I don't see how.
Not the first time he's made a joke or sarcastic comment. This is no different.

It's the joke in question.

It's on the level of Mr Freeze saying ICE TO MEET YOU as he freezes ppl.

Vader had dry humor but it mostly reflected on how grim he was as opposed to him trying to be actively corny.

Mine:

The Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith

I can't believe we're still going on about that line.

Like, if I had to put together at Top 20 list of bad Vader lines, I don't think that one makes it.

"Alert my Star Destroyer, to prepare for my arrival" stays #1 with a bullet.

Narrowly beating out "Noo." and "Noooooooooo" to round out the top 3.

He's choking him as he tells him not to choke on his aspirations because he's irritated with him.
That's pretty grim despite it also being corny. Doesn't have to be one or the other and after rewatching ANH earlier I can totally see him saying such a thing.

Obviously Noooooooo.

Edit: Dammit I quoted you right as you added the Nooooo to your post.

Okay Edwards, I forgive you for Godzilla.

I had a great time with this. I can't say it resonated with me as much as TFA did, but there's still so much to enjoy here. The visuals, set-pieces, and performances were all top-notch, and I found the humor to work almost every time. Donnie Yen's first scene of action was both perfect and unique.

Vader going full Jason Voorhees was something I've wanted to see since I kid, and even though the scene was brief, it fucking delivered

Ranking for me would be

ESB>TFA>Rogue>SW>ROTJ>ROTS

Which is horseshit, but hay.

fixed

Nooo is clearly the worst Vader moment ever IMO.

Yep. And his confrontation with Jyn was... not satisfying.

Agreed. That said, the true villain was inevitability, so I gave it a pass.

It didn't bother me since the main goal of the movie was "complete the mission" but looking back...yeah I wish he could've done something cool. Make him be the dude that shoots K2 to death, I dunno.

Still a great movie though. There's a couple of good things about this movie that I can't even put into words.

Empire
New Hope
Jedi
Force Awakens
Rogue One
Sith
Menace
Getting kicked in the groin
Clones

And I really like Rogue One. I will probably watch that last 30-40 minutes a lot and it might be some of my favorite Star Wars ever. But, it's a lot of movie I'm ambivalent about yet that you have to get through.

The Vader pun is probably the single best thing about this movie's characterization of the guy. (Well, that or the inclusion of his Mustafar castle.)

For the fans, force-choking is teh awesome. For the great Vader, it was Tuesday.

I hope that this movie helps people understanding that the heros of the OT have actually plotarmor and that Stormtrooper are not idiots.

Our lists are pretty much the same, also, lol at getting kicked in the groin over Clones.

Yeah pretty much this.

It might have already been discussed but I was a lot more surprised by saw effectively committing suicide and (less so) not fully apologizing to jin. I mean for the sake of the plot I understand it but if he had this sudden belief in the rebellion dream why would he just give up like that?

Maybe I missed something

That's kind of how I feel and it feels like a huge missed opportunity. It basically has the ingredients of everything I was looking for, but instead of making something great they just tossed it in the microwave and called it a day.

No I get the joke. It was also oversold with the hand gesture and him turning around personally.

Since Vader is corny now, he should've made a joke at the end. Imagine some rebel dude said the room is dark. Then you hear Vader's breathing and then: "I'll turn a light on." And his saber activities.

Yes, that's how stupid the choke line was. My eyes rolled of of my head.

Vader 'Don't Choke' is basically the same as 'Apology accepted'.

I mean, this is a dude who murders people he finds annoying and wears a skull helmet and a shiny cod-piece.

For those that don't like the Vader dad joke, how do they feel about the "apology accepted" line? Their both very similar. That's part of him, he tells fucked up dad jokes from time to time.

Dat sweet hyperbole

Its classic and seen for 100x and its part of the OT, so it gets a pass.

What was Vader's pun?

He force choked Krennic and said "Don't choke on your aspirations."

I thought it worked because force choking him is like an ultimate power display, and the cheesy pun was pretty much Vader putting him right in his proper spot like "This shit is such a small deal to me that I can make a bad joke about it, mother fucker."

Also, that shot of the door opening up and the GIANT shadow on the wall behind Krennic was Spielberg as hell. Really good.

So I guess every new Star Wars movie that gets released will always end up with posters ranking the movies with lists no one cares about and shitting on the prequels.

Never change, GAF.

And then he proceeds to murder them all? Yeah I'd find that hilarious and totally Vader.

People need to keep in mind that this is what's under that helmet.

Sorry. But it is what it is.

Wasn't even meant to be "haha" funny, just a bit of dark humor.

It's the first time Vader has made a pun in the films, IIRC, which seemed to cross a line for some. I thought it was right in line with his other dark jokes ("Apology accepted", "I find your lack of faith disturbing") so it didn't bother me. But I get why it might for others.

I see we're on to rankings. I will caveat that I've sen it once, and will see it a few more times in theaters, so subject to change and all that. Now a couple days after seeing it, I thought it was....good. Best space battle in the series, best ground battle in the series. But the climax is also excessively drawn out in ways that really bother me (too much hinging on pressing buttons, tossing levers, connecting cables, dangling on ladders, etc.), and several plot elements are left hanging (the necklace, the pilot's sense of identity/memory). It's a pretty layered and ambitious story but it doesn't land everything.

But it's pretty clearly in the top echelon of Star Wars films now.

The Empire Strikes Back
The Force Awakens (rough tie with Empire)
A New Hope

really small gap

Rogue One

big gap

Jedi

epic gaping chasm
static on old CRT tv
sitting alone on the couch feeling lonely

Prequels
