Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I was completely overleveled, but was it actually possible to lose against Ardyn? It felt a lot like a Final Fantasy X final boss type situation, where the second to last boss is harder than the final boss.

And what's the deal with Prompto? Ardyn was TORTURING HIM? Prompto was infected to become a monster?????

I can't even bring myself to load up the game anymore. Too sad about what went down. RIP to Noctis and Luna. Destiny was too cruel to them. It's REALLY not fair either. The guys were all he had. Luna was all he had. Noctis' journey consists of making a few happy memories amiss a storm of unfair treatment by forces he can't control.

I guess there won't be a sequel.

Now I'm worried that Sora from Kingdom Hearts will share the same fate.

Yeah it sucks for both of them. Noctis didn't even get to meet Luna's adult self, except in a vision, lol. And that 'wedding' scene was just a nice dream for the player, I doubt that after death they're anything more than floating spirits that can't interact with one another.

I was level 60 and had to run away from most of the monsters on the way to the castle; it was too hard. The Behemoth(?) at the gates was okay. The final bosses were easy. There's something wrong with the level balancing in the game, I think.

To be honest, I died a total of one time in the whole game and I finished at 35hs mark at level 43. And no, I'm not good, I barely knew what I was doing most of the time, just imagined what would feel cool to do in the game but barely could see enemies attack me.

If you have a good stock of potions and around 10 phoenix downs you're almost inmortal.

Yes. I didn't notice Noctis died and forgot to use a potion. It was game over for me.

uhhhh

i mean....

FF6 Kefka does destroy the world and become god
FF8 Ultimecia actually does time compress everything
FF9 Kuja actually does kill all of existence for a brief moment
FFX Jeckt finally got to see his son and die in peace (Yu Yevon isn't really the main baddy imo)
FF13 Bart and Orphan do Collapse Cocoon

however if you mean "wins and their victory is never cleaned up miraculously" then you are completely right iirc

I don't know man, I mean Terra and co. still had to land the airship in the world of ruin... I mean the face of the planet is still changed. Kefka fucked up everyone real bad and its quite permanent.

Also, Bart and Orphan did collapse Cocoon and did see death. .....soooo suicide by the goddess successful?

EDIT: And now that i think about it some more... X-Death reuinited the split world so he won.... in a way. AND in the second moon just went away in Final Fantasy IV.... think of the tidal chaos that would cause....

Other bad guys won, but they always had their victory revoked in a way, or ended up paying for it later. Ardyn flat out succeeded in everything. Even dying was sort of good for him

The good guys do reverse what he did in the end, but still

huh... yeah and in ff2 wan't the emperor all about acquiring new land, to which he literally acquires hell?

And (as stated earlier in the thread) if we count ff13-2...

wow... FF baddies win (even if momentarily) way more often than they lose

And that's part of why I enjoy FFXV so much, in spite of its weaknesses. It's about Noctis overcoming his immaturity and taking on his duty as King. It's about him overcoming such hardships and still being willing and able to give the ultimate sacrifice. It's about him finally realizing and treasuring the things he had (the campfire scene, the execution scene). And ultimately, for all his suffering and sacrifice, he ends the reign of darkness and finally reunites with Luna and gets his happiness.

It's a really good tale that's kind of heartwarming and inspiring, underneath the tragic surface of it all.

The last 3 hours of the game felt so damn rushed. Also I didn't think the payoff of the first credit scene was strong enough. They really could have had some better dialogue to drive home how important Ignis, Prompto and Gladio all are to Noctis but they went with "you're the best".

I was kind of disappointed when he didn't drop the L bomb. Come on, dude.

Luna dead. I honestly believed she would turn out alive. My heart broke when it turned out that she really IS dead.

Which reminds me: in Chapter 10, some rando NPCs say things along the lines of "She just disappeared under the waves. I hope they find her!" "I hope she turns out okay." etc.

I totally thought she was going to end up alive.

The main problem is that he grows up during the 10 year time skip so it feels completely unearned.

