Rogue One: A Star Wars Story |OT| They rebel - SPOILERS

I'd like to think Vader had been planning this dad joke for several months or years and waited for the opportune time to choke someone to say it.

I didn't mind the line that much though but I didn't think it was great
Lol that's awesome. Gotta ponder something in that meditation chamber and Bacta tank.

I can see him now chuckling to himself. "Ho ho ho that's a good one! Might just choke someone to say it. servant! Summon Krennic!"

Okay first half and great second half.

Were there any Star Wars Rebels easter eggs or references?

A lot actually.

You can see The Ghost doing it's thing in the background during the end battle.

Chopper is seen at the background in a scene.

You hear a speaker call for General Syndulla at Yavin 4.

Hera's VA has a line as a random pilot.

If you loved the way Darth Vader was portrayed in the movie, which is probably everyone, then you guys should check out Vader Down and the episodes where he shows up in Rebels.
Can't understand how this has still got such a high score on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB user reviews.

No chance this is better than TFA.

I thought the general consensus was that the movie was bad?

How much Rebels do you need to watch to get up to and/or understand his role in the program?

Yes.

Vader Down is the bomb. Or bomba, depending on how you come out of it.

The first episode he shows up could just be watched without seeing anything else Rebels related and the second one is cool but it's a lot better if you've seen The Clone Wars.

Enjoyed it quite a bit. The jumping around at first is a bit disorienting (and a lot of the first act felt too dark to tell what was happening half the time), but it got better and better as it went along. Final battle scene pushed it above TFA for me. (It also made me want a new Rogue Squadron-style game badly. I feel like the makers of this movie were as big fans of the massive dogfights and capital ship brawls as Factor 5)

Vader's voice was a bit off and his lines were a tad too cheeky (though I agree that he always had a twisted and dry sense of humor in the OT, which reminds you that he's still a man, not a machine), but otherwise he lent a lot in his short appearances by reminding you just how disproportionately powerful Force users are in the series compared the "regular" guys. (Speaking of which, I bet Chirrut wished at the end that he was a real Jedi when he had to push a lever across a no man's land). Frankly, Jyn's odd inspirational speech in the Yavin IV control room felt more forced.

K-2SO was great. At first I was expecting a forced "wacky" droid or bad attempt at replicating HK-47, but I grew to really love the guy. His design helps; I love android designs that have slightly off proportions, like they're way too tall and have long ass limbs and they don't have real faces.

Also, Vader's lava castle is a reference to the original draft for Empire Strikes Back, right? I also liked that they brought back the Order of the Whills.

Vader in Rebels has some awesome lines.

"I don't fear you"
Vader:
"Then you will die braver than most"

Not sure why you think that as the general consensus here is the opposite. Don't know how anyone could think otherwise unless they don't know the meaning of the er...term there.

Just got back. Overall, it was way more enjoyable than The Force Awakens. It felt like it fit in much better with the original trilogy than any other movie. I liked the characters and the action was excellent.

Only problem I really have is some of the odder things like Chirrut's "The Force is with me and I am one with the Force" being repeated a bunch of times. Saw also staying back on the planet instead of going with Jyn was a little weird as well.

Chooper cameo, a mention of Hera over the loudspeaker and the Ghost turned up with the fleet.

I'm surprised to see so many people didn't realise Tarkin was CG.

Oh damn, I guessed I miss Chopper. Was it on Yavin IV I guess then? And the Ghost did turn up with the fleet? That's awesome. :D

Yeah, I missed him as well. The Ghost was actually in a TV spot.

Vader's line was good, perfectly in character, the voice was just a bit off.

I do love the transition from PT to OT. Senetor Organa reprising his role and Big Boss Vader manovouring with some of the dexterity he had as Anakin but much much more menacing due to his suit and new dark powers. Perfectly captured his final form as a powerful force user.

Amazing ending, just perfect.

The movie deepened the history of the series without detracting from the movies I fell in love with. Something you can't say for Lucas' movies. Well done, Gary Whita, Gareth Edwards, whoever shot n directed the reshoots and Disney.

I'd argue it enhanced PT too. Nicely connects with RoTS

This is set a few minutes/hours before IV, Vader is pretty much like in the OT.

Whitta didn't write the script, he got demoted to a story by credit. It was heavily re-written after his first draft. His draft didn't even have Baze or Chirrut.

