Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I think I need to reflect on this.

I know its just a game ,but for many of us it had a lot more hanging on it.Its something thats worth reconsidering...It feels quite destructive at the moment.Like the loss of something dear.

I am trying to have a different perspective on this...

Maybe its wrong to anticipate a game so much, but then to be pessimistic about every game from here on out is not the solution.
Nah anticipation isn't wrong, caring to a large degree isn't wrong, XV has just had an utterly abnormal history and warning signs all over that it wouldn't be what people dreamed of. Frankly it's a miracle to me the game isn't actually on fire.

In the future just put a little more stock on how well the production seems to be going and adjust expectations accordingly. Hype still has a place

This will never cease to crack me up.

I want that Noctis costume. I'd even get an overpriced season pass for it, if it were only included in that. .___.

This is pretty much how I feel too having completed it the other night. I killed Ardyn and then I was like... wait THAT'S it? A 15 hour story… I was so getting ready for Old Noct to open up a part 3 of the game with Iris shown 10 years later and Aranea but nope we can't have that. Keep in mind that I didn't read leaks so I was unbelievably shocked by Luna's death, shocked Gentiana wasn't as important as SE made her seem and ultimately shocked the game was short as hell in story. Tabata himself said it was 40-50 hours just for story as an estimate didn't he? How does he think fans feel that the game can be bum rushed in 15 hours? There was no connection to support characters. It was an unbelievable mess for me. They obviously cut so much stuff.... Solheim isn't present in the game at all and none of the countries are explorable except Lucis which is the complete opposite of what was said. But no, I will not get hyped for XVI or... the VII remake after this mess. I know, when they dangle the carrot in front of me I'm going to go holy shite but hey I'll remember always that XV was disappointing!

Keeping your expectations in check is the way to go after FFXV.

okay, i know costlemark soured most of you on the combat, but its actually cementing some things i use little of or didn't need as being cool af.

I fought 3 red giants a Nagarani and a bunch of flans and just couldn't get around using regular combat. Too many enemies, my team mates all died, it was insane.

Switched over to wait mode and treated it as a Srpg or something close and the battle became a LOT easier. ring for dodging, magic for blasting damage, spear for warping and daggers for dps. Wait mode makes handling tones of enemies dope. problem is the black hood auto dodges so its not really as compatible with wait mode as I'd like it to be, but i'll learn to live with it.

Who is this person that did it in 15 hours? Because no way in hell can you be leveled enough to deal with some enemies let alone bosses after 15 hours in this game. 20, MAYBE 19 hours but no way in hell 15.
I agree with you on the 50 hour remark. That was blatantly untrue.
Gentiana is LITERALLY a god and a summon in the game. Not only that, she's basically the one who got shit rolling to save humanity. I'd say that's pretty freakin important.
Solheim isn't a country in the world. It was what Niflheim was or was founded on.

I know you didn't say it in this post , but you constantly say it, so I'll point it out. Tabata said the stuff about luna in the party a long while ago, but in a later ATR was asked the question again and said that she would not be in the party "but that you would aid her in her battle instead" (which is sort of true considering Leviathan).

Honestly (i'm probably the only one that thinks this), FF15 does a lot that I legit like and does things that i really really hope translate into future titles. I do NOT want to return to a ff12-style zoning where characters have shit running animations, where enemy positioning doesn't matter and they can attack you from 5 feet away and you trek around 1000 miles of sand with no alteration to music and no interaction of the character in the party.

I am personally super excited to see what comes next. Package in a great story, with great narrative, and iterate in parts of this game and it'll one for the books!

It's definitely going to be playable at some point, whether as part of a patch, DLC or, failing everything, PC model swapping. The bigger question is whether an official inclusion will let us use the head model - the costume wouldn't look as good with young Noctis or unshaven older Noctis.

I have no idea but I was reading people did it that fast. Gentiana may be a god but the closure and story with her made me not care for her. There's also not enough scenes with her and Luna interacting. Oh, okay but is Solheim different than Niflheim or are they the same thing?

Wasn't that when he said she's distant but Noct can't reach her? I don't recall him saying that Luna won't join. It is sort of true and you're right about that but none of those scenes showed any major impact for me since she was fridged right after.

I do wish there was some kind of post-game plot line :(
Oh how i wish there was world of ruin side quests :'(

DLC/patches!

Yeh, as someone said, it was their Final Fantasy.

Well said :)

That Amano artwork definitely has Odin all the way to the right of the image. Hm...DLC maybe? 🤓

Let's hope!

there are only 6 bosses in the game. The three summons, Aranea, Ravus, and Ardyn (only regular form listed, no Armiger).