"And then Evil Cloud killed Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, Vincent, Barret, blew up midgar, summoned meteor, destroyed the world and then banged Cloud's mom, The End"

best villain ever 10/10

How destructive the villain is really has nothing to do with anything....Majin Buu killed like everyone in DBZ and then successfully blew up the Earth, but I don't see anyone calling Buu better than Frieza, who didn't win shit. Probably caught the most massive L in the series on his return.

My only game over in the entire game was in the second phase of the Ardyn fight (the Super Saiyan battle across Insomnia) . I don't even know what the hell happened, Noctis still had some HP left but he and Ardyn just kinda froze in a position and after a while the Game Over screen showed up. Felt really weird and glitchy. lol
I'm actually one of the few here that did enjoy that fight but that took me off of it for a bit. Thankfully the second attempt went smooth. But yeah, it's technically possible to lose against him, it's just really unlikely like all other fights in the game as long as you have items and barring exceptional circumstances like mine.

I.... I look back at the marketing for this game and I honestly thought we were gonna get a happy ending.

Just wow. Noctis is dead. He didn't even get to live a real fulfilling life. The guys were LITERALLY all he had.

The ending hit me hard too, first one in a long while to make me really think about it days after the fact. I can see why some people felt it was unearned due to the lack of setup, exposition, pacing and so on, but it still struck a chord with me in a way very few videogame endings do, specially that camping scene (which is what really sold the ending for me, much more so than the post-credits sequence). I suppose how much you enjoy it depends on how willing you are to forgive the game for its storytelling issues and just allow yourself to be taken in for the ride and enjoy the experience as it is, which is true for the entirety of FF XV as a product tbh.

The real problem with XV's difficulty in story is the fact rescue system is OP as hell sometimes and you have items on top of it. Now... maybe if there was a hard mode i'd believe in a challenge.

Thanks to everyone whose been responding to me about the ending. I appreciate this discussion greatly.

I really feel sad... I know I keep saying this but I honestly thought Luna would turn out alive and I was hoping that Noctis could escape death. It's... just so sad. The player is supposed to be making these super special memories with him before you realize that he's doomed.

I'm looking at Prompto's photos and I'm even more sad.

Noctis.... Luna... so unfair what happened to them. Luna got stabbed by a complete clown and Noctis had to give up his life to save his world.

I'm getting Persona 3 FES ending flashbacks of how I was incredibly sad what happened at the end of that game too.

Just realized that ,outside of the Durandal (which is pretty much useless against normal enemies) I've been using the stuff you could buy from the first vender in hammer head for weapons and the masamune.

yet still I've basically breezed through a level 1 run (though, mind fights have been more fun overall)

I just picked up a thunderbolt at Mamalam Thicket so... yeah, a 257 difference in attack strength from his previous weapon should help. lol

I'm getting Persona 3 FES ending flashbacks of how I was incredibly sad what happened at the end of that game too.

Like the journey ending or the answer ending?
Either way I agree with you.

Journey ,_,

Seeing Gentiana turn into Shiva was amazing. Her Summon stuff is just amazing.

Ifrit? Lol what are you doing? Calm down. Join the good guys.

The Niflheim stuff is something the trailers hyped up but turned out not that much. Idelolas got robbed.

Totally predicted Aranea would become friends with the guys.

Forcing you to walk slow when Ignis has bad sight makes sense... but its annoying.

The game doesn't force you, Gladious just gives you shit for it. I personally stopped giving a rat's ass after a few minutes and just torpedoed ahead of the party like an asshole and everything progressed normally :P

Lol. there is no repercussion? i walked all the way forward so that Ignis could catch up. :( you're telling me i did it for nothing?

You did it for nothing yeah.

I tried to wait for him but I got so sick of gladio bitching at me anyway that I said fuck it. He moaned less when I ran far ahead than he did when I stayed close lol.

No, you did it for Ignis!

At least in this chapter i got one of my fav photos of my trip.

C0dHQE2UUAAhCUj.jpg

I did feel terribly bad for the guy. More than Luna Freya dying lol. I was, NOCT! who cares about her, we barely knew her. IGNIS!!! HIS EYES! YOU SHOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HIS EYES!

well that makes me look like a fool. Here i thought i was being considerate.

