From /r/StarWarsLeaks:

  • The Ghost can be seen in no fewer than four shots, the two from the TV spots, one on Yavin 4 the first time we visit it, and another space battle shot, from the perspective of Admiral Raddus' bridge.
  • VCX-100 is said over the intercom, which is the model number of the Ghost.
  • "General Syndulla" is said over the intercom
  • Chopper shows up (only one I missed) reportedly in the scene where Mon Monthma is learning about the Scarif attack.
  • Sato's CR-90, "Liberator", can be seen in two space battle shots. The clearest one is the shot of the TIEs striking Raddus' command ship.
  • Hammerhead Cruisers
  • Steve Blum (voice of Zeb) clearly continued his moonlighting as Imperial Stormtroopers.

As a Rebels fan this brings me great joy as well. Good to know it's so greatly interconnected. Did Steve Blum really voice some of the Stormtroopers in the film? That's awesome.

Some of you are crazy, this was the 2nd or 3rd best Star Wars of all.
Also took a huge shit on Force Awakens for me personally.

Not even close, while TFA was totally familiar at least it had a deliberate style and some neat editing to keep us engaged.

Rogue One was boring as sin and the real fuckin' heroes were the CGI artists who slaved away.

It's not just that the Cruiser was able to push an object thousands of times its mass, but that it was able to push it to a velocity fast enough to make it cut through another Star Destroyer.

A tugboat can push/pull a freighter, but if that tugboat tries to guide Freighter A into Freighter B, then A isn't going to rip B into shreds like that. At best they will grind together and bounce off one another.

Maybe Star Destroyer hulls are can openers

Rogue One was incredibly boring.
Plot moves at a snails pace, characters are all under-developed, and overall one of my least favorite Star Wars movies to date.

Holy shit, that was amazeballs. Far better than TFA. Best Star Wars battle since Hoth. Absolutely amazing stuff there.

The "cameos" were some bullshit CGI though, but I'm not sure I'd prefer that they not do them or do clever stuff like not seeing the faces.

Darth Vader's "shit's about to get real" moment...fantastic.

More than serviceable first half (this is not a complaint) -- some people say first 2/3rds, but I feel it kicks fully into gear half way in and it never looks back. Fucking fantastic.

I thought the scene was fucking cool and a pretty novel concept. The physics of it don't really bother me at all.

Okay, here's the one thing that's really, really bugging me, and I'm hoping to God I just missed it...

Did anyone notice the Whilhelm scream? No way they excluded it, right????!

Alot of the characters felt underdeveloped, or just not enough was done with them. I would have liked Jyn to interact with Bohdi more. It just seems like she'd like to talk to the one guy that still really knew her dad...

They also leaned a bit too hard on the fan-service. I had no problem with Tarkin but the Leia CG was really terrible. I just really didn't need to see Leia, or even the Tantaive IV. If the movie just ended with a close up of a monitor saying 'TRANSMISSION RECEIVED', I would have been satisfied. Plus all the shots of old pilots from ANH was just so bizarre.

The action was solid though. Last act was rad, especially the Vader scene. Even if I didn't care so much for Cassian, him being this morally compromised dude was an interesting angle. Some gorgeous visuals, and the weight of the Death Star being this fucking nuclear bomb was pretty great.

Donnie Yen and K2SO are the obvious highlights.

Ultimately really enjoyed it, just had a pretty awkwardly paced and sorta detached opening act. 7/10 for me.

To be fair, the Star Destroyer sinking into the Death Star in ROTJ (as if it's suddenly subject to gravity) doesn't make much sense either, but it's pretty cool.

What in this fuck is going on here? Rogue One was fantastic. It fleshes out the rebel struggle better than any of the other movies. The space battles and ground battles were great.
And how the hell can you hate that ending sequence with Vader?

I hope it's not in the film. I think there honestly often to be a 20-30 year moratorium on the Wilhelm scream. It's just too cutesy to try and sneak it in now.

I feel like other movies use it too much, but for Star Wars it's tradition. But if there is a ban on Wilhelm's scream, at least have Wilhelm's accompanied grunt that is present in most of the movies, as well.

It was alright. Gf surpised me with tickets for tonight for my birthday. Sucks since I made plans to see it in the am with a friend. So ill see it again tomorrow.

Thought we would have a better Vader being a badass scene. Going in expecting everyone to die and they all did. Vader living on modor was odd.

I hate when they force in the title in a scene. We are Rogue One was lame.

Unless I somehow missed it, which I really doubt, it wasn't there. But it's not a Saga film either. I don't think the standard traditions are necessary here, and they already dropped or played with most of the others. (no crawl, abbreviated "bad feeling", no static closing shot [though TFA already heavily "tweaked" that])

That was the corniest line in a film full of corny lines.
I swear if some of this shit was said in empire you guys would be jerking off to it.

