It's not Greedo.

You guys know Wookieepedia exists and you can easily check this stuff right?

starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Greedo

from the Canon page, mind you:

Originally from the planet Rodia, in his youth Greedo lived on Tatooine in Mos Espa alongside fellow Rodian Wald and Anakin Skywalker. When young Skywalker won the Boonta Eve Classic, Greedo accused him of cheating, and the two boys scuffled. Their fight was broken up by Qui-Gon Jinn, and Wald warned Greedo that if he continued his violent ways, he would meet a 'bad end'.

I just got out of this film and feel super conflicted on it. It was a good space action film but it felt like a not great Star Wars film. Definitely more like a movie set within the Star Wars universe, rather than an actual Star Wars movie.

As predictable as everyone dying was, the downer nature of the ending still soured me a bit honestly.

Tarkin's CGI stood out, largely due to how many scenes he was in, but I thought Leia was fine.

I have not sent any statement from Pablo or such that deleted scenes are canon unless he's in the TPM novelization or something.

But everyone here is thinking of Wald anyway, the one who is actually in the movie.

That Vader scene in the middle was... really bad. Like, completely threw me out of the movie bad.

I feel like the longer I stay, the more rapid it becomes time...

...time for the urn.

Incredible.

But seriously, stay.

Hell no. It had the best joke in the movie. Best one-liner, too.

why didn't Vader use the force to grab the plans and then leave

I didn't feel this part played out too well. The guy with the plans was scrabbling at the door for too long, long after it seemed like the last of the guys on the other side would have completely disappeared. With that size of crack I wanted him to shout HEY at the last of them and just give him the plans.

I need to stop posting my nitpicks though. I am glad this movie exists and is as good as it is!

Loved it. Didn't grab me emotionally like TFA did but it's a great fun film. Giacchino knocked it out of the park with the soundtrack, and Krennic's theme in particular. The segment at the end where we see Vader's power was amazing as well.

Also people complaining about fan service FML.

Boy, Han and Vader could have been tight if Vader just knew that his childhood bully was offed by this guy...

Then Vader would be like "No shit! By the way, that gold protocol droid? Is that C-3PO?"

"Fuck, yeah man. Why you ask?"

"Oh shit! I built him when I was 10!"

"No fucking way! Shit... well you want him back?"

"Hahahaha naw bro. Here let's get you out of this torture chair."

He thought as long as he had the plans, he was going to be a main character. Then he realized all the main characters already died and just said "fuck it."

If Darth Vader was marching his way toward me mercilessly killing my friends with great ease, I'd be trying to open that door with my teeth.

Just got back. I absolutely loved it.

only thing I didn't lurve was the CG Tarkin and Leia. More to the point Tarkin felt like a completely different character to the one in a New Hope.

So sad they all died. It's like things came full circle and Star Wars did Blake's 7.

It delivered on Vader, which was the most important part I guess. Was not expecting to get that.

I second the first Vader scene being kinda silly. The segment of his costume where the mask meets cloak look very rubbery and fake and the way the cinematography framed his shots during dialogue felt odd.

Gotta love JEJ though. I don't know what they're going to do when he passes, other voice actors that try and do it just don't have it.

I honestly had no idea they were CGI. That blows my mind.

I can't possibly understand this. They were worse than Ant-Man Michael Douglas. Looked like Kojima's work which, ableit is great for a video game, looks so weird when surrounded by real people. There's too many nuances in people's expressions, even minimal expressions, I don't know if we'll ever be able to nail it.

Now how do you get them in Han Solo and the Obi Wan movie...?

I'm sure R2 was fucking around with Obi-Wan for a bit.

Thought the movie was great, and didn't mind CG Tarkin (my wife had no idea he was CG) but I could have done without the Leia. End it 5 seconds earlier and it would have been much better. Some real hype parts though.

Pablo has said the deleted scenes are for the most part canonical on twitter.

Loved it!

No complaints other than CGI characters, but just went with it.

