What are we playing basketball? Or did you mean drivel?

And if you don't like your job, you should get a different one. If you lack the talent or skill to do so, on you.

If what you do doesn't put food on the table, it's not good enough. End of story. It seems re-phrasing this isn't helping anybody, so this is my last comment on the topic. We don't live in a utopia or fairy tale world where everything is fair, nor a meritocracy.

Wait what about our contract? Are you still interested?

I... don't think you know what "evidence" is. Cause this is called evidence.

What you're demanding is iron-clad "proof".

Right, were I a lawyer presenting my case in court, and had no actual evidence of the current crime, but just said "he did it before", then the jury would find in my favor, right? Nope.

I....don't think you know what evidence is.

The lack of empathy in your words is chilling. Like, damn.

In quality or quantity? Because the 'quality' aspect is still up in the air... for both lists.

Definitely. I thought list wars were about who gets the most entries, I don't really participate in this kind of mud slinging tbh.

I hope the quality is there for MS. Everything they've released so far aside of Forza has been disappointing to me tbh. I'm looking at Gears 4 and wonder why it exists. I'd say the same thing about Uncharted 4 but that game improved its writing and characters significantly since the trilogy, so at least there's that to it.

Translation: I couldn't resist getting in a parting shot about how Platinum lack the talent and skill to put food on their tables, but I am leaving before I am banned.

What are they gonna do? Say that they cancelled one game without letting people know they have more coming?

"yeah, guys, we cancelled one game, sell your console, no more exclusive games are coming!"

Well, that would be the truth, since there's no more "Xbox ONE exclusive". Every new XB1 game will also be on PC, right?

Even if every game on the lists are terrible it's still a clear winner in that list battle. Even if all the Xbox games are 10s and all the ps are 6s it's still a clear winner. Most pointless list warz I've seen in some time. Somebody add in those small Xbox games ppl keep bringing up. Start the second battle! Lol

Also obligatory list warz...list warz never changes.

Ot: I'm sad platinum has a canceled game. I've thought about getting an Xbox if it had 5 exclusives I wanted to play. This leaves it at 2. Hopefully e3 shows me something.

Thanks for the typo correction. Very helpful (I'm on a iPhone. Typing sucks of these things).

But that is ridiculous Trump logic right there. "If you get sexually harassed, get a different career", he says. I can't believe anyone at Platinum games "lacks the talent to skill". Their catalog is better than 90% of the industry's.

Nobody is living in a fairy tale but you if you think a company can just "find a better contract" whenever they wish or that calculated risk or unbalanced work is the STANDARD for game development, not the exception.

No, but as a consumer, I am ;)
Sure, i was trying to say that list wars is not welcome on this forum if i remember correctly.

Dude, chill and stop this discussion before it's too late.

And you should stop treating people with ban since you're not a mod.

I think cancelling Scalebound is mostly about that... there's this aura of "if the game doesn't reach 80 on Metacritic..." around Scalebound that's typical of a Publisher with a lot of external pressure.

Gears of War 4 didn't exactly set the charts on fire, but it also didn't resonate with a lot of the core audience. They didn't show up for that title. Microsoft is probably wondering why, and that's a ripple effect that might affect more titles in the future.

Let's just hope that 2017 is good for gamers ; who cares about which console has the most games -- it's about what games are good.

Spoken like someone who aint ever live a day in the real world. Your idealism is cute but it's also really fucking short sighted and you should really think before you say stupid shit like this.

at the end it is a very sad situation... a lot of blaming is going on in this thread but I am more concern about the people that just lost this project... hoping everything work out at the end..

Having been to court, we have things called "character witnesses". Yes, child, your past can come back to haunt you. A history of violence, for example, can and will be used against a parent in a custody battle, for example, and for good reason.

Your history can and does factor in as evidence, often.

Yeah, 10 years ago.

That was a different Nintendo.
They weren't known for buying studios even before then. Just to remind folks, HAL and Intelligent Systems are still third party to this day, despite the massive hand they've had on several games that originated from within Nintendo.

So, your "evidence" is this having happened in the past? No actual evidence? Got it.
Weak evidence is still evidence. You never asked for proof, which none of us have; you asked for an iota of evidence. This is more than a iota. It's also more than you have provided, which is zero. Again, where's your evidence?

And I never said anything happened one way or the other. We don't know.

Holy shit the nerve! Not only do you 180 and rewrite history on your original blanket accusation that PG was at fault, you steal my own fucking point:
Unfortunately, it's unlikely we will ever know.

If it was a contract issue, either PG signed a bad one, or PG can sue MS for breach of contract.

The point is that you're the only one saying it was a contract issue. Contracts don't determine deadlines, which is the entire point of contention. Also I want to live in the fantasy world of yours where a small studio like Platinum can afford to sue Microsoft of all companies.

Honestly although I bought the Xbox One S mostly for 4K UHD this still bums me out a lot as it was one of the games on my radar after realizing this thing plays games too.

So I get oblique ban threats (and outright from other members) for discussing something at least somewhat germane to the topic; I'm interested to see how this is treated.

Also, it'd be pragmatism, but what's one ism to another?

Terrible news.

Bet Andrew House is on the phone to Kamiya - another Kojima situation where Playstation can benefit from good PR and an exclusive from Platinum.

Hopefully Sony comes in and gives the studio a boost.

Well. Nintendo bought into Rare in 1994. They bought into Monolithsoft in 2007. Maybe they buy a studio once every decade!

Retro doesn't really count, since they co-funded the founding of it to begin with.

That monolith purchase felt like it had a lot to do with their relationship with namco.

Buying platinum would feel like a more personal save than a strategic business decision.