The hyperbole is real. This thread is the real dumpster fire, Christ. What did I just step into?

At worst this is an average film.

WHAAAAAAAAAT?, tarkin was fucking terrible, uncanny valley all the freaking way.

I liked it, but the main issue for me is that he emoted too much. Cushing played it with a very stiff sternness, whereas this one had some proper expressions going on. But I thought it looked real damn good, regardless!

Watched it tonight. Not bad. First half was a little slow. Tarkin cgi was iffy. Reminded me of Dobby. Leia looked good though.

Shoutouts to Gary Whitta if he still reads gaf. Nice job.

This is how it was with TFA too. Lots of people loving it, lots of people taking the tiniest things and blowing them out of proportion.

My one major problem with the movie was the score.
Legitimately 3 great moments but everything else was so bland.
I hated TFA's soundtrack besides 1 track but man this was worse.

Tarkin looked off for me but two friends I went with didn't notice it at all. They're not the biggest Star Wars fans so they didn't know who Tarkin was.

I had no problem with cgi Leia.

I actually agree with this. There were moments where I just wanted the Star Wars theme but it was like a bootleg version of it.

Wait so do we know who the guy that kneeled was? Just some random Imperial loyalist or something?

When did someone kneel?

Just got out. Initial reactions are the movie is pretty great and DARTH VADER HAS A FUCKING CASTLE.

Vader's mordor castle is the best. Even though the holiness of the Jedi has been snuffed out. The Sith have their own "temple" of sorts and still retain a ritualistic aesthetic to them. I dig it a lot and it paints a much cleaner picture of the hierarchy of the empire.

Holy shit, that movie was absolutely fantastic. I would rank it so far above The Force Awakens it's not even funny. Felicity Jones sold Jyn Erso as a character and her relationship with Mads Mikkelsen as her father nearly brought me to tears. Diego Luna played Cass incredibly nuanced to show both the good and the bad of the rebellion. Donnie Yen was absolutely badass and brought the spiritual side of the Force down to a somewhat more grounded level. Krennic was played perfectly to a tee, and his character was so much more richer after I read Star Wars Catalyst so I can see why this frustration and greed feeds him and pushed him to the point of having his own creation kill him. Everyone's death was so well executed (no pun intended).

Now let's talk about the fan service because my god was it well done. The resurrection of Grand Moff Tarkin was incredible. He was more in this movie than he was in Episode IV and it totally fits. Despite his large role in Catalyst, I really thought he would still be little more than a cameo, but his large role was so needed to bring that insight into how the Empire operates and how even within it there are factions fighting against each other. I really thought the CG would bother me, but I was endlessly impressed with how real it looked even with the close up.

Darth Vader was the next round of massive fan service and my goodness they did him justice. From the gigantic shadow casting over Krennic to his line "Do not choke over your aspirations" while he's Force choking him was so freaking good. Of course, the killer moment was at the end when he slaughters the rebels before they escape. The subdued yet powerful Force powers he showcased were incredible. He didn't need to flip around or do some prequel shit. All he needed was to deflect the lasers with his lightsaber, maybe push a dude or two into the celing and walls, and perhaps strike through the heart of a rebel through the door. So. Freaking. Good.

Finally, the crunch at the end. Opening the doors and there she is. Princess Leia. Jimmy Smits's Bail Organa was fantastically implemented and to be honest I was wondering if that was all we would hear about Leia as "someone [he] trusts with [his] life" (plus the sick Obi Wan reference). I also really wasn't sure if we would see her face, and if we were to see her face how good the CGI would be. But man, they sold it. Her face wasn't as convincing as Tarkin's but that may have had to do with the brighter lighting, but my goodness the way they conducted that scene was pitch perfect.

God I love this movie. I left the theater with a huge smile on my face. 9.5/10

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. I was really surprised at how much I loved it. During the entire third act and the ending I had a huge smile on my face.

My only, and very minor complaint is due to the overall plot of the film, and the way it was inevitably going to end, there is a noticeable lack of character development. I personally would have loved to have learned more about the characters (the blind soldier, his mercenary buddy, etc) because they were really that interesting.

Also, I saw in 3D, and I felt like there was a little too much depth of field at times.

Still in the grand scheme of things this is really nitpicking. Rogue One is easily one of, if not my favorite film in the franchise, and the entire third act and ending is my favorite part of the series, hands down. I felt like a child again during that whole sequence.

I'm glad they finally managed to throw that in. That concept go back to the OT days and they even planned it for TFA at one point in development. I wonder if getting scrapped there made the Rogue One team want to pick it up and bring it over (granted, the design was quite different for TFA).

Would have been really cool if TFA did have it, crumbling and abandoned, and then we saw it actually in use here. Though hey, maybe they'll visit the castle in VIII or IX? Plenty of opportunity for that.
