The main issues with this movie was the pacing in the 1st half and character development, otherwise it was mostly fine.

Character developments and depth were fine. We should've just gotten more time with them. Oh gosh, I hope there's an extended Blu-Ray edition.

We're all talking about Rogue One, but now that it's here I'm already looking at a year from now worrying how much MTP (minutes to Poe) we are looking at for VIII.

I'm just worried about how they have Finn get put in the friend zone again

Because you were my favorite poster
Well, until that comment you blasphemous heathen

HUG MEEE

And Thor 2 is the best comic book movie right.

No don't be absurd, The Spirit is

We didn't really even need more development and depth. Just spending more time seeing them interact would've made it better. I feel like there was so little time in the middle for things to settle. Having the plot move al9ng quickly worked for the atmosphere of impending war at least though.

I think you might want to go watch Star Wars again. While Vader does have some very dry humor lines, he doesn't come anywhere near as close as the sledgehammer to the audience's face pun as in this movie.
Seriously, I could see him fucking winking under the helmet.
Yup. It's great.

He doesn't make any puns in the OT but I don't believe it was out of character. Vader always roasts the idiots he chokes.

Went in knowing next to nothing about the film, and I didn't like it. I think it's for fans only.

Characters not likeable (especially the supporting characters), I can't remember the name of the male protagonist, the intro I felt too fast (there were things I didn't understand), the CG character was very noticeable. Darth Vader was good.

EDIT: VII was good, let's hope VIII is at the same leve.

Reading comprehension?

People are comprehending you correctly.

They're suggesting you don't actually know what you're talking about.

Because you don't.

You have no idea if those scenes actually worked or not, or served the story, or if the story as it stood at that time was even as good as this one. Because you haven't seen them, or it.

Reading comprehension? The trailers showed previews to a movie that I wanted to see. That's not the movie I ended up seeing.
You are the one who is saying that the other movie had a completly different tone.
So I guess you have seen the full other version, cause a tone doesnt changes when a couple of scenes are different

As someone who had no idea Tarkins actor had died, I didn't realize he was CG during the film. I think if you had knowledge of that then of course it won't look real to you. Your brain has already made that decision. Now with Princess Leia I felt like it was uncanny valley but tbh it's because I know what Fisher looks like now so my knowledge of that skews my perspective. What they did with Tarkin was a feat of cinema.
I thought he looked weird but I had no idea he was CGI until I started reading this thread.

I don't know why you'd assume the version of the movie that existed when the trailers were cut is better than the finished movie. Shit was changed and fixed to make the movie better, not worse.

I don't really get the desire for more depth.

Jyn Erso's motivations were pretty clear, she's a rounded character. Cassian started an asshole but ultimately wanted redemption for the terrible shit he did -round. Krennic is over ambitious but also insecure to the point he likes getting force choked by Darth because it means he's important -round. K2SO was a robot doing his programming -flat, but of course. The only leads without explicit motivations or rounded characters were the two asians. Honestly they were pretty stereotypical sidekicks, though you could imagine they cared for Jedha and want Krennic's comeuppance. Then again how rounded were C3P0 and R2 after five movies.

Reshoots as an automatic negative is a narrative that serves the incorrect assumption that everyone's first draft is the purest example of a story's full potential and any meddling past that first run is simply an exercise in diminshing returns.

Which is horseshit, but hey.

I didn't know. Thought there was something strange with the character, clothes looked ok, but face didn't. After a few scenes were I payed attention I realised he was CG.

Maybe I've played too many videogames to notice the hair / eyes in these things always.

They need to stop making these hyperspace travels go by instantly. Perfect opportunity to add some communication between characters in that time.

What? Either you aren't comprehending it correctly, or you aren't making any sense at all.
I don't know what I'm talking about when mentioning the trailers that I saw that had the footage that was cut from the final movie was the same footage that got me interested in the film to begin with? The scenes were either much darker, or they seemed more like Star Wars in general. I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

It doesn't matter if the scenes "didn't fit" according to Disney. That's not what I was talking about at all, and you don't know if they fit either.

Not the film I saw.

You nailed it. It's nice that most canon Star Wars movies are good now.

There was a scene with a big dialouge while beeing in Hyperspace
Can't remember which one. But I meant it more as a general thing in Star Wars movies. Watched A New Hope last week again and felt like half the movie took place in hyperspace and on the Millennium Falcon.

The Star Wars universe feels a bit small with all the instant jumping. Of course it should serve to better the story also if they add scenes like that though.

The part where they recycled the ANH rebel pilots was fucking awesome. It stuck out a bit, but I appreciated it immensely. Where were Biggs and Porkins though

The Y-Wings did stuff this time. MY GOD

Not the film I saw.

The movie I saw was pretty damn dark considering pretty much every character died at the end of it, like it was a season finale for Blackadder. Also felt like Star Wars to me, with the messages of hope, the focus on family, the adventure, the thrills, the visuals and the music. And it felt different as well, which is what made it great.

Most importantly, Disney didn't do anything. Disney doesn't make Star Wars movies. Lucasfilm does. I can't believe nobody mentioned this in here before.

(most importantly, nobody in here has seen an 'earlier/real' version of Rogue One, as if that ever existed. Shit changes all the time when making a movie, they're not transcribing actual historical events. The script changes, changes occur during filming, etc. Reshoots are a normal and scheduled part of every movie, including this one.

While there are shots in the trailer that aren't in the movie, the tone is obviously the same, and that was what they were selling. Seems like getting angry for the sake of getting angry to me honestly. It's not like we ended up with a Disneyland version of the movie - it has an honest vision, a coherent tone throughout it and it's not afraid to shy away from the shocking/bad stuff, like the character deaths or Vader's rage. I don't know how you could have made this darker, unless you wanted bloody limbs flying all over the place, but I have no idea how you could expect that from the trailer or from a movie with Star Wars in the title (or how that would have improved the quality).

I don't see how.
Not the first time he's made a joke or sarcastic comment. This is no different.
Wasn't even meant to be "haha" funny, just a bit of dark humor.
Doesnt matter, give it a few decades and a couple of hundred rewatches, then people will see it in line of Apology accepted and Lack of faith