I just can't imagine Nintendo would even float the idea of purchasing platinum unless the talent signed an agreement to stay. With the shakeup there, I wonder how it will play out.

Sure. I'm just wondering whether getting an Xbox was worth it and after everything they announced and cancelled I'm hesitant in investing in anything Xbox. Any interest in getting Scorpio on day one flew out the window and looking at the lineups I don't feel like I'll be spending a lot of my video game time on Xbox this year.

Let's hope Sea of Thieves is fun and charming. That's the feel-good game Xbox needs. Not another mediocre Halo or Gears.

Now that Scalebound is dead and they don't have any more Activision games, Platinum being sold to Nintendo is a real possibility.

I'm going to be honest, this has had an effect on me buying NieR: Automata at launch. The demo was fantastic so I was going to buy it at some point but I don't really need new games, for a while so I was just going to wait a while.

It's looking very likely that I'm going to pre-order this now, partly because it's probably going to be fantastic and partly because "There you go, have some money".

Halo 5 was divisive but Gears 4 was far from mediocre.

So close to comprehension, and yet so far.

Your perspective on what it means to work for a living is cold and inhuman. I am ashamed on your behalf.

I never said PG was at fault - I said if there is a bad contract, and MS did not breach that contract, PG is at fault.

Go back to my very first post on this topic "baseless speculation" - which is all any of this is at this point, and likely will be. Some nerve, eh?

No wonder why this thread is so big, there's like a dozen different conversation going on.

Sad news about scalebound, but if they couldn't salvage the game at all, it's better dead.

No it's still idealism. The practice of forming unrealistic ideas. Which you have.

Also past history totally sways verdicts all the time. Your an adult surely you know this.

I don't really see it that way. I see the Monolithsoft purchase as Nintendo identifying value in bringing a developer familiar with larger scale console RPGs that their other studios aren't familiar with, to bring diversity to their content. That is exactly what the studio has done since.

Of course none of this means anything today with different management and very different market conditions. But I definitely don't agree that they bought Monolithsoft as a "favor" to Namco. That seems like a real stretch.

More food for thought:

You know, I'm all in for dubio pro reo, but all this is just pileing up to the mountain of evidence that Microsoft is a terrible business partner.

Trust me ; I'm in the same boat. I just bought an Xbox One myself. I still have a lot of games to catch up, but I didn't like that news either... I'm right there with you, wondering "Well... what am I looking forward to, exactly?"

However, I know corporate structures, and I can kind of understand that Microsoft is trying to really bad to change an image that was originally "We have money to burn, this round is on me!" to "Oh, shit, Mother and Father are cutting our weekly allowances until we get good grades!"...

They've also had the best selling console 3 months in a row last year with barely any exclusives showing up on the top 10 of NPD ; although it's quite the spin, maybe it just means that first-party titles from Microsoft just don't sell consoles anymore...

Because what you're saying is god damn ridiculous. The world does not function in a way where "oh I can just get a new job whenever I want, whenever I want".

"Oh if I cant get a new job then I simply lack talent"

This is infact idealistic and stupid. There are so many factors and dimensions that make your simplification invalid. But because you wanna be a badass and show zero empathy you areacting like it's a straight edge issue. Bruh nl it aint. Stop crying for bans, defend your position wth some facts.

No it's still idealism. The practice of forming unrealistic ideas. Which you have.

Also past history totally sways verdicts all the time. Your an adult surely you know this.

Sways, sure. So if there was a quote from PG saying MS moved goalposts, different builds being shown, etc. AND a past history of doing this, that would be something credible. Just saying "they did it before that happened here" doesn't cut it for me.

Past instances of similar occurrences don't mean it happened here. I'm sure PG signed a broad and unfavorable contract, and either MS made it impossible to fulfill using the contract, or they just flat out cancelled it if it wasn't meeting their expectations.

I never said PG was at fault - I said if there is a bad contract, and MS did not breach that contract, PG is at fault.

Go back to my very first post on this topic "baseless speculation" - which is all any of this is at this point, and likely will be. Some nerve, eh?

You mean your post where you said it was all baseless speculation, then you assumed Platinum signed a contract with perfectly defined deadlines?

I'm still waiting for your iota of evidence, by the way.

That depends. Are the terms more or less favorable than the PG Scalebound contract?

I'm already employed under one bad contract - can't afford another!

He means the contract where you give him 500$ and your account doesn't get banned. Better make up your mind fast, the clock is ticking!

So I get oblique ban threats

It's not a threat, it's a contract. Nobody can force you into a bad contract unless you want to!

Where did I say they signed a contract with strict deadlines? Once again, something I didn't say.

Exclusives aren't major hardware movers for either of the manufacturers at the moment. I still think they're important, though.

Excuse me, there's no ban threat. I'm merely offering you a contract, you can choose to agree to it like an adult, no one can be forced into a bad contract. I don't understand why you are trying to pretend to be a victim here. If you find yourself in a bad situation, it's your fault because you could have made a better argument instead or brought up an example that didn't lead you to this point. That's life. Right?

Ah. Kamiya lacks enough talent to continue making videogames and be able to feed himself through an adequate wage. Of course. Also sleeping in a sleeping bag in a meeting room to get more work in on an entertainment product is not "liking your job" enough.

Are you hoping the Shadow Masters are reading this drivel and won't come for you and yours when the Time Of Sacrifice arrives? That's the only reason I can imagine you'd be alright sharing such an alarming lack of empathy.

When you can feel the duckroll grin through the heat of the screen.

It's obviously to help a studio in need.

It's fucking terrible in the sense that the man had to go on leave for his mental health.

Nier Automata looks great but is definitely niche and I'm hoping Sony goes in and strikes a deal for another title to give the studio a morale boost and keep them ticking over.

New IP again would be nice.
