Storage will be an issue if you want too go all digital. I won't. Since Nintendo games hold their value, and I replay few of them, I'll just buy he carts with Prime/GCU discount and easily sell for around what I paid for them (or more for some).
Digital I'll reserve for things like MK and Splatoon that I'll revisit a lot for years. Patches could be an issue I guess, but I"m used to uninstalling games after beating even on PS4 (had 2TB, now 1TB with the pro) and PC as I don't like having games I won't replay cluttering up things.

This is the only Mario kart you are getting for Switch. They will invest into other games. I'm sure Nintendo views Wii U as a "do over" and the Switch as their last stand as a console maker.
They will port as many Wii U games to Switch as possible and that make sense for the system. Those dev costs were high, and they most likely did not achieve "Nintendo like profits" on all of them.
Plus if Switch sells 40-60 million units, most of those people did not have a Wii U. So the game is not retread to those people.
I fully expect most Wii U games ported to the Switch. Just not all at once. Probably 5 to 6 a year over 4 years. They can be ported and given a remix or additional content far cheaper than making a new game from scratch.
It is also the only way Nintendo will avoid the "droughts" that plague every Nintendo system since N64.
The more games you sell, the more attractive the hardware to consumers and third party, hopefully it entices third parties to support Switch.

I guess it would be very dangerous for both the Switch and the hdd. Removing the switch would probably cause damage and then there is little point to use portable mode at all.
At best they might allow you to store data on somewhere and/or expect you to swap it on you sd card or something

Which is what I have done and decided I would prefer to listen to discussion based on fact and will not be viewing or listening much IGN content from this point forward.
I'm not seeing it. I'm more inclined to believe Nintendo is getting this out of the way to check the box on their "must have IP" to do list to take their time and really innovate on their next Mario Kart and Smash games. Like, Nintendo Kart in 4 years or something.

They could/should just allow hooking to an external HDD to move games back and forth between it and the internal storage. Just build in an easy to use data management app.
Having games only playable on the internal storage is fine if that was the case. Then people with slow internet, data caps etc. can at least have all their digital games at hand without having to wait on redownloads.

Its just a UI issue.
Most phone owners understand the difference - for a real world eample - between their music cloud library and their music on device library; you just have two windows, one is 'game bank' (or whatever) and one is 'device', and you can't play anything directly from 'the bank' without moving it from one window to the other first.

Well Yea. So far we've had a couple fake ones. Even those I ignored because I wouldn't want anything spoiling the event for me.
Well yeah, that seems like a bad scenario. I don't have any SD cards laying around and I'd rather not spend an exorbitant amount of money on storage. The fact that the other consoles' alternatives are so much cheaper would make me feel like that much more of a sucker.
I agree the way the PS4 handles storage is shit and needs to implement full external hdd support

Look at it this way
You gonna buy over 232GB of games within the first year?
Get enough capacity for now and upgrade later when microSD capacities go up and prices go down
512GB cards will hopefully be affordable in the next year or two
Plan ahead until then

That's not really mutually exclusive. Mario Kart infinite could still be a service and be the only pure Mario Kart game for Switch. While there's a Diddy Kong Racing or Smash Racing or whatever later with characters from multiple IPs, different vehicles etc.
Nintendo really needs to embrace the games as service approach for thinks like MK, Splatoon, Smash etc. though. That's the future of MP series, and there's tons of money to be made as you can sell the base game for years, and keep getting money from the base for cosmetic items, expansions etc.

I think that price will be quite an issue for the console.
I am expecting it to be U$ 290,00. I think that games will cost the same as Wii U game, something like U$ 60,00 and I hope that Wii U ports cost less, like U$ 40,00. And also, I really wish that the console allow to have multiple accounts from different regions. Like on my Wii U, I have a Brazilian account and a US one. The Brazilian to play online and the US to purchase stuff from eshop.

I am 100% convinced that the next "Switch is doomed" conversation will center around memory. Micro SD cards just aren't at an affordable price yet. However, they'll at least lower over time unlike the memory cards for Vita.
Wii U owner here and I feel terribly underwhelmed by the 1st party rumors. Having all the ports is great for the people that don't own a Wii U, but to me I can't justify double dipping (triple dipping in Smash's case) if the added content is the equivalent of $10 to $20 of DLC.
Mario Kart is the only one I'm excited for since it sounds like a huge amount of development went into it. Improved battle mode, new item switching, and the large amount of rumored characters and tracks would make it at least feel like an expansion pack level upgrade.
Other than that I just hope 3D Mario is the headlining launch game. Zelda is something I would get if I got a Switch, but I wouldn't get a Switch for Zelda with the Wii U version existing.

Given its a portable and that the 3DS already allows this, backing up data to a PC as bulk storage and playing the "clean the fridge" game with onboard + a single SD card should still be possible.
Obviously the ideal scenario is support for external USB storage on the dock and a built in file manager that lets you move things without the need for a "Now connect via USB to your PC" middleman stage.
In fact its such an obvious step, that if Nintendo do not provide that functionality themselves I feel fairly confident a third party will.

For storage couldn't they just do what Steam (and the Wii U/Wii I think) does and let you choose where you install games before you download them? Then they'd simply just lock all the games installed on the external hard drive connected to the dock when using the device in handheld mode.
Nintendo is already selling the base games for full price for years though. Getting people to buy their games and play them for a long time is not a Nintendo problem. They could expand those games with more DLC like they did with Mario Kart of course but why give up on $60 every few years if people are willing to spend them? I would want to see some service elements in there, don't get me wrong. A weekly changing mode would be fun and a serious eSports mode could do wonders.

Well if Mario is ready then it should be at launch. It would be better for them to delay Zelda or something else if they needed to fill gaps in the release schedule.
At this point, it's pretty much confirmed that the Switch will cost that much.

So excited for this week's presentation. The moment they start taking orders, I'm smashing that preorder button. Grew up with Nintendo, have yet to be let down by them.
I know, I even saved that money for the Switch, but since there's nothing officialy said about the price, I posted it just in case.
I don't think it had, thanks for posting. Looking like £199/$250/250 is a lock then.
That's a decent(not amazing) price point.

That's the best price it could have realistically been. I thought people were crazy thinking it could be $199 since 1) Nintendo wanted to make a profit day 1, and 2) the 3DS costs $199
They're reliable and it's what many of us figured from the beginning, so it's looking like that will be the price. Cool, I have a $250 gift card at best buy so that works out rather nicely

$250 is a great price. It's priced out of the handheld market so this will definitely be pushed as a new console in the US.
For existing Wii U owners an all new 3D Mario is a much better upgrade incentive than getting the chance to play Zelda a week or month early.
Also Super Mario Run got attention back on the franchise so I think it would be wise for them to lead with that to regain momentum.

System Setting #1: Warning: Do Not Remove Switch From Dock Until Copying Is Completed!
If player attempts to play a game while docked (from external hdd), then a check to see if the game is also available internally/micro sd card is performed. If failure, then the game will be copied.
System Setting #2: Warning: Do Not Remove Switch From Dock While Game Is Running!
The game does not need to also be stored internally/micro sd in order for user to play from external hdd while docked.

If it's £200 (which is doubtful, I'm betting on £220 or £230) then my plan is the console, three games, a pro controller and a decently sized SD card. I've budgeted £500 in total so that should hopefully cover it.
Yeah, I think $199 would have been really cheap for what this is.
The only concern is the fact that 3DS and Vita struggled at $250 but Switch provides more value(on paper at least).
