And people say Nintendo doesn't know mobile gaming....they are fitting right in!
I thought mario run was for ios 10 only? Therefore the its because of piracy comments are null and void?
"We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the [Super Mario Run] modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure."
the fuck does that even mean?
Remember Sonic Runners? Yeah that game. That game has closed its servers and the game is now unplayable.
Nintendo are asking $8 for a game that may not work 3 years from now.
Pair of jokers.
Uh, how many people are playing the same game (especially a mobile game) 3 YEARS after purchase? I'd say a tiny, tiny minority. So yeah, not that outrageous, even given your hypothetical, fictional scenario which has no chance of coming to pass unless Nintendo goes completely out of business . Some of you are reaching really, really hard to try and pretend this game is "overpriced". That's the joke.

I think you can sideload apps though. But then again, I'm not sure if this stops that.
It's a mobile game, so... I kinda get it?
But it's still dumb.
Why wouldn't you be able to play it on the bus?Oh, so at least there's a good reason for this -
Oh. Never mind, it's just another company deciding to screw over its regular consumers to combat a relatively-negligible amount of piracy. Good, good. Carry on as usual, then.
It's such a damn shame, this could have been a good game and I would have almost certainly picked it up, but now I have no interest whatsoever. What's the point if I can't play it on the bus?

My bus commute goes through areas that I do not have a stable internet connection during, and besides that I would rather not use up my rather small data plan, which I keep primarily for emergencies. If you have 4g you can play it?
I don't understand the issue?
Our phones have internet access all the time?
We don't know how much data this spends, it's likely a neglectable amount. My bus commute goes through areas that I do not have a stable internet connection during, and besides that I would rather not use up my rather small data plan, which I keep primarily for emergencies.
I hope it's internet connection requirement is front and center so the millions that want to play games on the NYC train system don't bother with this game.

I play iOS games when I am beneath the surface of the earth, where radiowaves can't penetrate. If you have 4g you can play it?

This seems like a really bad move on their part. The only time I play mobile games (other than Pokemon Go) is when I don't have an internet connection and can't just be surfing the web.

Yep my iPad doesn't even have data. Fucking genius Nintendo.Isn't this game hitting iPad? That alone makes the entire 'hurr durr wh cares cuz it's on mobile' argument completely moot.
I don't like playing games on a phone. I have a nice tablet for that.
Even if you have an unlimited plan you still lose connection in some areas, most notably during commuting which was the main draw of the game for me.I keep forgetting how many people in the world, and specifically in the US, don't have a proper mobile data plan while buying high-end devices. In France you can easily get 20GB/month for 10. We're lucky.
Obviously always-online becomes a non-issue in this case.
Are people really this ignorant to the notion that people prefer edge-to-edge screens or at least screens that get closer to that goal?suddenly everyone turns their data off when playing mobile games, just like suddenly everyone started to hate bezels...
'Our' phones being split across different countries, data plans and transport networks (some of which being underground), I think you are casting the net a bit wide to suggest everyone is in the same boat.If you have 4g you can play it?

Yeah, it's like...what is the possible motivation in defending bs like this?I can't believe how many apologists there are for this practice.
Even on the overground part of my commute, there are three black spots that wreck any attempt to play an always-online mobile game.Makes you wonder where people live and their daily doings that they never deal with a blackout area.
Even the largest cities on the planet, places that have the best of everything, finding dead zones is common, and forget it if you ever use a subway
