Responding "it looked so bad though!" In response to people not noticing the CG on their first viewing isn't all the sudden change the past and make them realize it was CG on their first viewing. If they didn't notice it then they didn't notice it lol

I think it would be really odd to only show the back of Leia's head.
What they should have done is have her speak, then show a shot of her face looking hopeful at the end. The CGI didn't look too bad when the characters weren't speaking.

The only problem I had with the movie was the Tantive IV launching from the cruiser, plans on board. Vader very clearly tells Leia in ANH that the plans were transmitted to the ship: "Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to those plans."
It's as glaring a misstep as Chewbacca ignoring Leia at the end of TFA.
Otherwise, loved everything. Great movie and by far the most beautiful Star Wars film. Felt like the best of the Clone Wars show & EU books. Great stuff.

I could live with this. I was actually surprised how good it looked (especially after Tarkin) until she talked.

For real ... What was Uncle George thinking when he wrote Episode I??
Let's assume for a second that Episode I isn't a steaming pile of shit and analyze how to fit in the established character of C-3PO into your prequel...
Do you:
A. Provide Princess Amidala, a world leader and royalty who deals in interplanetary trade agreements with alien races, a protocol druid to help her out in her day to day tasks as her planet's chief diplomat
Or
B. Have a poor slave kid with no money and a penchant for pod racing build a protocol droid for his poor slave mom who has 0 use for such an extravagance...
And this is why Uncle George needs to have his prequel trilogy erased and replaced by Disney with a competent telling of the fall of Anakin.

I didn't think the CG Tarkin looked too bad until he started to speak. The way his mouth was animated screamed CG. I definitely think some games (Uncharted 4 especially) had more convincing facial animation.

We have no reference to compare the other races to. We know how a human should look and move.
Yeah that's what I had figured too, and when it comes to Leia CG wasn't even my first thought since it really didn't seem like it to me. I figured they did some serious makeup magic or something.
Like, neither made a part of me go "that's clearly CG" like young Jeff Bridges/CLU in Tron Legacy did.
(I love Tron Legacy but man that was unsettling. Though probably fitting for CLU)
It was okay. It was hard to care about anything happening when I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Some good scenes, though. Just didn't feel much like Star Wars. The tone was off.
Giacchino's score was also a misfire. I'm largely going to blame the amount of time he had to write and record it (four weeks) because there was cue after cue that fell flat in the film. If anything, it made me appreciate Williams' contribution more in TFA.

Would be fine with this but I thought her hopeful expression was out of place and goofy. She didn't need to look so damn happy off the back of your basic bloodbath. She could deliver the same line, but look remorsefully determined or something.
More specifically, we know how those two specific people should look and move.

Yup, I have to imagine members of a gaming based forum that loses their shit about resolutions and graphics and frame rates and all that shit is going to notice a CG actor more than the average viewer

There's no real life reference for talking calamari, human brains are innately tuned to analyze human faces and can recognize when something is not right that is fundamentally what the uncanny valley is all about.
I found it off-putting, every time I saw Tarkin and Leia on screen I wasn't engaged in the film or listening to the actors lines, I was thinking about how I knew it was fake and the real world implications that the actor was dead or had aged.

The movie was fun. The characters and story were okay, but nothing special.
The most outstanding aspect of the movie was the overall presentation. It looked fantastic and never before the SW universe felt so big and immersive.
Oh by the way I think Tarkin looked good and great that we had him in the movie.

Wish he had more lines but yeah good for him. Now if only Ewan Mcgregor could be in a good Stars Wars film. His vocal cameo in Force Awakens doesn't count.Can we all just take a moment to be happy for Jimmy Smits? He's finally in a good Star Wars movie.

I'd prefer them to just age up Ewan. It was a bit different with Tarkin, what with only Cushing really playing him.

TFA is still far more visually interesting and accomplished versus anything else but Empire..

I could tell the moment the mouth opened. They tried their best, and I won't knock them for giving it such a good effort, but it was clearly CGI.
And there was something really off about Leia's eyes.
I mean... it's a ghost, so I wonder if they could get away with showing Guinness for an introduction, and then he slowly fades into Ewan? I mean if Anakin can fucking choose what he looks like...

I agree. I love details and each scene had so many beautiful details. Some amazing shots in this movie.
I could not disagree more. Visually interesting in what way? This is the best-looking SW movie ever, in my opinion. Just talking aesthetics and visual detail.

The thing i noticed the most about Tarkin was his severe case of lock jaw.
I'd say it's third or fourth on my list. I really enjoyed the overall tone though.
When me and my mom came back from watching RO we watched ANH and she was like "Wait, that's not the same actor!?" then I told her he had passed a while back and she was genuinely shocked.
She did also say Leia's eyes looked weird though.
It could've just been a lookalike pair, heh. But more likely they left at some point, it wasn't like the city got fried five minutes after Jyn and the others were taken. More likely a good amount of time passed.
