Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Waypoints and markers and more waypoints and markers ugh.

I hope the combat at least makes up for the typical open world design I'm seeing here.

W3 is considered the new standard open world game judged by Gaf here and it has waypoints and markers :)

This is one complaint I don't get. This is the standard in all open world games. It just makes navigation easier

OK I don't think I'm gonna buy it, such a beautiful looking game, maybe the best I've seen, is gonna be ruined by awful writing, voice acting and lip syncing animation, not sure about the gameplay and quests quality as well, shame :/

It doesn't have 'awful' writing. Voice acting ranges from good to bad (main character has been consistently good) and lip syncing animation is better than any other RPG.

You haven't played an actual RPG, have you?

I'm still not all that hyped, but tot the Ubisoft complaint it's not like most open world games don't do similar things. I'm more worried because GG doesn't really have a good track record.
Yes they do. Killzone 2 is one of the highest rated shooters ever, and 3 was a tittle that was scored in the high 80s. They slipped a little with Shadowfalls, but why do people constantly keep making this same remark? It's weird. They make solid games.

I went into these videos thinking 'Gamelay is brilliant' and came out of them thinking 'Gorilla can't write or direct'. That's the worse acting and the worse writing I've seen in a very long time. A good place to start would be to match the voice with the character models. Then when you've done that learn what facial expressions go with what emotions.

That's good to hear, because from the trailers and gameplay they've released thus far, the story was looking like the most iffy part to me.
The initial premise of the story seems like a good setup. Aloy is special kid with unknown origin. Something happened one day to the tribe and the elder now told Aloy/give permission for Aloy to leave the tribe and look for answer.

Along the way you'll visit various tribe and will probably get hints/clues to get you closer to the answer, you'll also meet various npc that will probably help or hinder your journey.

That seems like a very solid premise for a story. What's so bad about those.

Jesus, people are so overdramatic about the animations. Life is Strange had horrible lip sync issues and it still one of the best games I've played. Just enjoy playing the game guys.

I'm gonna stop you there, you can't claim that no RPG has better lip-syncing than this. That would be horrible if that's the case because the lip syncing here looks bugged.

And blood trails and hunts and collectables and wait a minute.

So what are you expecting from open world RPG ?

Most look empty and boring, even Zelda has 5 enemies pop up every few miles from all vids I have seen, what exactly are we expecting here ?

I have yet to see a screenshot full of life in a console open world RPG.

Show me an example !

Only reason i've kept my paperweight4. First video has me way more sold than I was last year, but I think I'm going to avoid watching the second one now...

So of the three characters in the 33 minute trailer, Brom, Varl, and Cren, 2 out of 3 sounds great. Honestly thought I would come here and not see almost a youtube-like comment reaction. I'm sure the main quest and storyline characters will all be of Varl, & Cren caliber, if there's hundreds of hours of dialog, I'm sure it'll take forever to manually animate everything so each one looks incredible.

Anyway, hope the game turns out amazing. Combat looks quite good, and I like that the pinwheel dialog options are basically letting you go as deep as you want into the lore.

How does this have so many dislikes? like/dislike ratio is super bad, but I can't see what's so bad about the preview or the game in there.

Because it's a preview, not a review.

After watching a little bit ...

I didn't know the people are actually part robot like the animals in the previous videos. So it kind of spoils it a lil for me knowing that we are not 100% human and just part of an evolution from whatever the ancestors created. i then can assume we will meet 100% humans that fear the non 100% human due to whatever history lessons they had.

It just looked a little, I don't know, almost hokey to me. But if people who have played it say it has a good story, then that sounds good to me, because my impression was based off very little information.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the video is called "Review" instead of "Preview."