That Vader scene was a hell of a way to close the movie. That was straight horror movie level stuff. They could have just as easily Jason or Michael Myers at the end of the hall. Really helped build his legacy as a top tier villain.

We even got to see the Red 5 pilot that Luke replaced. Boom!

Leia: Darth Vader. Only you could be so bold. The Imperial Senate will not sit still for this. When they hear you've attacked a diplomatic...

Darth Vader: Don't act so surprised, Your Highness. You weren't on any mercy mission this time. Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you.

Leia: I don't know what you're talking about. I am a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan...

Vader be like:

I mean it's logical that he wanted to gtfo, but it seemed to me that the people on the other side were long gone, until enough dramatic Vader going apeshit moments had elapsed, and then suddenly oh, here conveniently hanging about colleague, have the Death Star plans this whole fandango has been about. Seemed a stilted and awkward sequence to me.

Perhaps it was because I saw it in 3D? Idk.

"Where are those transmissions you intercepted. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THOSE PLANS"
"We intercepted no trans--"
"MOTHERFUCKER I JUST SAW YOU TRY TO SKIRT OUT WITH 'EM"
"--This is a consular ship! We're on a dip--"
"You're just gonna pretend like I didn't literally read your goddamn LICENSE PLATE as you jumped?"

This was a good Star Wars movie. Came out really satisfied, which I honestly didn't expect after TFA and learning that there's a blind monk in this one.

It's not perfect, but it captures the sense of adventure so much better than TFA did. It wasn't overly dark like the prequels ("kill the little ones" etc) but it struck the right balance. TFA felt like a children's film to me.

Overall, I was very disappointed by TFA but liked this movie quite a bit. Very enjoyable characters, set pieces, and it enhances my enjoyment of ANH.

The editing was pretty bad for this scene. At one point Vader turns and points in one direction, and then it suddenly cuts to him suddenly facing the other way. Was a really odd moment that took me right out of an otherwise good film, and made his voice feel rather disembodied.

I was actually gonna ask if the 3D made it worse, I saw it in 3D as well.

Do you play a lot of games? Serious question. Not sure if seeing more animated stuff like that helps you see it more.

I do yeah. Tbh when Leia first appeared something felt 'off', like she looked too perfect, but CGI didn't come to mind while seeing it.

I was honestly surprised by Leia and I didn't think it was CG'd myself.

Anyway I liked the movie well enough though I felt the middle of it was kinda mediocre. I hated Jyn's speech at the Yavin 4 Rebel meeting thing, it felt really awkward. Something felt a bit off with Vader in the middle as well, though I can't figure out what (no, not the whole "choke" joke).

While I did like the movie I really didn't feel anything for any of the characters besides K-2. Best robot ever.

Also I never realized that the bridge of those mon calamari ships was down on that little stalactite thing. That seems like a really dangerous place.

I ain't did nuthin! I swears! Check my pockets, they clean. Ya'll always trying pin shit on nerf herders from Alderaan.

Hers is the only one that pissed me off. I get Tarkin. He's awesome and a movie focused around the Death Star wouldn't make sense if he was completely absent.

Leia didn't need to be shown. Open the door, show the back of her robe, end movie. Done. Super cool, super chill, no creepy CPR-testing-mannequin-lookin' Leia needed.

Yup. She could even still deliver the line. Just have the camera slowly zoom in on her head from the back then cut to credits. It works fine and then the 'reveal' is still saved for Ep IV

I think ILM was feeling themselves too much after they inserted a dead actor in the movie. Lol.

Editor: We've analyzed the footage, sir, and there is a danger of uncanny valley. Should I have it replaced with just a back shot?
ILM: Replace it? In our moment of digital triumph? I think you overestimate the uncanny.

Eh, to be honest that's what I was expecting to happen and I thought it was going to be lame to go that way.

Maybe I just have a higher visual tolerance for this CG stuff but I didn't really feel any problem for Tarkin or her.
