I would have been so sad if they kissed.
They snogged each other's brains out in that elevator. We all know it, people.

The line could have worked if we had more development with his character. I agree that it seemed weird in the film. I was like.. Wait, why aren't you going to run..?I though the 30 other planets was cool though! Especially the way the music changed during each transition. It made the galaxy feel like... an actual galaxy, which Star Wars has never been great at doing. The more times I see the movie the more I appreciate it.
If I could change one thing, it would be to change Saw's final dialogue from "I will run no longer" to "I'll never make it." Just that minor change would have helped his character make more sense.

Because the man only seemed capable of hobbling at 2 miles an hour and didn't even seem capable of breathing for too long without assistance. He would have slowed them down and he knew it.
At least, that's what I'll tell myself on subsequent re-watches.
Yes, it's been confirmed to be the case. Don't know why they didn't bother giving it a titlecard like the rest of the planets, but hey.

Also, Palpatine is a dick.
Honestly I think it's already there for the most part. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of viewers had absolutely no idea this was a CGI character. Even if you can tell, most people aren't looking hard or paying close enough attention to see it.
Tarkin was obvious CGI. Very wooden movement gave him an uncanny valley vibe.
Yeah, at Christmas Eve dinner my uncle was asking me about Leia and how they got old footage of her for the movie, it didn't even occur to him that it might be CGI. Tarkin slipped under his radar completely.
If a person was a non-NeoGAF reader / unaware of Tarkin's actor being dead / didn't remember the original trilogy or had never seen it, the CG was believable.
I have to disagree with the bolder. Each main character is likeable, goes through their own character arc, and it was legitimately tragic when they passed.
RO nailed the sense that they literally have ever last bit of themselves to get those plans off world, and I feel it contributed very positively to ANH.
Yeah, I was really distracted by both he and CG Leia. I would have actually preferred that they just use new actors for those roles but with Carrie Fisher's recent passing it may best that it was handled that way even though the filmmakers had no idea. Any other actress playing Leia would be heressy now. At least there shouldn't be any more prequels for a while to worry about that though.
Also, Palpatine is a dick. "Lord Vader, we shall be giving you a personal base with your own restoration chamber... on the planet where you were horribly burnt and last saw your wife"

Uncanny Valley occurred when you KNEW you were looking at a fake.
My girlfriend and another girl in our group had never seen the original Star Wars and had no idea who Tarkin was. They noticed immediately.
While it definitely did feel choppy, I did like the scale presented by all the different vistas.I forget who it was in that initial week that suggested "you know, there's not much reason why the entire first half hour couldn't have happened on Jedha instead of like,30 other planets" but I dont' think they were wrong at all.
Right and I agree that it didn't look quite as good as it should have but I really think your opinion is in the minority.Tarkin was obvious CGI. Very wooden movement gave him an uncanny valley vibe.
Not saying it isn't spottable but the outcry about the cgi being bad seems to be a small minority. This isn't true tho.
The idea that regular viewers weren't able (or are unable) to spot it isn't accurate. Whether it really bothers them varies, of course. But there are a lot of people who have never heard of this place, never heard of Peter Cushing, and weren't big Star Wars fans, who spotted the CGI.
I don't know if I'm just imagining this and it was overall effect that didn't work, but Tarkin felt too animated or "twitchy" in a way? Like they gave too nuance nuance to his head/facial movement that it looked cartoonish. His movements in ANH are few and more deliberate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtY3bsHVSTw
When they first showed him, my friend and I thought they got a lookalike--then he had more scenes and dialogue and movement and it became obvious.
There are a few shots where he's still, and not around other actors, where he looks believable.
I actually missed that somehow. What scene did it happen in?OT, but the run-in with the guys from the bar in ANH was a very random appearance.

Jyn and Cassian bump into them running through the streets of Jedha in their search to find Saw, if I remember correctly.
Too contrived a cameo for my blood, and I love my fan-service.
I'll pay more attention during that scene next time I watch. That is pretty contrived, a lot like some of the prequel cameos.I believe it is early on in Jedah when Jyn and Cassian are running through the streets.
He's limping with a cane, and needs a respirator for breathing assistance. He heavily implies that he's dying/terminally ill, and so doesn't even give a fuck. I had no problem with his character behaving the way he did.Why did Forest Whitaker let himself die? He could have escaped.

My favorite cameo was either the Ghost or the pilots from A New Hope.
People are complaining about cameos? lol, that's just silly nitpicking, who cares?
Gold Squadron's cameo was the best cameo
Pretty contrived, by not comparable to prequel cameos to be honest. I can sooner believe those two were running around the streets of Jedha than Yoda and Chewbacca were military allies on the wookiee home world.
Especially since we finally get to see his Y-Wings do something awesome. Whoever directed that final battle seriously loves Y-Wings.Gold Squadron's cameo was the best cameo
When you're a huge X-Wing fan, you notice these things.Completely missed the pilot cameos. I'm kind of in awe of fans who could recognize such minor characters turning up. Regardless, the use of archive footage must have been absolutely seamless because it never even registered with me.

Also, Darth Vader having built C-3PO.
Jesus Christ, Lucas.
It stuck out like a sore thumb to me, but I know those movies like the back of my hand. I kind of wish they pulled a Tarkin and CG'd them, or at least dubbed the voices.Completely missed the pilot cameos. I'm kind of in awe of fans who could recognize such minor characters turning up. I've probably watched A New Hope 20, 25 times but I really liked the archival footage of the pilots. It really only works though considering this was, like, a week before that battle. The movies are so close I like them seaming stuff together like that.

I understand the logic in the pilots being the same, it just felt a little, I don't know, lazy? Considering the effort they went to with all the other cameos.
TIE Strikers. They're specialized for in-atmosphere operations, though they can apparently fly in space.I saw one review (filmstage) asking for new planets and new ships. I just couldn't understand it. We got a bunch of new planets. Sure it ended up being Yavin a lot at the end but Scariff is brand new. Maybe it wasn't alien enough for the reviewer? But the ship complaint? The first death start is blown up within like 4 days of the end of this movie. Yes, we're going to get X wings and Y wings, and the tie fighters like we've seen. We even got what looked like pure air tie fighters?

The best new ship for me was the U-Wing. Just a really cool-looking ship.