The one that hit me most was when they camped and the only menu available is a shitty canned food and Cup Noodles®. This guy used to cook Lasagna in a campsite :<

All I wish for is being able to use Bahamut and Ifrit as summons :( Esp. Bahamut because his summon against Ifrit was the most awesome thing I've witnessed this year.

Pitioss has some really well-designed rooms, I can't believe they've tucked it away in a post-game area where few are likely to see it.

And then you have the 8 separate menace dungeons that are all the same fucking thing (a series of combat rooms).

such a mess

I have seen several people on GAF saying the original plans for Stella was that Noctis killed her before the events of the game, is that true and/or do you have a source ? Thanks !

The moment I entered Insomnia in Chapter 14, I was feeling like: "Maybe Stella was meant to be what Ardyn is today".

To elaborate: In the Trailer (Versus XIII), we see Insomnia destroyed. And well, the end of XV has us going to a destroyed Insomnia. But maybe it's just my wild imagination.

The final two cutscenes... with the guys around the campfire and luna/noctis at the throne... can someone make sense of this to me?

The first is a flashback to them camping the last time before going to Insomnia.
The other is just a nice little "afterlife" scene of their marriage they never got to have.

Guys around the campfire for the last time = the gamer realizing the guys were all Noctis had and Noctis truly came to peace with his destiny which is die for the world may live in peace.

Luna is dead. Noctis is dead. That was just a cute and very sad scene of how they would look if they were to get married. FFXV's logo is Luna "sleeping" on Noctis' arm.

The game is depressing as heck.

I asked myself many times during the part of the game if the developers did this on purpose.
I'm very positive that it's not meant to wait for Ignis (because it really takes too long), but it takes you in a dilemma situation and makes you sad. Something like: "man, so many bad stuff happened, and it hit very hard to Ignis. He is my friend and I should support him in this terrible situation. But we're too slow and he really hinders us to continue our journey. It can't go on like this forever. What sould I just do?"

If it was intended to feel like this, kudos

The moment you realize that this is the only FF game where the bad guy wins*

I think caius won too. Not sure tho because that plot is spaghetti types of confusing

Sealed dungeon found via glitch to get to Angelgard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekfxW3eLtMA&feature=youtu.be&t=42m15s

I think this might be the Gladio dlc? Look at all those swords in the ground. The guy tried to get to Insomnia but you can't.

Isn't this just the stone prison where Noctis wakes after 10 years? Kinda mad the guy didn't try and look if there was an entrance.

Yes, but if you watched the video it had the same emblem as a sealed dungeon in post game which means it is some sort of possible dlc. Idk, I just thought it was interesting.

Ooh.... Now I get it. Just finished the game a couple minutes ago. I was like, " what the hell did I just watched?". Man, this game is very gloomy.....

Ugh they are so terrible compared to what they got. The trilogy idea would have spread everything out and led to some incredibly morose / unnecessary solutions, including Prompto's death, 4 villains (!), and lots of betrayals.

The only thing I want to see is Vestrael and it is reasonable to believe a lot of him will be in Prompto's DLC. In fact, I really think the supporting NPCs were only 'shafted' in game because the bros' DLCs will feature them more prominently (Cor and Gladio, Vestrael and Prompto, and perhaps Ravus / the other Generals / Wesky and Ignis). I hope to be right ><

Hmmm...I interpreted it as it's not how they would look if they were married, it is them actually being together in the afterlife (as evident by all the crystals floating around). Since we know death is not the 'end' in Eos, it's hopeful to see the two finally get to rest and be at peace with each other.

It would have been less depressing if we'd have seen other people at Noctis and Luna's wedding IMO (kinda FFIV and FFIX style except in the afterlife). Hell, a redeemed Ardyn could even have been there, kinda like how Garland is redeemed at the end of FF1.

Can you imagine a shaved Ardyn? :o

I love despair, death, betrayals and sad stuff.. so I'm the wrong person to ask lol which is why it makes me sad we never got versus. But hey it is what it is.
