Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

2017 is gonna have a lot of interesting PnCs releasing. Will do a quick write up of them for the January thread.

was there any heads up from codies? wish i grabbed f1. makes me wonder why marketing departments more often than not keep it secret rather than sell as much as possible

Not really, only GOG announced removal of GRID. (They don't carry other games)

F1 2013 didn't even have a sale. DIRT 3 / GRID had very deep sale and was given free, which made heavily suggested it.

2 hrs left if you want some stuff :)

Okay, so I think I'm going to be getting Pony Island, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Endless Legend.

Are any of the expansions for Endless Legend considered required like the Civ V expansions, or are they more like DLC that's nice to have?

I bought CK2 during another sale, and was very sad that the UI is near unreadable for me at 2560x1440. Man I wish they'd add scaling. :( It's a game I've always wanted to take some time to get into, but that's a deal beaker.

Have you checked the Workshop? There seems to be a couple mods touching the fonts for high resolutions.

In all Paradox games there's also always a mod for a bigger UI to maximize screen usage, pretty useful.

Now to decide what to get with the cards money D=

I was thinking Hand of Fate, but I ended up getting more money than expected and now I'm in doubt.

Tooling around through SteamSpy and man, it's crazy how well Age of Empires 2 HD has done. I wonder how much money Microsoft has made from that game versus their Play Anywhere W10 store stuff this year.

Small haul so far:

No Man's Sky (GMG)
Pac Man CE 2
Transformers: Devastation + DLC (stored as a gift)

Not planning on playing Transformers now, but the talk about it being delisted, and it being out ot stock on GMG made me a bit worried about missing it.

Still pondering to buy:
Cities: Skylines (have access to it already with family share)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
House of the Dying Sun

Deus Ex MD is basically a more pretty, better playing and more refined version Human Revolution. So if you liked HR, you're gonna like MD... gameplay/mechanically speaking, that is.

But the story in MD is extremely underwhelming. They managed to cut the story in half and still making it feel repetitive in the middle. First 10/20% was great, last 10/20% was great, everything in the middle was mehhhh.

Regardless, well worth the money at 67% off. I got it at launch, spent €37 on it, and while the story was very underwhelming, I had a blast with the gameplay and level design. No regrets.

I'd love a Fire Emblem clone. Just one a little less garish.

With all of these FFs making their way to Steam, hopefully Ogre Battle gets some love. I'll take them all.

On my way home from seeing in the new year with some great friends - I know I'm a resident non-entity here, but I greatly appreciate this community, and wish you all a very peaceful and fulfilling 2017.

Spoilers: the year is off to a calm and uneventful start; so far it's exceeding 2016 in many regards.

GRID, Dirt 3 and F1 2013 were all awesome. The latter two were replaced by Dirt Rally and F1 2016 I guess, but for a long time there they were Codies best racing games, so it's a shame they're gone now.

Dirt Rally is totally different to 3 though. One is a punishing sim that is hugely rewarding and the other is just fun and accessible. Shame to see 3 go.

I'm looking to pick up Last Remnant during this sale but I'm wondering when I should pop. Is it gonna get any cheaper than it is right now? Do Steam sales even fluctuate like that anymore?

The discount levels are set by publishers, so sometimes.

Also, hasn't the Last Remnant been bundled before?

I don't know, i don't know if I should get pillars of eternity..should i?

I just don't know.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but as someone who was pretty excited about the game I ended up dropping it pretty early on. It all just felt a bit dry to me. The characters weren't speaking out. I only put 13 hours into it, so maybe I just needed more time.

Anyone played Xanadu Next and can tell me what to do in the forest
with the marks on the floor at each room exit? Which one should I follow.

The marks didn't look like anything to me.
I just explored the whole place and just used my memory to remember where each exit took me.

As someone who enjoyed Pillars but also find it disappointing, if you weren't enjoying it early on you probably won't want to continue. The game is best early on as the story falls off the further you go and the final act is the weakest part of the game.

Just made it to Act 3 of Tyranny, and it has been a little underwhelming thus far =/

Crap combat aside (and everyone has said this, nor do i come to games like this for the combat), the overall plot is fairly rote tbh.
The premise is great, but I don't feel enough is being done with it, when at large the story is of a civil war between 2 armies.

Yeah equip the item that reveals hidden things to find the right path
I managed to clear that area by memorizing the rght path :p

I guess tomorrow I should start playing all these games. Or I could complete the community center in Stardew Valley.

Tomorrow is probably when I'll decide whether to buy any other games besides Pony Island.
Blood Bowl2 and Transformers Fall of Cybertron are my top choices, but some other games may sway me. Unless GAF says those are both garbage (and can back it up).

It's like in every Square Enix bundle ever. I had it 3 times, haha. (Already gived the extras away though, sorry).
