didn't work with all languages.

Like I and many others said Sony does not need a big holiday game.

The holidays are always overflowing with third party games.

At least we can look forward to some entertaining MS spin. Their spin was so boring when they won the NDP.

What have Microsoft turned around?

It's quite possible that Xbox One will end 2016 further behind PS4 than in any previous December this generation. I don't just mean furthest behind in absolute units, either. They could be behind by the largest year-end percentage as well...even though as installed base goes up, raising the percentage of win gets harder.

Hmm. Wasn't there a report saying MS won BF? I guess whatever the margin was, it wasn't enough to make a difference.

Congrats to Sony in any case. I hope that by this time, next year, we'll be looking at very healthy sales for all 3 manufacturers once more! :) Scorpio and Switch can really shake up things for both MS and Nintendo in a very positive way.

That report was only for online sales.