There are so, so, so many more than that!!

They're not taking into account the many boss/super-boss enemies that are optional hunts/found in hidden dungeons/Legendary Weapon quests or any of the post-game content.

There's a whole lot more than 6 LOL!

The mutated Dualhorn at the start

Loqi

Naga in Ramuh cave

Dragon thingoo at the end of Mythril dungeon

Deathclaw

all non-optional, and off-top of head. Forgetting a whole bunch more.

I waited since 2006, too, but I willed myself not to keep up with news more than a handful of times a year by 2008 or so. I'm glad I did.

I like this game, but not in the way I was looking for. I hope the patches and DLC help. I don't think it will be very memorable to me in the long run if the narrative doesn't get some more meat on its bones.

It has some amazing highs, though. And damn, some of the emotional beats get me despite the threadbare nature of the story.

Yep. And there are more. The six bosses thing seems... odd.

First time using the Type-F and as I come into to land, everything is going smoothly until a street lamp spawns in at the last minute damages the car and we all crash and burn...

Thankfully I had saved before getting in.

I kinda wonder how Iris hunts daemons 10 years later. I wish there was some dialogue Gladio could tell you about it but I suppose it wasn't important enough since it is Noct's story and he had to give his life asap.

i assume its the same way she one shots MT's in chapter 8. Iris is a badass even prior to the 10 year skip

I couldn't enjoy the gameplay even.

Far outclassed years ago by the KH series.Completely out done by the likes of Souls series.

I am gutted.

I can't even compare FFXV's battle system to those games because they are like totally different styles even if all of them are in real time ^_^

I see it as a very evolved version of Crisis Core's / Type 0 battle system

Or an evolution of FFXII's but missing key parts where FFXII was actually great at

About the ending, i think it's the best in the whole series, but everything else about its story is weak

Just beat the game, and I'm pretty happy with the ending. It's obvious the game was poorly stitched together, but looking past that I think the end sequence was really strong and the group dynamic/characters were great.

I also loved Ardyn, but I wish they could have fleshed him out more.

Stuff I want added in patches (as in free DLC, as in not part of a season pass or anything involving money):

-Bestiary: This game has some fantastic enemy designs and the quality is insane. Let me look at them and zoom in and rotate. Same for the characters.

-Noctis black suit: The one under the Kings Raiment. The one that shows up at the end of the Ardyn fight. I know there is the Royal Raiment from the deluxe editions, I've got it and use it post game. But I want that sweeeeet all black suit. Also sure, throw in his wedding/throne suit too.

-Toggle for time jump models: Let me play around in post game past times with the 10 year older characters. I know it's just a cosmetic thing but it'd be a nice thing.

- Post game 5th member select: Post game let me go to a place and grab someone as the 5th member. Fine, if you don't want me to pick Aranea because you want her bugged out "drop in, drop out" mechanic to be a thing then just let me pick up Cor or Iris.

I don't think those things are too much to ask for an update. The suits are already in the game and I don't see a reason not to let people use them, a model viewer might be harder but it's been done before and doesn't require too much effort to implement, not asking for new models or recorded dialouge.

It was amazing. I've watched the epilogue about twenty times since finishing the game, it's perfect.

Oh you like love stories where the people never meet outside of a death scene? You love The Lake House?

Luna and Noctis were a pathetic couple, which is funny considering you have an avatar of Squall and Rinoa who actually interacted throughout almost the entirety of VIII.

Eat the food that negates elemental damage = they can't hurt you (I'm pretty sure).

So I finally dug into the collectors edition guide more and it's interesting that under Bosses under bestiary, there are only 6 bosses in the game. The three summons, Aranea, Ravus, and Ardyn (only regular form listed, no Armiger). Now two of those aren't real boss fights, more set pieces (Leviathan can be considered a real one I guess). What's most interesting is Ravus has the highest strength and HP. Ifrit's listed HP is something like 99k (again, not sure which form they're referring to but I assume it's post Bahamut). Ardyn has 200k HP and Ravus has a whooping 285k and something like double the strength stat of the other two.

Bloodhorn
Loqi
Titan
Leviathan
Aranea
Deathclaw
Behemoth King
Quetzalcoatl
Bandersnatch
Trent
Ravus
Ifrit
Leviathan
Marlboro
Foras (Iedolas)
Mindflayers
Ardyn
Chadarnook
Griffon
Naga
Loqi and Caligo

That's off the top of my head. There's more. I believe there are like, 20-something non optional bosses. Over 50 optional.

