Who will buy Zelda BOTW WiiU ?

What system are you buying Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for?

I really considered selling my Wii U for a Switch. It would be like a $100 upgrade, which is nothing. But the Switch doesn't have many games I'd be interested in right away. And I can play the big headliner Zelda on my Wii U. Plus, I still have lots of Wii U titles I haven't finished, like Captain Turd's Treasure Tracker or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. If I got rid of my Wii U, I'd never be able to play or finish them.

I don't see used Wii Us dropping in price, either, frankly, because of the above. People can't play these outstanding games without one. That, coupled with the limited hardware out there, tips it to Zelda Wii U for me.

WiiU here too, and I have a switch console preorder that i'm likely gonna cancel unless the WiiU version turns out to be way worse than the switch zelda

Depends on how well it runs compared to the Switch version. Also depends if I have a switch at the time, still debating on pre-ordering a unit.

If you buy the Wii U version will you get the Switch version free? (like how PlayStation has Cross-Buy for many games)

Hmm, this would actually be such a brilliant idea. So it won't happen. But damn, cross-buy would be a very strong incentive in getting a Switch as a Wii U owner.

It will be Wii U for me as well. Switch would be nice but after all the dust settled from the good and bad news this week I doubt I'll be getting one anytime soon (plus I want to get PSVR first anyway and thus no way I could get a switch quickly too). I have no problem with it too, Wii U version looks great so it's all good for me. Portable zelda would've been nice but I'm fine playing on the Wii U.

I'm getting it on Switch because a) I'll be transitioning there this year anyway, even if Spring looks like it'll be slow, b) I sort of just want to be there day one with a console even if it's a bit silly--haven't done that ever really, c) there isn't much holding me back on Wii U still; I've completed most of my collection for that system.

But yeah, I considered just doing it on Wii U after the conference and getting Switch for Mario during the holiday instead.

24 hours later, I am cancelling my Switch pre-order and just getting Zelda on Wii U instead. Knew it was impulsive to pre-order when GAF posted links and sleeping on my decision certainly made me realize how little I need or want a Switch at launch.

Was going to get the switch ver but the online paid service bs has unsold me on the idea so probably sticking to WiiU ver for now.

I ended up feeling the opposite lol, wanted to hold off on getting it and stick with my Wii U Version, but then I'm like... Eh, might as well go all for BoTW seeing as how I've been waiting forever for it. May as well play the best version of it, along with it being portable. Not to mention I'm going to end up buying the Switch anyhow, may as well do it now while I have it pre-ordered.

The likely drought I'll experience concerning Switch-exclusive games afterwards will be remedied by me just buying more PS4 games to pass the time lol

Considering how many of us here are saying we're buying the WU version instead, I'm guessing you're wrong, or maybe there won't be enough copies lol

I wasn't around GAF at the time, but was there much thirst for the GCN version of Twilight Princess? And if there was, was it only because people couldn't buy a Wii?

It was no different a decade ago on GAF. Plenty of arguments over which is the superior version(I preferred widescreen and pointer aiming far more myself on Wii), but the discussion raged on due to the unique variations in each version.

It's a bit less interesting now. The two versions of BotW are nigh indistinguishable and have feature parity. The Wii also had a diverse launch catalogue aside from Zelda, which gave that system a stronger identity. It felt like the entire forum bought a Wii(or were struggling to find one for months), much different with the Switch today.

Most of the TP GC supporters did seem to carry a stark anti-motion agenda, aimed largely at its use in TP. It didn't quite feel like a war on Wii, but a war on sword waggle in particular. Here, no one seems to want a Switch only for Zelda.

I'm most likely going with the wiiU one. No reasons for me to get a switch at launch window save zelda with that price for the console itself for now.

So I'm weak and I've decided on getting a Switch and Zelda at launch like I had originally planned.

My reasons? One; I've realized just how big a game BotW is to me and, like The Last Guardian, I know I'd feel some regret not playing the "best" version out there. Two; I can sell my Mini NES (which I have used a total of 0 times since the week after launch) and OG PS4 (which I would have sold already but no warranty sticker due to fan cleaning) to get at the very least £150 off the asking price. Three; I'm going to buy one eventually anyway, might as well get it now when I know I can take the financial brunt.

I'm not going to settle for a compromised version of maybe the greatest Nintendo game of all time, or at least my most anticipated. Fuck my Wii U I'm getting the Switch day one just for this.

You do realise that the Switch version is also a compromised version, right?

In what way? I'm talking frame-rate and visuals btw, I'm going to be playing "Off-TV" and the improved screen alone makes this more compelling. I wouldn't want to play this on the shitty Wii U screen.

I'm getting it on the Switch but I'm might buy the Wii U version because it might become hard to get like Twilight Princess for GameCube.

So you want to play it in a comprised way at 720p instead of 900p on the tv

For my specific use-case its the best way to play. Some would say being tethered to the TV is a compromise compared to being able to play wherever, be it on the go or in bed, on what looks to be a real good screen to boot that is vibrant and has great viewing angles.

I bought a Wii U in Christmas 2014 with the expectation that Zelda was coming in a few months. No way am I buying another Nintendo console for the same game.

This is pretty much where I am too.

Wii U first.

Nintendo launches have been horrible for me. The price and sold out preorders is not a pleasant outline.

By far the most likely scenario for me at the moment is picking Zelda: BotW up for my Wii U. I just don't see enough reasons to be optimistic about the Switch for me just yet. If I didn't have the previous console? There'd be no question. If I found value in portable gaming systems? I think I'd also be excited.

As it is, I'm just too tentative to commit to Switch.

Weren't some people earlier in the thread mentioning Off Tv was removed?

Edit: sorry I misread your post

If the Wii U version is identical aside from being 720p then there's zero reason to really get a Switch at launch. Unless the frame rate is dreadful in comparison of course...

I'm getting a Switch with Zelda, but I'm still buying it on Wii U. It'll probably be the last major game on the system.

Eiji Aonuma said this to IGN.
"I think I mentioned this during E3, but the gameplay is completely the same experience on Wii U and the Nintendo Switch," Aonuma told IGN. "The game controls for the two are pretty much identical. However, when you play in TV mode, the resolution of the screen and the sound quality go up."

...

"When I said earlier that the gameplay and game experience is the same, I meant the framerate is the same as well," Aonuma said.

Who knows how much of this is actually true, though. I'll probably double-dip whenever it is I actually buy a Switch, but I'm all aboard for the Wii U version at launch, too...

wish I could've gotten a special Edition of the game still, even if I won't have the console at that time

I will probably pick up the Wii U version at some point for my Zelda collection's sake, and for my Wii U shelf.

Not rushing out to buy it, though, and I'll be shocked if I ever play it.

I am.
Pre-ordered in 2014 for a mere $45 CAD.
If I were to get it on the switch I'd be looking at $550 which is way too much for a single game.

And there's Cemu if I want to play at 1080p/4k

The Wii U version is 45-50 euro in several places compared to 70 euro for the Switch, so that's an aditional incentive.