The fact that the Krennic Vader convo was seemingly moved during reshoots from the Death Star to Vader's Castle makes me think Kylo is gonna be raiding that Castle in Episode VIII

I really liked it. Surprised they went where they did with the ending, and my entire theatre erupted when Leia showed up at the end.

I did find the CGI Tarkin a bit distracting though.

Much better than TFA and this one deserves the praise it is getting.

My wife was really confused about Bail's lines regarding Obi/Leia as well and I had to explain it to her. The way it was said can definitely be confusing but if you know the relationships they are talking about and listening carefully it isn't too bad.

Likely going to be my 3rd or 4th favorite Star Wars movie. I'll have to wait a bit and see it again before I decide.

Near the end when the volunteers leave with the Rogue 1 crew some random dude hears over comms that rebels are attacking scarif base he runs to Mon Mothma to tell her, literally like 5 seconds before he gets to her you see Chopper moving to the left of him about to exit the screen

Kylo is a struggling actor. He is going to need roommates to pay that sort of rent!

Starting to think that exchange between Bail and Mon Mothma is a great barometer for how shit your theater's sound system is.

Good sound system: You understand who and what they're talking about.

System in need of repair: You think Bail just started talking about Ahsoka Tano's dead ass for no reason.

Kinda like his in the OT if you saw boxes around the TIE fighters you knew you had your brightness too high.

Nah, that was just a coincidence. I am sure we will get the reason for why he resides on the place of his battle with Obi-Wan and his subsequent burning at one point, probably The Emperor's way to remind him of Obi-Wan and Pad,e's "betrayal" to keep him firmly in the dark side.

Lelia isn't a jedi though.

Right conversation is basically:

Mon Mothma: Maybe time to get your Jedi friend
Bail: He served me well in the clone wars (Obi-Wan), I'll send someone to retrieve him
Mon Mothma: You need someone you can really trust to do that
Bail: I trust her (Leia) with my life

I don't watch any Star Wars films without boxes. The key is to follow them until they disappear, THEN you clap.

Had some time to think on it and I still love the movie despite two problems.

1. Jyn is not at all interesting and I think Felicity Jones tried but the character is super uninteresting. This is made worse by literally everyone else being more interesting.

2. CGI Peter Cushing is super distracting.

I thought it wasn't on Mustafar. Different lava planet.

You guys REALLY don't like Gary round these parts do you

It's true he didn't have those two characters in there, though I wouldn't call someone being relegated to a story credit as a demotion. He went in, turned in his draft and did his job. They did some rewrites, and it's likely that his draft was probably a foundation for the film and it's multiple rewrites.

Either way, it's still really awesome, and the dude doesn't need forum posters to give him credit or deny him it, he's already got his named plastered on a Star Wars flick. He's the winner.

I wouldn't be surprised if this story was made first for a videogame and later disney arrived, canceled the videogames but ept the story to use in a movie...

there was a lot of fluff in the movie that could have been avoided and would have made some fine videogame session..the characters were paper thin and just tried to cover the arcchetypes..just like in videogames...

i admit though that it was cool for once to assist to what basically was a suicide mission

I don't know about yall, but every time I actually SEE Bail Organa, I think of three things:

1) "General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars."
2) Leia relays his message to Obi Wan.
3) BANG

So I had just about zero problem understanding what, and who, he was talking about in that scene.

This is set a few minutes/hours before IV, Vader is pretty much like in the OT.

I agree that he's closer to OT, but there's hint of energy from PT too, he doesn't move as swiftly nor is as agile in OT as we see R1. Lots of force powers being used and a saber spin. That's pure PT.

Hey, did you ever get to rewatching A New Hope after Rogue One? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Also, I REFUSE to believe Ahsoka is dead. #believe

Refuuuuuuuuuuse

I want Lord and Miller to do a movie with K-2 and HK-47 meeting up with random groups of humans over a few centuries and talking shit about everyone.

Nah, Johh Knoll originally hoped it would be told in the planned live action TV show a decade or so ago which is also where the idea for the Boba Fett spin off originated IIRC.

Not sure about that either, I was at the StarWars exhibition this morning in London, original props and art from the movie was on display, part of Darth Sidous sketches had him in a throne room with Lava, this was from 1980 sketch, I think Lucus wanted heat, fire to be associated with the Sith. Remind people they lived in the depths of hell.