If you're not exploring and finding bosses to fight, you're doing it wrong.

He was just talking about what the guide lists as "bosses", which are the main story line bosses. There are obviously tougher fights than those in the optional content.

I liked that they never met until she died. Having a FF relationship end in tragedy is an interesting take imo. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and that's mine.

It's not a relationship. Their only communication is via short messages in a book. In a world where phones exist.

But I mean it's cool if you think that's a healthy love story. "Hey Noctis marry this girl you met briefly as a kid" "Okay cool I'll guess we're in love then" "Welp we dead" "Guess we should make out in the afterlife"

This keeps giving me goosebumps, the whole epilogue was beautiful.

The problem is that we all know that this scene is forced.
Isn't the lady at the logo supposed to be someone else?
Also the inclusion of Noctis on it is the most disgusting things I ever saw in any FF game.

It's not about like. There's literally no love story there to justify that ending. If you'd like to point out scenes in the game where they developed any kind of connection as adults, I'd love for you to do that, because either I missed them or they're just not there.

Its not there. Noctis barely talks about her and the wedding feels more or less forced due to politics. There is some stuff with them as children, where she says she'll be his guardian or something. But I never had the idea they were both in it. There is simply zero development.

Towards the end when Ardyn taunts him about watching his "beloved" die I paused for a few seconds trying to think who he meant till I realised it must have been Luna lol.

The idea some kids who last met when they were 12 were in love and meant to be some 10 years later is nonsense. It doesn't help that the game presents the wedding as purely for political reasons for almost the entire thing.

Is the Ifrit boss battle repeatable if you leave Insomnia and return, or will doing the little mini-quest for Nyx Ulrich's Daggers mean that you can never fight Ifrit again on that save file?

If it's the latter, I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather be able to leave the endgame fights there to replay when I get the whim.

Yes, Lightning.

Someone please gif that in.

Their love story is one that is very much a trope of ancient times. It is a relic of a bygone age.

Writing letters to each other since their childhood, arranged to marry for the sake of the kingdom, seen tragedies together.

Frankly some of us find that endearing at times. I would hate for all love stories to be like this. But in this one instance I believed it and thus found the epilogue fantastic.

My commiserations for your opinion on it.

That would may had any meaning, if a could give a damn about Luna and that awful, supposed, romance.

I liked that they never met until she died. Having a FF relationship end in tragedy is an interesting take imo. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and that's mine.

I liked FF X ending, now that was a real tragedy over a somewhat well developed relationship. In FF XV? I don't feel anything.

Okay, what trope has them never interact as adults? Is it intentional that there's seemingly no romantic interest between the two? Do you have any examples of texts that do this well?

I'm willing to go down the TV Tropes wormhole if you'll get me started.

Was it thought?

That part was fucking terrible. Absolutely unearned.

That.

Where was the romance in this? There was NOTHING between these characters. NOTHING. We didn't even get to know Luna, then all of a sudden they're the fucking opening screen of the game?! Come on, they're just childhood friends who couldn't even reunite to catch up after 15 or whatever years. We didn't even know them. There was no build up no romance no nothing. Just an arrange marriage they both seemed contempt with. This whole aspect of the game is a real hot mess imo.

I liked FF X ending, now that was a real tragedy over a somewhat well developed relationship. In FF XV? I don't feel anything.

Same. For me to feel anything when a tragedy happens I need to relate to these characters and their situation. The only thing I felt when Luna died was 'wow that was soon, we didn't even get to talk to her'. They had nothing between them, romance cannot start at the age of 8 or however old they were as kids. They were just childhood friends holding onto precious memories, there was no romance. Romance is travelling together and falling in love over time, like FFX did it. This is a poor imitation.

Finished the game finally

I felt...nothing?

Like absolutely nothing

The opening sequence with the boyband pushing the car with Stand by Me playing into the title drop had more emotional charge for me than the whole fuckin ending

Wasted characters, the game

Did anyone figure out the deal with the naga's baby? I wonder if that was supposed to be the other naga in crestholm?

Later in the game it is explained that Niflheim took people from the villages and turned them into daemons. It is possible that they took a woman and her baby, and turned them into daemons. She is still looking for her baby, asking what did "they" do to him.

Completely forgot about that. Maybe it was supposed to be part of a sidequest or something? And could have played into the whole "demons are really people" thing. Shame it seemingly went nowhere as thinking back to that bit it was pretty disturbing.

Yep. This is what happened if we go by the Daemons being humans story. Kind of creepy that she still retained her memory though.
